I totally agree with you. I don't understand the aversion to marketing a movie for what it is either. Maybe they're worried that people who don't care for musicals will not see the movie. That said, with the amount of music in the trailer, it's blatantly obvious this is a musical. Also, the vast majority of people know that the film is an adaptation of a Broadway musical, so what the hell? A weird trend, indeed.
I highly recommend reacting to the Saban's Power Rangers Movie from 2017. staring Dacre Montgomery who played Billy in stranger things, Naomi Scott who played Jasmine in the live-action Aladdin movie, Bryan Cranston who played Walter White in Breaking Bad, and Elisabeth Banks who played Effie Trinket in The Hunger Games.
I personally don't want to see any of the singing until I'm seated in the theater. They've already shown us the bulk of the plot beats, I need to be surprised by something lol
Ehh you’d be surprised with prior musical films that despite their popularity, people didn’t know the movie was a musical. Wonka recently had that issue
@@ChatalbashReviews Oh this has nothing to do with the Wizard of Oz being a musical film. Wicked is literally based on a Broadway musical that is now the 4th longest running show of all time, celebrating it's 20th anniversary last October. And is still one of Broadway's top grossers with no signs of slowing down. 2 extremely successful National Tours, one running from 2005-2015, the other which started its run in 2009 and is still running. Add to that, successful sit-down productions in Chicago, LA, and San Fran... and all that just covers the US. The West End Production has been running strong since 2006. And multiple other international tours and sit-down productions. This is not Wonka. There is no musical of Wonka's back story that they turned into a film. Wicked's source material is Wicked the Musical itself which you'd have to live under a rock to not have heard about at this point.
I understand and agree with what you’re saying but this is more so about Hollywood refusing to show musicals being musicals in trailers leading up to release. Obviously Wicked is widely known and beloved but it just seems strange not showing the talent singing. The trailer still works, but it I wish this trailer trend with musicals would stop, just silly!
@@ChatalbashReviews i don't understand the why it's such a huge issue. it's still a musical. people know it's a musical. it's the first trailer and there's more soon. let's start complaining if the movie is out in a month and they still haven't claimed that it is in fact a musical.

Arianas delivery in the movie is very similar to Kristin’s delivery of Galinda in the actual musical… its supposed to be that way
That’s what I’m getting a sense of from what I’ve heard so I’ll hold out full judgment until I see it!
I think they might be "saving" a peek at the singing/musical numbers,
for closer to the movie's opening in November.
I have that hunch too…we’ll see!

Wicked isn't a musical, it's a novel. * cackles like Margaret Hamilton *

That’s fair, can definitely tell they’re holding that back as a sort of surprise for audiences, but still a little frustrating lol
Wicked is one of those you don't have to announce it's a musical. Everyone knows.
