In this video we're going to optimize a website of a client of mine from this score... to this score! Now that's a very big difference. If you follow the steps I take in this video, you also be able to optimize your own website, to crank up your speed of your WordPress website. Let's dive in right now. The first thing we do of course is to see what website we're going to optimize. So I'm put it in here motorsticker.com and I press enter. Now watch what's going to happen. I didn't slow this down, I didn't do anything on it. This is what happens. It's taking a lot of time. So let's see what's going on and I'm going to agree. This is a very nice website it's created by someone - not by me - and you just can click on it and then you have to just wait....
I'm this is definitely a problem. For a web shop, this is really a conversion killer, because it's taking way too long. It's actually quite a nice website it's about motor stickers - of course - and you can sell all kind of rim striping and all kind of things you need for your bicycle. Great. And let's press on contact, let's see how long this takes. Right that's really getting slow. So we're going to try to optimize the speed of this thing. What we need are third party tools that can measure the speed for us, and let us know if we are on the right track with optimizing it. To do this we go to Google and we type in "Page Speed Insights" over there. This is the website we're going to use. Click on it. We're going to open up another tab and we're going to type in GT Metrix, also over there click on it. And we're going to use another website, the last one is Pingdom tools, search for it and click on the Pingdom Website Speed Test Pingdom Tools. Here we go. So the first one is Page Speed Insight. I'll fill in your own website in over here and press on 'Analyze; . Then we're going to do the same with GT Metrix, just put your website in over there and press on 'Test your site'. Here we go. Also with Pingdom, go over there fill in your website, choose a location that's nearest to you - in our case it's Germany. We're going to press 'Start Test'. Here we go. Now let's go to Page Speed Insights and see if things have changed a little bit. All right, I have not seen a website this bad. This is really bad. On mobile an 11 and on desktop a 38 now, if you click on mobile, and you scroll down just a little bit, you can see what's the biggest problem. The first Contentful Paint, how long it takes for an image to appear, and the Largest Contentful Paint. So when this loads in, everything changes on your display, and this is not good for user experience. That's what Page Speed says. Let's go to GT Metrix. This is not very good. And why? Again largest contentful paint - they're not happy with it and the performance is just 25%, because it takes way too long. If you scroll down on your own website, you will see that it these are the seconds. One 2 3 4 5 6, and then at 8 seconds it's actually ready for 'Time to interactive'. That means after 8 seconds you can actually use the site. And that's way too long. Let's go to Pingdom. Pingdom is also not impressed, it has a C. With a page size and a.....

Masbro, please discuss about WAF (Web Application Firewall). I'm facing issues even though I've already used security plugins; my website is still vulnerable. CPU usage is spiking, and I've seen several tutorials on WAF. The most common attack targets admin-ajax.php, public_html/index.php, and many more. Great video, thanks! Before using this software my score was mid 40's for mobile. After using their instructions my score was about low 80's. After using your instructions my site's score is mobile 98, desktop 97. Brilliant video, brilliant result!

Hi Marc, thanks for the question. Yeah normally never use WPML but TranslatePress; th-cam.com/video/VJo2HtiEEvU/w-d-xo.html works way better 😃 But other than that, they both say it should work perfectly with each other... did you clear all caches?

Hi Matt! Great tutorial! This is the only plugin which really worked for me, and I was finally able to get green scores on Page Speed Insights.
I'm very happy with it, but I have one question for you. My landing page is loading very fast now, but the background slider (made with elementor) on the main header section is taking some time. I tried to exclude the images of the slider from lazy loading but that didn't work. Can you suggest another fix? Thank you!

Really loved your video, great explanation every step of the way. I have one question, should i exclude from lazy loading manually every picture is that is being loaded in the screen in mobile view?
Hi there and thanks for the question! If you see that the score on Contentful Paint is not that good, then yes, exclude the first images that are inside of your screen upon first load. Not when you scroll down, as they can be lazyloading without a problem 😀. Does that make sense?
@@WPressDoctor Yes, thanks for the clarification. I have a specific question for you. I have a plugin to enable Google recaptcha in my site to protect my eshop from bots. The js file loads 4 times and in every page and that drops my speed quit a lot. From your knowledge have you seen it anywhere else? It's even worse if I have contact form 7 with integrated recaptcha protection.
Hm yes I have seen that, not supposed to work like that. You could try to use reCaptcha v2 - it’s a checkbox “I’m not a robot” instead of V3 which actually is being loaded on every single page. See if that works?

Ok great video. Every video I’ve seen you teach this stuff very concise. In the beginning this website had 57 plugins which you said was a lot. So what is a good number of plugins to have for a woocommerce website? I know there’s not really a definite answer to this but if you saw let’s say 20 plugins for a woocommerce website is that an ok number of plugins to have? Or is that still too many? No sure is this helps but I built my woocommerce website using the Kadence theme. Everything was done with Kadence. And of course I put woocommerce on there to make the shop.

hey, this was very useful. I have a question. I already have these plugin installed on my wordpress: 1. LiteSpeed Cache 2. Jetpack . Can you please suggest me if I can uninstall these first before installing wprocket and then proceed with the optimzation as shown? Will it cause any issue? Do I need to be mindful of anything apart from what is told by you in the video?

Hello Mat! Thanks for all the info! After having problems with litespeed and when being very fast but eliminating my menu, I wanted to try again with wprocket. Sadly wprocket when turning reduce activity at CDN, it crashed my website, and the same for trying to exclude media. I already had imagify. Because I am a photographer, I have a lot of images on website (and for ok quality I try to make them at least 100-200kb). My normal speed now is 75-80 for mobile. Is there another way for me to get good FCP and LCP for mobile test? Does it make a big difference for google if you have 80 or 90 on the speed test?
Hi Bogdan, thanks for the question. Well the mobile speed is always a challenger. but ranking higher in Google is not only speed, it has to do with a LOT of different kind of things. But if you are at the same in SEO 'points' than yes, speed will make the difference in the end. You could try asking WP ROcket for help, they might want to check it out for you!
Thank you. I had WP Rocket installed already, but it needed some tweaking. I had to turn off some of the JS options again, though, as WP Forms warned me that something wasn't right. However, the speed has gone up significantly, especially with the use of Imagnify.

Hi Matt, great video. We have everything "green" in page speed insights except "performance" PLUS we are "failed" in CWVs. Consequently our rankings how bombed out terribly. We did switch from a Weebly platform to a WP/Elementor platform Autumn last year, We, also dropped the "www" from our URL. I "hope" the page speed (which is pitiful at the moment) "should" get us our CWVs back to a pass when we improve this! On your video where you show the "removing" of lazy load in PSIs out of the 8 slides typically the 1st 4 to 6 are blank! Do I remove the lazy load on everything on the page that "should" show?

Yeah so you should optimize every image before uploading to your website in Photoshop. Max size 2000px width and around 200kb. But for small things like logos, make it the exact site you would need, like 150px width for example or SVG.

Just wondering if you have encountered js and CSS files still being flagged by page speed insights report in "Eliminate render-blocking resources" , "Reduce unused JavaScript", and "Reduce unused CSS" even with all settings applied as per your video in File Optimization section of WPRocket. Hi Brian! Great to see you here again, how are you doing buddy? Well if I encouter these things I always start to wonder if the caching system of the hosting company flushed the website. Because most of the time you see this when there is some Varnish or other caching system living on the server - hosting side. You might want to check that first 😁

Hi @WPressDoctor ! I have watched your tutorial for multiple times and at one point got my Mobile Performance to 71 and desktop to 94 but then some elements were broken (header search and hamburger menu). So I restarted and now it's only between 40-64 for Mobile and steady 84 for desktop. Can you help me? Using WP Rocket and Elementor Pro (with custom header). Also can't reduce LCP under 8 seconds (using a hero slider and Piotnet Addons for Elementor)

Hi there! Thanks for the comment. Yeah so you could try to exclude the hamburger menu script and the search script within WP Rocket. Just try different things out, disable the JS minification or delay for example.

Hi Adebayo! Thanks for your question. That does not sounds good. You can always try another way to minify it, or just don't minify! It might also take a while (5 min.) before everything is well minified. What kind of theme are you using?
Matt, Pingdom says my website has a wait time of 4300ms out of a total of 4500ms. Is this an issue with hosting? I think i'm using WP hosting...

Hi Matt im facing white screen issues when installing, my site goes up for 30 mins then blank again. i tried disabling manually optimising images to webp and adjusting each pic to correct dims, ive tried wp-optimize and now Seraphinite Accelerator but still same issue. when pics are available page insights reads error and when white screen page insights score 99. my domain name is with cloudflare, hosting with hostinger and DNS setup back in cloudflare. could that be the issue? Please help
Hi Jody, thats a pretty weird situation. How can your website be up for 30 min. and then goes blank? That sounds more of a PHP error problem than a caching problem. Check your error logs to be sure its not something completely else 😁

Hi there, thanks for the question. Make sure that image is very small in size, the exact dimension you need (dont resize with css) and in WebP format, that might solve the problem?
@@WPressDoctor My problem is caused by the high lcp value. The images are not in webp format, but they are loaded in an optimized way. I have a problem with the loading delay in the Lcp section (Loading Delay 6900ms)

I'm not sure what hosting company you're using, but more and more companies out there offer staging environments these days. That is where you want to work on your site in the meantime. And with a staging environment, all you have to do is click 1 button and it will all be moved over to your live site.
Personally, I'm using Cloudways for my hosting and they do offer this standard.
Hi Matt - love your videos - well explained. I got my performance score on Page Speed Insights from 63 to 85 with wp rocket (awesome!). Then i added Imagify and the performance dropped to 65. :/ How to understand that?
Hi Raimond! Thanks for the kind words and your question. This happens sometimes due to a lot of reasons. Make sure after updating your images and converting them to WebP to clear all caches on your website again. Also make sure to preload CSS. After that is done, score should be higher than it was 😊 Let me know how that goes!
@WPressDoctor Thanks Matt for replying and giving some ideas. We ended up having some errors on the page and deinstalling everything and reinstalling all back. Have now installed WP rocket and imagify. Still cant get the performance numbers higher, stying at 65, LCP is 3,2 sec. Interesting that Imagify could not get it resized properly. Do you offer personal consulting?

it is better to use Autoptimize lazy load and disable automatic lazy load for the first 2 images instead of copying every time the URLs of the 2 first images. I have WP Rocket and i don't like their lazy load options

You are welcome! WP Rocket has the ability to exclude a class, but it didn't work well for me. in that situation I combine Autoptimize and wp rocket, with Autoptimize, also to minify HTML. Keep in mind I'm just a user, not someone who promotes a product, what works for me, might not work for you! @@WPressDoctor

Hi Alavudeen! Thanks for your question. That does not sounds good. You can always try another way to minify it, or just don't minify! It might also take a while (5 min.) before everything is well minified. What kind of theme are you using?
