Gypsy Wedding Ceremony in Wakefield - Coral Anne and Hicky 4K

  • The bride and groom take a while to get to the church, but their guests are mainly all on time, having made a huge effort to dress up, beautifully. The service seems long for all the children - and adults too, so there is quite a bit of restlessness amongst the congregation, and once the service is over, Coral-Anne and Hicky race out of the church at top speed! After that their next stop is to visit the cemetery where Hicky's brother lies buried in a an ornate tomb, so that they can have posed family photos by the gravestones, including those of other family members. Their wedding reception follows that but I'm still editing it.

      It always confuses me that the gypsy females dress so immodestly showing so much flesh and yet they have such strict family rules regarding their virtue .. no pre - marital sex . I've seen other videos too of their weddings with the guests and bridesmaids in church with barely anything on and their boobs and bums almost uncovered , which I find totally disrespectful to God and the sanctity of the marriage ceremony . I just find it very contradictory .

      Aw, I understand. It's hard to sit through a whole church service, when you are not used to formal occasions and haven't been taught the expected social conventions, though. Fortunately, this is the couple's regular church, so the celebrants were not only used to them, but also looking forward to seeing them getting married: a little tolerance goes a long way.

      Not really, as everyone deserves to have a Christian wedding, if indeed that is what they feel is right for them and their faith. Just because they are unruly, doesn't mean to say they cannot be accepted inside a church.

      Thank you, Maria. I understand what you mean, but travellers simply haven't learned to follow the same rules of society as everyone else, so in general, this is normal behaviour at traveller weddings. If you haven't learned to behave in a certain way, then it's not going to come naturally, is it.. Fortunately, this is the bride's regular church, so the church leaders there know their families and are happy to welcome them into their flock. They were quite excited actually to see them married, so not at all judgmental.

      @@ReelLifePhotos This is an explanation I can understand. I see lavishly dressed people and a very charming couple, but although I myself never cared about rituals, tradition or religion I really feel sorry for someone who prepared themselves and try their best to give a caring, thoughtful, special speech to people on their most important day of their lives.
      Do you think that respectless conduct may be due to the lack of formal education? Or could it even be a lack of respect for any person out of their own community?
      I want to understand what is happening here.
      I'm not British, I am an Austrian historian. I know about European Roma and Sinti and have studied their history (which is very tragic, especially in Austria and Germany during WWII.)
      I still struggle to understand the Irish and English Travellers culture, which obviously is very different from the Romani and Sinti culture (and genetics).
      I watched some of your superb edited videos, your respectful and really tasteful way of documenting those events, but I still struggle with the behaviour of some Traveller people and am left to wonder: Are they taught to disrespect any non-traveller authority? (But why would they make the effort to book a church ceremony?), or did they just never learn to LISTEN TO AND PAY ATTENTION, because all of them have never been schooled?

    • @ReelLifePhotos
      @ReelLifePhotos  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Unfortunately, traveller children have not been taught the same rules or conventions, Susan, as the rest of society in general. Fortunately, though, this was the couple's regular church, where they were much loved and tolerated for their differences. Yes, it's hard to see when we do things differently and have certain expectations of behaviour, but essentially, it's not their fault, as they don't know any differently.

      Now, that is an excellent point, Michelle. I can't say for certain, but I guess that weddings are more of a wonan's thing. They also sit separately at wedding receptions anyway. Some of the men just go to the reception, instead, as they only enjoy the drinking a socialising part!

    Stunning gown. It’s a shame how rude people are….congregation talked loudly during the ceremony, people walking around and the bride and groom look bored. If I had been one of those ministers, I would have told the crowd to shut up 😡. The bride putting her hand on her hip when the minister was blessing the Union was appalling. Why did the bride keep looking up??

    • @ReelLifePhotos
      @ReelLifePhotos  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @Eudi2020 Hi there Eudi! I can't really answer your question for sure - about the bride looking up - but am guessing it's just her sunny personality, so a natural reflex action when smiling. As for the way the wedding guests were behaving inside the church, it wasn't a problem for any of the clergy, as this is the couple's regular church, so they were all well known. If you notice, they were actually looking forward to this wedding and said so as such, so no-one was offended. Travellers have their own ways of doing things. They don't mean to be disrespectful, but simply haven't ever learned to follow those particular social conventions. It requires a lot of self-discipline to stay seated quietly for over an hour anyway, doesn't it!

      Gyspy life is an extremely patriarchal society. Women are literally tied to the home and eternally pregnant. It's only recently that children sometimes attend school - they live their lives travelling in caravans so they are never anywhere long enough for a school attendance. They are known for spending tens of thousands of pounds on weddings etc but, as this illustrates - they have lots of money, but no class or good taste.

  • @2bluehorizons4
    @2bluehorizons4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    @ReelLifePhotos I wish you would stop making excuses for the Gypsies/Travellers' bad behaviour. They spend enough time with ordinary people or watching them on television to know how to behave. If they don't naturally feel a sense of awe and quiet and stillness in a House of God then they are not ready to be there. There are plenty of other places where they could hold a wedding. They obviously have no feeling for the solemnity and seriousness of what they are witnessing. I wonder if the vicar spoke with them beforehand and reminded them to be respectful of their surroundings and the occasion? Perhaps the smallest children should have been kept out of the church? This is not uncommon at Christian weddings. It makes me cringe the way you say self-discipline is not something they have been taught and sitting still and listening is hard! What an absolute nonsense! They choose to be different and behave the way they do and must pay the price for that. 'All are welcome in the fold' does not mean that anyone and everyone can run roughshod over Christian traditions and church property. It means if you are willing to become a Christian and respect the ways of Christians then you will be welcomed into the fold(regardless of background). At any wedding, most of the congregation will just be visitors/guests and should behave as any guest would in someone else's house. Do you think any other religion would tolerate their nonsense? Gypsies see Christians as a soft touch and simply want to use their beautiful buildings as a backdrop.

      @2bluehorizons4 Wow! That's quite a tirade! I do agree with you in many respects, but I will continue to support Travellers as they are who they are.
