I miss Lloyd. It’s rare having a Protag who’s weapon style is dual swords. Didn’t hurt to have him voice by Robin from Teen Titans back in the day either. It all made me overlook the fact he’s wearing DORKY SUSPENDERS, WHAT?! I never noticed!
I have to admit, I do love how they made Lloyd in the game and anime. SO MANY TIMES, it's always 'WHAT?! He's wielding TWO swords?!' or 'DUAL WIELDING?! That's a skill only Heroes/one-in-a-million can learn!!' I am so sick of it. But even before I knew about that crap, Lloyd never once seemed like that to me. He got to wield two swords because he worked his ass off for that, with Kratos training him to refine him even further. Not to mention the ONLY time I recall him using two swords was EVER brought up was from Kratos himself asking him why he used two swords, as it was unusual and a bit unorthodox, to which Lloyd just replied that he wanted more attack power. And that's another thing that separates him from other anime Protags, he uses two swords, but he's not overpowered, he has to work to get stronger and he's not that far ahead of his friends in terms of power. Unlike KIRITO, who that anime can't SHUT UP about! So take notes, Anime/Manga Writers, just because someone can wield two swords, doesn't mean they're overpowered. It's a rare skill, but not a god-tier one, get over yourselves! Now, dual wielding two of Doom Slayer's Super Shotguns on the other hand, THAT would make ANYONE OP.
It's not like Kirito trained in isolation to get to where he was, watched several of his friends die, and almost died himself in order to learn how to dual wield, not to mention his parameters. It's like you didn't watch the anime at all. T.T@@thesennmaster9791

I feel like it's really sweet to see the concept of Kratos praising his son for having the strength to defeat him, and they animated this beautifully in this anime... But there is a more significant, bold message in the game's take, having Kratos call Lloyd softhearted for letting him live, breaking the pact with Origin that nearly took his life just to show disdain when Yuan rescues him. It really highlights Kratos grief and the impact it had on his self-worth. When I first saw it, it felt like it really diminished the moment. Lloyd finally faced his father and grew so much. You'd think Kratos would acknowledge him like he does here. I realize now that showing Kratos act so ungrateful despite everything was a powerful move, and is more memorable for it. There is scarcely anything cliche about Symphonia's writing. They take risks, and the characters feel genuine for it.
Can you explain what you mean by Kratos acting ungrateful? I agree that Kratos at this point in the game and also in the animation has very little self-worth. He is hoping that he could die by Lloyd's hand because he thinks by doing that, he can somewhat pay for what he's done. I really liked how in the game Lloyd rebuked him about how dying isn't the way to go about atoning. It was refreshing for Lloyd to call him a stupid jerk and that him dying would mean nothing. (That is bold writing). I really didn't want Kratos to die, but I really wanted Kratos to work hard to make the world a better place with Lloyd and be there to support him and do all the dad things that he missed out on. It leaves a sour taste that he leaves to Derris Kharlan never to see Lloyd again. I mean, get Yuan to go! and stay with Lloyd. It feels to me like he's leaving because he doesn't feel worthy of being Lloyd's parent and that Lloyd doesn't need him, he would only be a hindrance. In this animation Lloyd doesn't really get the chance to talk Kratos out of any of his wrong perspectives. It's only in the Kratos alternative ending of the game that Kratos realises in his heart that Lloyd accepts him, but I guess that's what's shown here with the hug. In that alternative ending and Lloyd and him get to spend more time together, that's when Kratos acknowledges Lloyd's strength and growth. So he does acknowledge it in the game, but it's a bit later. During the fight in the game, Kratos would be preoccupied with doing what needed to be done to release Origin. On a side note, Kratos called Lloyd softhearted, but so is Kratos.
If this game got a total remake, then they should do it like this, finish Mithos earlier and make this the final battle instead. Idk how the material blades/eternal sword would be handled to get the same ending but I think this OVA made better story and characterization under the medium’s own constraints.
Thats one of the Reasons why older Tales of Games need Remakes. Tales of Symphonia Remake would be better then the Remaster. Then Tales of Abyss really needs one and needs to flesh out the Romance between Tear and Luke. What other Tales of Games need Remakes? Tales of Vesperia and Tales of Zestiria are good as they are.

Ok I will post my crazy theory on a 2 year old video Tales of arise released right, it has a ton of similarities to symphonia, the spirit cores are basically exsphears without key crests, you have two worlds that can only be accessed by weird space travel, the enemy faction has 5 lords or, in symphonia, the grand cardinals, the real evil faction is influencing the faction that is oppressing the planet that our protagonist comes from and the story is about being your own man, fight against oppression and unraveling the mysteries of the world to save a single person that the protagonist loves Coincidence I think not In all seriousness, with the spirit cores they have the assets to make exsphears plus the story is similar in a lot of ways to symphonia so what I'm hoping is a symphonia remake with the mechanics from arise It would actually work very well, symphonia has some of the most out dated combat in the tales series, I mean, playing as anyone other than Lloyd, Sheena, presea, Kratos/zelos or regal is still a bit of a pain and playing as Collette and looking flashy is nigh impossible. I would love to see the combat translated to arise's style, plus playing as rinwell, the mage, was pretty fun and I would love to have that same kind of fun with genis, lloyd already felt amazing to play in symphonia and if you could combo like you can in arise I can just imagine the possibilities, even playing as the healer, shionne, was great, a lot of combo potential, so I would really like to see it
