I've seen quite a few covers of this great 80s guitar classic. This is the only one that truly captures the style and spirit of Kevin Mac's playing note for note. Every nuance of the epic original is faithfully brought back to life. Thanks for giving us a rare, close up glimpse into Kevin's genius!
Sounds like a robot playing it note for note, just the one main studio track. You can't play it that way live. Watch MacMichael on a live version. But great job on note for note playing and clarity.

This is, without doubt, the best ever attempt at playing this I've ever seen (other than from the cutting crew originally). Spectacularly authentic. Only 1 small suggestion as someone who has played and sang this live on many occasions though. The Bm chord leading into the choruses (bar 33 i think) is an arpeggiation of the Bm chord from the fifth string to the 2nd string, but pulling off the 2nd string to form a B suspended 2nd chord and then reverse arpeggiation back up through strings 3 4 and 5 before going up to the 12th fret. Please don't misunderstand me though. The rest of this lesson seems absolutely perfect to me (and far better than I could have produced), but its just that one section is slightly off I although I will freely admit that people can hear things differently. Only Kevin MacMichael could tell us for certain, and sadly he's no longer with us. But what a great band to write such a sublime song on their first release. And a superb lesson on how to play it. bravo Vinsama.

This nailed itself into my consciousness as the single best song I ever heard as a teenager (when music really gets into your subcioncsious mind and sticks like a limpet) I've listened to the original tens of thousands of times in the years since and still believe it is the most perfect song I ever heard. I tried really hard to critique this guitar riff and cannot (even in my very compulsive mind set) find an incorrect note, or even one that is off beat by the slightest margin. I acknowledge that people more well versed in music theory might laugh at my poor effort, but for me this was indistinguishable from the original. I applaud the dedication that can fool my ear. (and I honestly believe that the only living human who has listened to this song more than me is Nick Van Eade, because it runs through his head as an earworm constantly. At least I get a break every noe and then when I'm very tired)
