    I'm in Calabria, South Italy and I miss so much typical italian/calabrian food so my first stop had to include some cooking with my italian nonna. In this video we'll go through her secret lasagna and meatballs recipes before I can munch on them :D

    Bella nonna, she reminds me of my nonna Maria Carmela who came to the USA from the Amalfi Coast when she was young. No measurements, just by feel and eye and it always comes out delicious! God bless this family. Brava nonna baci e auguri from Florida

    I was born in Platania Calabria in 1955. Came to Australia in 1958. All i can say is like my mum those nonnas sure know (or knew) how to cook. No books no recipes written down, all in their head. I miss my mums cooking so much. I try some of her recipes but very little or no success. My mouth is watering watching this video lol.

      @@DanFandelli Yes, looking forward to it. Coming back to Calabria is on my list also. My father's family is from the area..with the last name like mine. Cousins with a restaurant in the town of Siderno.

    prosciutto in lasagna? yes and yes.

      Idk why this quintessential ingredient gets forgotten so easily when preparing lasagna outside of Italy

    What is the name of the Chillies you used? I would love to pickup a jar when I’m in Calabria. Great video!

    • @DanFandelli
      @DanFandelli  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I think that’s just homemade chilli powder, from chillies planted in the back garden 😅 I’m pretty sure it would be similar to any other chilli powder you’d find in any small store selling local products there in Calabria.

    Dan, Buenno Sierra (spelling?) Love your videos!!! My wife and I are coming to Calabria this May. Where are you based, and do you do private tours? Would love to meet Nonna and Zio and see a little of your Calabria. Please let me know about possibilities. Ciao, Craig.

      Hi Craig! The town you see in these Calabria videos is Gioiosa Ionica. Unfortunately I do not live there so I cannot offer tours. If you plan to base yourself in that town for your trip in Calabria, the only thing I can do is helping you with finding an accomodation in a nice location 😊

    You sounded quite gruff when you gave the meatball to your uncle (at 6:17) 😮

    • @DanFandelli
      @DanFandelli  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ahahah this is so interesting actually 😂 in south Italy you first decline when you are being offered food. And the most polite reply they can do is to force you to have it pretending they’d be offended otherwise! It’s manners that would be interpreted as rude outside of that very south Italian context 😀
