Gillan, Coverdale, Hughes, Dio, Turner, Bonnet, Doogie White... man, Blackmore opened the door for many great rock singers. He may treated badly most of them, but he gave them their big opportunity to shine. They were all totally unknown when he found them and he made them rock stars. Difficult character, but such a great musician and visionary.
Got to remember that the person he had most friction with Ian Gillan ... states that that’s all in the past and has been in touch with him. Added that he hopes they can have a pint together some day. Ronnie Dio and Ritchies relationship broke down when Ritchie did a photo shoot in America on his own for a magazine. Ronnie felt that this reinforced that it was Ritchies band but Ritchie thought nothing of it ..... no big deal. That was the end of their relationship and the fact that Ritchie wanted to move away from sword and sorcery lyrics and have a more commercial sound. Ritchie also met up with Jon Lord before his death despite friction between them towards the end of his time in Purple in the 90’s. The fact is we don’t really know what goes on. Can’t be easy being in a band with anyone after a few years of touring (American - 6 times in one year. They recon exhaustion and illness led to Gillan leaving in the year they outsold every act on the planet - 73/74)
@Hoikistunut kara karalahti yes they are great singers but, Ritchie gave them exposure... and that’s what they need to excel.... there are many great singers around the world we don’t know about but if they have a chance to perform with a big name like Ritchie Blackmore, they to will get their name out there and become noticed...
Doogie has the most beautiful, strong, clear voice. He stands with all the great tenors of the world, rock, classical, any genre. The '95 Rainbow Concert just blows me away, between Richie's guitar and Doogie's vocals.
+masterpatricZeta3 Turner was/is an effeminate cocktail lounge crooner, peddling saccharine lurve slop. Saw him 'performing' with Rainbow in Liverpool, what on earth was Blackers thinking employing this drip.
Doogie, you are so emotional on this song. I love seeing you with Temple Of Rock and I will be there once again at the stage listening to you here in the States this year!! I hope you will stay with Michael, you two FIT! Thank you for this song, it leaves me with my head down, my heart emotional and tears coming to the surface.
I always come back to this song...I think that Doogie is a wonderfully underrated singer. I met him before a gig in 2015 when he was touring with Schenker. This is magnificent!! His passion really conveys, in the spirit of Ronnie James Dio. 🤘
OMG.. WHAT A VOICE>> Im SAD to say that I just heard of this man.. and I ve been in the rock forum since the late 70s. I know this song so well.. I just never knew who this singer is... Doogie is out of this world..
Doogie was a great singer with Rainbow. Wish they made more than one album. He did Dio proud on this version. There is a great 1995 live version with Blackmore / Rainbow where this song sounds great and Blackmore sped it a little and it really worked well.
what a great cover...speaks right in the soul .. RIP Ronnie,. in the beginning I thought that the guy in the green shirt was just a fan or something tiil i noticed the cajon :P
One day in the year of the fox Came the time remembered well When a strong young man of the rising Sun with the tolling of the great bell One day in the year of the fox when the bell began to ring When the time had come of one to go to the temple of the king There in the middle of the circle he stands searching seeking With just one touch of his trembling hand the answer will be found Daylight waits while the oldman sings heaven help me And then like a rush of a thousand wing it shine upon the one And the day had just begun One day in the year of the fox came the time remembered well When the strong man of the rising sun Of the tolling of the great black bell One day in the year of the fox when the bell began to sing It when the time had come for one to go to the temple of the king There in the middle of people he stands seeing feeling With just the wave of his strong right Hand he's gone... to the temple of the king Far from the circle of the edge of the world he's hoping wondering Thinking back of the story he's heard of what he's going to see There in the middle of circle it lies heaven help me But all could see by the shining of his eyes the answer has been found Back to the people in the circle he stands hearing feeling With just one touch of his strong right hand they know... Of the temple and the king
Just wow !!! These musicians really played it amazing. That version is just wonderful !! I hope you guys will one days read this ! Tx you for this great song. I prefer doogie White rather than Ronni for this particuliar one song
Canción maravillosa. DOOGIE grande, le vi en España con MICHAEL SCHENKER . La gira de Stranger is Us All, de las mas potentes de RAINBOW. Long Live Rock and Roll!!!
Apple makes great guitars. This was Steve's real passion. You can even find a documentary on his high expectations of how these instruments were designed, go so far as to criticize the quality of the wood and the small imperfections in the final product. In all seriousness, an Apple sticker on ANY guitar just seems like the lamest thing to do to your instrument.

One more..Ronnie Romero
And a very decent man. Never deceived anyone. I always paid everyone I owed.

I agree, great video from that concert. I like the sped up version of this song that Blackmore did during this concert.
Just love Doogie"s voice and the way he is ! one of my favourite singers!
This song is a real treasure
After Dio, Doogie was the best singer in Rainbow in my opinion.
+masterpatricZeta3 Turner was/is an effeminate cocktail lounge crooner, peddling saccharine lurve slop. Saw him 'performing' with Rainbow in Liverpool, what on earth was Blackers thinking employing this drip.
I'd have to go with Graham Bonnett, but Doogie is probably number 3 on my list.

This is soooo good. A fitting tribute to Ronnie James Dio. RIP.

From the Highlands of Scottland there we see the Temple of the King
