- Samantha Seneviratne achieves these easier-than-they-look Technicolor Cookies without any piping. Instead, she pours icing the colors of a Santa Fe sunset over orange spice cookies, but you can use whatever hues you like: dreamy blues and greens, elegant grays and whites, or festive pastels. Each cookie will be uniquely itself - and uniquely you.

As always, Sam is a joy to watch. What I really appreciate here is that she didn't just do a fancy icing technique atop a boring cookie. The addition of the orange zest and spices sounds really, really good. Love this time of year at NYT cooking.
I made these cookies already. They didn't only look amazing, they tasted spectacular! So well balanced. So happy with them!
There's a quality to Sam's voice that takes me to story time at the library as a kid.
these cookies are kind of the showstoppers (looks wise) in the group. her son's enthusiasm really cracks me up. lol
A gorgeous take on traditional sugar cookies! I loved the video! Will make the cookies. The outtakes were delightful.
These are so pretty! I also love that they're festive without being the traditional colors. For really bright colors I switched to super concentrated gels or powdered pigments from the Sugar Art. It was such a huge change! My royal icing is so pretty & the powder pigments add zero moisture to my macarons.
I really like the tip to roll out dough between parchment paper. Way less messy and easier to handle!
I love her bakes. Appreciate the tip about resting frosting,
This is great cause you can use any color you want really - taking this idea for other themed events!!!
That whole roll the dough between parchment paper before you chill it is GENIUS! Plus meringue powder rather than fresh egg whites!
From the first tease of your cookie on #NYTCooking, Samantha, I’ve been anxiously awaiting this video. You did not disappoint! Here’s to hoping I can pull off these brilliant shortbread work-of-art tiles.
Those are absolutely gorgeous (and so is your blouse -- I would never be caught dead baking in something that nice, as I'm a bit of a klutz).
The cookies are gorgeous but the kid is the ⭐️. Too cute!
my fav part of this demonstration arrives at exactly 1:06 where Sam says: "doot de doo..."
That icing technique would be great for sugar cookies, as well.🤗🤗🤗
I love the spices and orange flavour! Going to try this tip in other cookies
This video was so enjoyable to watch from start to finish
Color choices on point!!!!!
The cookies are cool, the kid is awesom
Absolutely love the look of these.
I subbed fresh ginger and mandarin orange zest bc that is all that I had. Used vanilla bean paste also. The dough is so fragrant and supple. What a great recipe to add to my holiday baking repertoire! PS Meringue Powder is very hard to find!
That combination sounds GREAT!

In what city and/or state and/or country do you reside? Perhaps another viewer of your comment can help you procure some meringue powder.
@@lisahinton9682 I am In Calgary Alberta Canada I ordered off Amazon!!! So good!!!
What beautiful, vibrant cookies! Challenge for Samantha, can you design a dessert that emulates the colors and patterns in your blouse? I think that would be so striking.
I love the shortbread recipe and they are so beautiful!
So pretty! And that orange, cardamon and cinnamon combination is for me.
Gosh! These are so amazing! How fun and I know my teenage son will love them
We love Sam!
I love eating cookies while watching cookie week 🍪
Samantha is delightful and this recipe is delightful!
Spectacular!
its such a pretty cookie ✨✨
Just like pouring acrylic paint! BUT YUMMY!!!
These are beautiful!
Going to use that shortbread recipe for a cookie party this weekend!
How fun!
why are these comments so negative - no one is forcing you to make these
Repeating this recipe for spring bc how can I not eat these while watching kids hunt for Easter eggs??
that is a brilliant idea... the colors would be beautiful for easter eggs/cookies
These are going to make great pride flag-themed cookies.
omg yes
❤
Thats a super cute idea ☺️
These look gorgeous! They remind of those vape pods, but they are better because they are cookies! 🦩
Ficaram lindos! 😍😍😍😍😍
Great filming ❤
question about cardamom pods... I'm new to using cardamom. Do I grind the whole green cardamom in a mortar and pestle, or should I remove the little seeds from each pod first? Thanks! I'm looking forward to making these!! Wonderful video, and love the cute kid at the end!
YAY COOKIES
Bonus points for the kid tester
I started with my stand mixer bowl for the powder sugar stage of the recipe.
Pretty! I'd rather dip the cookies than pour the icing.
Does this kitchen not have rolling pin rings (spacers) for guaranteed measured thickness?
Sam continues to create the PRETTIEST dishes.... just let us know if you ever need to incorporate some stone-milled goodness into your life
I could never eat these cookies, they are a piece of art! ✨
What is the brand name of the food coloring that you used?
once again, asking for proper closed captions. the auto generated ones have errors and are therefore inaccessible. it's literally the NYT. yall can afford to hire someone to do it. but F disabled people who need CCs, right?
I see CC's. Maybe they were just added?
@@SF-si4ydthey're the auto generated ones, which only give a rough approximative transcription through speech. They're not comparable to a proper transcription made by a human being. Any big production has someone doing CCs for them, can't really see why they don't, besides ableism
@@Eulangelo exactly
@@SF-si4ydI said *proper* closed captions.
“…it's literally the NYT. yall can afford to hire someone to do it” The NYT could, of course, but it could just work from the auto-generated ones or even have a chatbot clean up the auto-gen ones if it’s too stingy to hire a proper transcriber.
😍
Could someone post the recipe here?
it's just a shortbread cookie with royal icing, pretty boring tbh
Thank you for pointing that out.
those are easter colours though 😐
Ok pick different colors when you make them?
I would never eat such a thing … artificial colors, artificial anything, no thanks
Then don't, Haily.
The same effect can be done with all natural dyes as well. Butterfly pea, matcha, beet powder, spirulina to name a few... but those aren't always readily available to everyone. This recipe uses everyday ingredients someone could find at their local grocery store. The fun part about this recipe is that it's easily adaptable.
@@JourelBaello Agreed. Not every opinion needs to be posted, especially one so trite
Literally no one asked haily
