Is there any correlation between tongue ties and vocal nodules?
Yes!!! Although, there is not any published research on it. I have had a few singers and musicians who had unilateral (one sided) nodules and who’s tongue ties we’re also unilateral on that same side! One client had chronic nodules in the same area until her release. Of course, not all vocal nodules are directly correlated to tongue ties, but it could absolutely be a contributing or causing factor.

Thank you so much for the info!! Question: if you have a lip tie, do you most likely have a tongue tie as well? I have a confirmed lip tie and I suspect a tongue tie but when my dentist took a glance at it he said it was fine (but since it was literally a glance I’m a bit suspicious that everything’s normal there). This is so fascinating - I have PT for MTD, definitely going to ask her if she knows folks in the area!
Uhhh it’s more likely but I’m not exactly sure how much more, that’s a tricky question. Best to just have it looked at by an expert! And by someone who asks you to move the tongue too- not just looks at it ;)
with regards to tongue posture on facial structure around 13mins does this mean that all the best singers will have a well functioning, well formed face with a wide upper palette? And if this is the case, how does facial restructuring, so movement of the bones of the face, affect singing performance?
Basically yes, and theoretically, adding space where it was lacking will help free up muscles and add room for resonance. Especially the tongue, which needs to be able to relax, flatten, and move out of the throat can be impaired if there's isn't sufficient space.
What they said ^ they nailed that answer!
I have been studying a lot and came to this same question, as well as the answer. It makes sense that less space = less room for resonance = overcompensating in other ways that usually cause tension
