Gypsy Church Wedding in Leeds

  • This was an unusual traveller wedding, in that they chose not to have a reception in a venue, but rather to go all out on decorating the church, so that their wedding photos and video looked good. They simple went to a carvery to feed the family and any guests who chose to accompany them there. Watch their whole wedding though!

      Hi PattiAnne, As a woman myself, who hasn't worn any makeup at alll since I was 19, I also feel that very few people actually need to wear makeup. However, this style is extremely popular at traveller weddings, and almost a forgone fact at Muslim weddings too, so we can hardly deny a bride her chosen look on her wedding day, can we?

      Do couples ever spend time together on their wedding days? I have been photographing weddings professionally for 23 years, and can honestly say that, apart from Muslim weddings where they sit on a stage together to be endlessly photographed and videoed woth all their respective families and friends, its actually really hard ti naturally capture a bride and groom together without requesting their joint appearance away from the guests!

      I hope that wasn't directed at me, but rather at those who constantly feel superior to Travellers? Sadly,, too many people are quick to criticise Travellers - for their differences - rather that to embrace them for the very best parts of their culture. Everyone is happy to be entertained, but very few stop to think that these are real people with feelings, that they are laughing at! So I agree with you Christine, that it's not nice to do this.

      Not at all, Nick. Travellers rarely act the same as you would expect from your own experiences. They rarely have a chance to be alone together prior to their marriage, so they are always a little shy together on their wedding day. The bride is like that normally anyway, but was also a little stressed, as expected.

      @ReelLifePhotos  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's a very good question. Why does anyone ever wear makeup at all? I think the answer to your question is fashion, where everyone in a certain group or subgroup copies what everyone else is doing. It then becomes the norm for that particular group of people. I personally never wear makeup, not even on my own wedding day, but travellers and almost all my Muslim brides, absolutely adore this style of makeup, so it's their chosen way of presenting themselves to the world.

      Hi Debra. You sure have an expressive way of saying things. I really had to laugh at that! I also am not a fan of fake eyelashes, but brides always seem to love them. They go through a lot of trouble getting them attached, so are quite brave, really, False eyelashes make it hard for me, as a photographer too, as even the slightest eye movement causes the eye to be partially - or completely - obscured. However, I am unlikely to be able to change this very popular fashion

      @ReelLifePhotos  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Now, that's interesting that you even watched them at the carvery too. I think the bride has a certain personality that isn't given much to smiling at all. Travellers rarely have a kiss at the ceremony, though, but I'm sure they'll have made up for it later when alone together.

      Thats a very good question! I didn't notice that too much during the filming, as I was also taking photos, but they were most likely not too comfortable, being stared at by everyone. Travellers don't udually get any time alone together before getting married, so they generally don't initially have the same bonds as other couples at this stage, but they develop them soon afterwards. They also almost never have the usual public kiss, after being pronounced man and wife, as don't like public displays of intimacy.

      Well, Loulou, the church officiants were kind enough to make the bride and her family happy, as instead of decorating a reception venue, they chose to decorate the church. The close family went for a simple carvery meal afterwards, which, as it was open to the general public, would not have been suitable for their wedding photos. This was created with love, and it made them happy to pose inside the church for their family group photos. If you were the one getting married, you might choose to do things differently, but they chose to be uniquely creative, so what's not to like about that?

      The bride is just that kind of person, so not depressed at all, but super aware of her image. I'm glad you at least found one part where she smiled, though! Travellers don't tend to show public displays of romantic gestures, and have usually had very little time alone together prior to their wedding. As for the hair, the styles are created by talented hairdressers who have plenty of experience of this style, and yes of course they build up the hair with extensions, and often insert a central core, around which the build the added layers. It's a real art! Most of my Muslim clients also style their hair in a similar manner, except that they then cover it loosely with a veil, rather than leaving it all on show.

    • @ReelLifePhotos

      Yes, of course they can look at each other, but in general, travellers haven't had time to build that kind of relationship before getting married. They would not have been allowed to be alone together beforehand, you see. If they do attempt to run away together to be alone, they are then expected to marry. Travellers have a very strict moral code regarding relationships.
      It's also a tradition for the guys to sit separately from the girls at the reception, and more females than males attend anyway. I think she was looking at her social media, rather than emails, though, and traveller girls do tend to upload loads of pics of themselves so she would have also wanted to see ones others had posted of her too.

However, we can't all be smiley people - as much as I prefer to photograph or video that kind of bride - can we? In any case, traveller weddings are different, in that the couples concerned have had very little time alone before their marriage - if at all - in order to prevent "temptations". • @ReelLifePhotos
      @ReelLifePhotos  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @RosemaryHart-mg6kt Hi Rosemary, Thank you for your sweet and sensitively worded comment. Yes, she was wearing very heavy makeup, which is obviously not a natural look, but Travellers really go for this particular style. They almost always choose a makeup artist who specialises in this art. If you've ever been to a Muslim wedding, you'll spot the similarities as they, too, wear the heavy foundation and over emphasised eyebrows. Similarly, the hairstyles follow this same "fashion". Really and truly, very few young ladies actually "need" to wear makeup at all, but it's a multi-million pound /dollar industry, which is unlikely to change, so as most people follow what others in their cultural group do, this look is followed by by this bride too.

Sorry, but if you have to hold your boobs in the dress, you shouldn't be wearing that dress! The bride is beautiful, but she looked absolutely miserable. I could only watch to 26 minutes mark! Weddings should be joyful and they didn't even look at each other when saying the vows. Best of luck, y'all.

      Had to laugh at your description of the pulling up and pulling down! However, travellers are very strict about their relationships, so however "daring" their clothes appear to be, they believe in marriage first, so let them at least have a bit of fun with their creative outfits!

    Why is the groom standing with his hands in his pockets?? She is beautiful but looks totally fake.

    • @ReelLifePhotos
      @ReelLifePhotos  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, anyone altering their natural appearance is fake, really, but we all do it to a lesser of greater degree. Some of us paint our nails, or colour our hair, our dab on a bit of makeup daily, weekly, or just on the odd occasion.
      Others take it even further and apply fake tan, use Botox, or have cosmetic surgery, but that's the world we live in! We follow fashion, and that's exactly what this bride is doing, as this is bridal fashion in her culture. All these body modifications are an individual's choice. There's also a lot of image consciousness in this world, with a lot of people falling for the pressure of looking differently to how they've been born, plus a lot of insecurity. She will find her own way. xx

    • @ReelLifePhotos
      @ReelLifePhotos  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I quite like the way you expressed this, but it's how they like it, and just the way they are. The hands in pockets thing is just because that is what they are used to, and no-one has taught them any differently, so it doesn't bother me at all. The big eyelashes are much loved by many brides top, but yes, they do make it difficult to actually see the eyes, themselves!!

      Good question. Reminded me of a Barbie doll.

    • @ReelLifePhotos
      @ReelLifePhotos  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good question, Donna. Obviously, the clothes traveller women wear at weddings, like anyone else, are not what they usually wear every day. However, they all love to look tanned, and with British weather being what it is, spray tan is their solution. ( it's safer than sessions on a sunbed) . Many other cultures want to look white, and wear very pale makeup (Pakistanis & Chinese, for example) so we are never happy with how we are, unfortunately! The bride was very aware of her looks, so probably had that in mind. She is also not a smiley sort of person, as far as I know.

    • @ReelLifePhotos
      @ReelLifePhotos  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The hairstyles that they love, require hair spray to keep them in place. It's a very popular fashion for gypsy and Muslim brides. I see it at almost all of those kinds of weddings. The same applies to the makeup style.

    • @ReelLifePhotos
      @ReelLifePhotos  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      As for them not looking at each other, travellers don't have a chance to be alone together prior to their marriage, so it's embarrassing for them to show emotion in front of a crowd of people and they rarely ever do a first kiss in church. I hope these answers help you?

    • @pamcollins1651
