@ Then that’s not bad at all! I was pricing all the beginner gear ie: half harness, rope, carabiners, double stop descender, hand and foot ascender and it was just about $300. A professional belay w/auto stop and rope will bring the cost up another $300. But a beginner set-up will work good for each of us.
We are looking at rapelling gear x2 now. Once we gear up and practice slow and low, since the 900ft shaft isn't perfectly vertical, that would be a great place to start.
@@themahoneymine I knew you two would be doing that and I thought of the exact same thing. The next drop in the Occidental is a great place to practice with the Figure 8 Descender and maybe with the Self-Breaking Belay Device. What’s your thought on ropes? I was thinking the inexpensive ropes from Amazon will work good at the Occidental and places like it, but definitely the Black Diamond dry ropes for the vertical shafts if we do them enough.
1:28 would be dragging that rock home lol. Wondering if all that low grade ore would be worth milling. Sure it wasn't worth it for them but maybe for you. Have you ever sampled? Really neat looking rocks.
@@a3skywarrior929 No, my thoughts are the same as yours. I figured if Hans Lund left it there then it’s most likely there’s not much in it. Hans was a local legend here. All the old timers here greatly respect him. There’s better ore the closer you move towards Virginia City. This area is too far south on the Comstock Lode. But legend has it that Hans could find all the pockets of gold in area that others couldn’t and that’s how he made his fortune. Take care my friend.
Thanks for the adventure Ernie ✌️🖖
@@jamesculver829 You got it JC, this area is great to get out and roam around. Take care JC and keep your videos coming.
Neat future exploration

Heck yea Ernie awesome stuff thanks for sharing heavy pans
@@Rockymountainprospector Yes Brad, it’s an awesome looking shaft. I’m wondering where the horizontal shaft goes to. Take care my friend 🤗
Awesome stroll through history
@@gitnitdun JB, do you think we al can rappel in and ascend out of that? I think it would be a good beginning shaft for us 👍🏻
@ErnieDionne just need ropes!

@ We’ll do it JB. It most likely will need to wait until February until I can get my gear.
