What he said is absolutely right...insted of 350 crore, they spent 2000 crore and the most negative point is they are still acquiring land at a huge cost of 12 lac per cent. Absolute case of mismanagement. When Cial was constructing Mr.Kurian had two options either to make an airport with most modern facility with a high cost or a low cost model with minimum facilities. This intelligent IAS officer selected the second one and first ensured that company has achieved breakeven point in 10 year period. After that he went for a first class second terminal and now one more is coming. People should have a vision that is not easy to have unless u blessed with it.

Just improve the connectivity between existing airports and rest of Kerala. We dont need new airports, we need better and more highways.

I am from pathanamthitta,I strongly feel the need for airport in Erumeli.Now it is inconvenient to travel 4 hours to Kochi or 3 hours to Trivandrum.We want development in our place also.Not Kochi everytime.
How often do you fly to be inconvenienced by 3 hours? Cochin and Trivandrum both have plenty of business and tourist travellers in addition to NRI travel. Calicut is smaller in scale but again plenty of NRI travellers specifically from the Gulf sector. Erumeli, if it becomes a reality, could end up with the same fate as Kannur.
and that's dumb. We can't turn all of Kerala into a city. Build runways in every district.

Felt very strong smell of vested interest in Mr.Kurian's views about proposed Erumely airport. As per climate change data CIAL - Nedumpassery will be submerged in water not later than 50 years from now. If you have little future insight one would spontaneously support Sabrimala Airport proposal and of course Mr.Kurian's tremendous years of experience and knowledge is an indispensable asset for this project.

Pathanamthitta has dense forest and wild life. If the airport comes more than 1000 acres of land will be destroyed. You are concerned about 50 years from now, have you ever thought of what will happen to your future generations if the air and water is polluted.
You know what is happening in Delhi, people are dying of lung cancer and other illnesses caused due to pollution.

Proposed Erumely Greenfield Aorport നെ കണ്ണൂർ എയർപോർട്ട് മായിട്ടു compare ചെയ്യാൻ പറ്റില്ല. കാരണം കണ്ണൂന് ചൂറ്റും കോഴിക്കോട്, മംഗലാപുരം airport ഉണ്ട്.
ഇടുക്കി, കോട്ടയം, പത്തനംതിട്ട, Allappey, കൊല്ലത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗം ഉള്ള എല്ലാവർക്കും Erumely Airport കൊണ്ടു പ്രയോജനപ്പെടും. കേരളത്തിലെ നല്ല ഭാഗം ഗൾഫ് , യൂറോപ്യൻ, അമേരിക്കൻ ആൾക്കാർ ഉള്ളതു കോട്ടയം, പത്തനംതിട്ട, Alleppey, ഇടുക്കി ജില്ല യിൽ നിന്നും ആണ്.
Kerala has most no of passport holders and frequent travellers. We need new airports not for now but after atleast 20 years it will be beneficial.

Kochi airport from the beginning minimized in investment, the airport building size is limited to the requirement to everything was focused on minimize the investment to be most cost effective. Luck, hard work and honesty paid back but Cannore from the beginning had big building + party involvement.
200plus Indian airports next 5-8 years, toruist arrivals may 5x, next 10yrs can expect a $7-10Trillion economy, large Malayalee diaspora of US, Canada, Australia, Europe - may be 5-6 million may generate business for all airports and if Per capita income can go above $12000 - may require more airports in future.

I don’t think Indian carriers would be able to operate more flights from Kannur to gulf as long as the 65000 seats per week cap is there, not sure why he said “you can convince the Indian carriers to operate more flights from kannur”, the central govt has not increased that quota even after request from multiple foreign airlines before

The Big three Middle easters airline primarily use India to pick up passengers flying to Europe and NA. If GoI is to increase the seats, Indians may not have enough direct flights to the West. It is high time, their operations are controlled in india so that Indians can fly directly to destinations in the West.
@@gouthamvidyasagar I disagree, the scenario you said would come in if we only depend on foreign airlines for our travel, if Indian carriers can operate a direct flight from one of the Indian city to a destination in Europe or NA , why would somebody book a flight from India to Gulf, waste some time in Transit and then connect to their final destination? There is a huge number especially from the Malabar region travelling to the gulf, from whom gulf is their final destination.The passenger traffic has increased and also frequency at which people travel has also increased, its high time GoI increase the 65000 seats per week quota which would in turn help in more flights and reduced ticket prices for the passengers
@@sreenathsathyan6380 Indian n foreign carriers cant compete with the Big three from ME due to govt subsidy. Not just us, many countries are tryin to curtail their operations. By some estimates,more than half of indian pax taking big three are headed for EU n NA. Once this critical rule is tweaked to benefit Malabar folks, the Big3 will pick up even more pax from big cities and ignore smaller cities.
FYI, Delhi accounts for 29% int's pax in India and Mumbai 21%.
Kochi's bread n butter is Munnar-Thekkady- alappuzha-kochi circuit. This airport saw more than 5m domestic passengers last year. Kannur is way behind with 0.5m domestic pax.
We definitely need an airport. Going to cochin takes 3hrs with crazy blocks,especiallyfrom pathanamthitta and beyond. And need to keave 2-3 hrs for check in lJust need to do it corruption free.

Would be feasible if the NRIs and well heeled in Pathanamthitta and surrounding districts finance the airport.
Two major unsolvable issues affect the low revenue. First, Kannur doesn't seem to be a hot tourist destination.
Second, being a comparatively new airport, they should have made it A380 compatible.😢

The problem Kannur is facing is low traffic. No airline would fly the A-380 to a low traffic destination.

Kerala has different lobbies, one strong one for cochin . They are against all development at different parts of the state. Kochi airport lobby ie illicit land owners and stakeholders don’t want any other airport to develop. They pushed Trivandrum airport down. If an Airport comes in central Kerala then the revenues of both airport will come down especially kochi . It takes 4-6 hrs to reach kochi airport from central Kerala. If you watch who is opposing then we will know their vested interests. There are more NRI s than anywhere in central Kerala. Central Kerala airport would have been beneficial to a lot of people but will these vested interest people would like it . Aranmula airport was scuttled by these people. There was no agriculture in that area for more than 40 yrs but all these politicians from thrissur, Trivandrum and kochi came to block it. There was no temple issue either. They invented reasons to block it. Will the developer of kochi airport support any other airport . He also may have vested financial interests in the area.

Kasargod is near to Mangalore, Kozhikode and Malappuram is near to Karipur which makes Kannur feeble chance to survive. This applies to Erumeli if comes as well . Both TRV and COK run smooth
How can you say that . 111000 passengers in june month with only 2 airlines and limited flights . How can you say that no passengers . When you calculate the amount of passengers with aircraft movement it says 99% ovcupancy in all flights .
His viewpoint is shaped by the airport he manages, which may not fully reflect the state's best interests. It appears somewhat self-serving.
Why you need more flight. Open the door and lwt the market play. More people will fly in via QA and Emirates. More tourism. Now we are restricted to thinking this is for the NRIs alone. Now these 2 flights are hoarding like INR 60k for one way which is like 8k during off season.

Mr. Kurien's vested interest is very much evident in his opposition to the proposed Erumeli airport. He fears that the prospects of his own "brain child ' ie Nedumbasserry airport will be affected if the proposed Erumeli airport plan materializes. Actually Mr. Kurien has to extend his expertise and vast experience for making this Erumeli airport dream a reality rather than making such negative comments, ( coming from an eminent person of his stature and standing) which will have an adverse effect on the proposed sabari airport plan.

Spending another ₹2000 crore or more on an new airport might not be a smart thing to do, even if it can take away half of passenger traffic from CIAL.
You're forgetting that CIAL has to only service a debt of around ₹350 crores.

Actually, Nedumbasseri is acting like a lobby, which is not good for the state. The failure of Kannur is due to the area not being urbanized and the city itself being small. However, Calicut, Kochi, and Thiruvananthapuram have the capacity to become metro cities.
Calicut airport is almost 40 km away from Calicut City.

Districts like kannur,certain parts of Kozhikode, kaasrgod and wayanad has a huge population who can rely on this airport if international flights are allowed.Table top unsafe airports like calicut even though land acquisition in progress has huge limitaions. If u see his interview, I mean the entire video, he is not impressed with tvm airport also.. He basically was taking this platform to portray his grandiosity.. Yes.he did great in cial, but with immense support from central and state govts as majority stake holders were big shorts of kerala..
