Hey Kamon - looking at that water, I think you need to throw it out, rinse the bucket out, fill it with fresh water and more oxyclean and rewash that suit again. It's hard to get that suit any cleaner in that swamp water you had in that bucket. 😊
Here in UK we use soda crystals. It is dissolving propolis and it dosen't smell. I put regular washing powder in my washing machine plus half cup of soda crystals. Bee suits coming out like new.
I wash mine in a 5 gallon bucket with oxy!! It’s awesome! Never in the washing machine. You just have to rinse it a few times. Dude, great hat!! A way of life!
Mike Palmer says its important to get stung often if you're exposed to bee proteins often. Maybe cleaning the bee products off the suits will prevent exposure to any family or friends who visit regularly without ever getting stung. Good to keep bee stuff clean or isolated so that we don't set people up to build sensitivity over time.
I also like Atsko Sport Wash. Hunters use it because it doesn't leave any smell in the clothing. I've used it on a lot of outdoor gear and am always amazed at how well it cleans. Even better than OxiClean!
Wash mine in dawn dish soap really helps remove some of the stains. Warm water and let it soak for a few hours and then rinse it out. Use as much as you want to get a good sudsy water .
Try Citrus power with the Oxi-clean. Citrus Power is made from the roots of orange trees, it will have the sent of oranges. Citrus Power is a industrial cleaner with no harmful chemicals. Blessings dean
I also use oxyclean for my bee gear but I also use white vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser to help get rid of the detergent scents. (The white vinegar works great for your stinky hunting clothes too).
I've tried a number products to try and get my bee jacket clean. So far the the best results came from using a combination of 20 Mule Team Borax, Oxyclean and laundry detergent. Let the washing machine fill with hot water then turn it off and let the bee jacket soak for several hours. Turn the washing machine back on and let is go through the cycles. For mildew stains use Kaboom. Spray it on and and let it soak in for 10 minutes and then rewash the jacket. Kaboom will lighten the stains by 80%.
Consider purchasing Oyi-Clean pod with Arm & Hammer WASHING baking soda. The soda will cut the bee dirty. They are sold in most quality grocery stores.
A good idea is start with a new bee suit .mark out the heavy dirty areas on your old suit sew velgro around the total dirty area and place a hard wear material over the top of this area using the velgro to fix to the suit remove and clean regularly .make sense i hope
I don't care about the stains -- they add character. But, I want to wash of the venom residue and sweat. So, I put my jacket and veil in the washer with cold water and no detergent. Then, I hang them in the sun to dry.
I have heard the Dish Washing detergent breaks down the propolis better than any laundry detergent. I have tried the liquid Cascade and it seems to work better than other things I have tried.
Kamon the skateboarder's shoe repair adhesive "Shoe Goo" (not shoe goop) will permanently repair that tear! Follow the directions and it will never wear or wash off. We even have used it for years to permanently repair cracked garden fountain basins. You can "presoak" suit stains by pouring detergent undiluted, just smear it around. Sometimes that helps before,,, the stain sets in the wash. I bought that suit off your Amazon store, thank you! USA quality all the way. Love the concrete block paint job. Looks good.
Kamon, give TSP a shot. Same size presoak tub, same water amount. Dissolve one cup of TSP in the minimum amount of hot water then fill the remainder with cold water. (Cold water soak) Same agitation before the rinse cycle finish. One advantage, no scent...a potential disadvantage is you will probably need two rinse cycles.
I’m wondering how much more would come out with a second Oxi-Clean run. It seems like you exhausted all the soap in that first run. That water was just nasty at the end.
You can think of OxyClean as Lye, alcohol, and Hydrogen Peroxide. It's purpose is whitening, not cleaning. You need something that will cut wax and propollis (rosin, tree sap), and it won't be easy. First thing I'd try would be a grease cutter. Any dish washing liquid will claim that, but I'd try something that's *just* a grease cutter. Second thing to try would be solvents. Don't use gasoline--you'll never get the smell out. Try a paint store to find Ethyl Acetate, used as a lacquer thinner. Hardware stores & Walmart sell denatured Ethanol. Ethanol & Isopropanol (rubbing alcohol) are safe, but not great grease cutters. Toluene or Xylene (xylol) are very good organic solvents, but test it on your fabric first. They will dissolve some plastics. AFTER using a solvent let it dry well, then wash it again in soap & water to remove any remaining smell. I would NOT use Acetone. Too likely to damage the fabric. GoofOff is Acetone+Xylene, so not that.
I wash my in the machine works great. I had my jack 6 years. I never wash the hood in machine only by hand. I dry on hanger. I wash it twice a season more if needed. I have a jacket like yours and also a cotton one .
Mine was 6 yrs old in the spring, washed 3x a yr, got new one in spring for backup, but old one feel so much better. Old one was so nasty in July, when we got done for the day i actually washed clean spot on concrete with pressure washer laid suit down an with a little common sense pressure washed it, was unbelievable how clean it came out an didn't hurt a thing, hung up and dried, an lubed zipper with food grade grease, just like we use on extractors . Hopefully good for another 5-6 yrs.
I use hot water, then I add dawn platinum 4 X dish washing detergent and handwash. This been doing a goo job, but I do not have many hives. One time I used bleach with it and the bees attacked me left and right. I rewashed it and then it was ok again.
I use old school soda crystals (I get Dri-Pak Soda Crystals online) to wash my bee suit as well as hive tools and other things that gets caked in propolis. It is the only thing I know of that will effectively dissolve propolis, short of pure alcohol. I also find that regular dirt is never really the problem but when it gets stuck in propolis - typically those areas of your bee suit that gets rubbed against hive part - then you end up with a really dirty looking bee suit even if it is just washed with regular detergent.
Looking good Kamon... Sent you my Check for the Conference.... Gave you my cell ... give me a shout still need to talk to you about my first grandson being born Jan 5th
You can bleach something white but you have to wash it with detergent to get it clean. You can’t bleach it clean. Better to wash first with detergent then bleach the clean fabric (or stained fabric) with Oxi Clean.
Kamon, been there done that, I use very warm water and hand scrub a little to loosen dirt better. Then let soak overnight and scrub again unless the water is as dirty as yours, in which case I rinse well, then start the process again. Then after completing the second round, if there are stains I still want to get out I shift over to dawn dish soap. Use liberally and hand scrub. Works really well...but remember to use really warm water, just don’t burn yourself. And you can even let it soak with the dawn dish soap in the hot water for a couple hours to help break down the difficult stains. Rinse well, washer rinse cycle a couple times does well too. Mike
An other way of getting the suit clean is to rubb pure butter into the fabric. After that you rubb in normal handdishwashing liquid. Let it soak. Rinse. Make it all over again till it is clean. Finish off with doing a regular wash in the washer. Good luck!
Hand cleaner from Auto Zone. Go Jo or something like that. Throw a big glob on there, rub it in, then wash. It cleans your hands good and you'll have a clean suit. And use your own beeswax to lube that zipper. I do it for all zippers. Boy scout tents, coveralls, camper and boat covers.
I recently cleaned my suit using powdered Tide with 1/4 cup of Borax, 1/4 cup of washing soda, and a cap of Calgon. Let it soak for 30 minutes, then rinsed. Now it looks like new.
I just did a beesuit washing video. Just the blue dish soap and the power of the Sun in a clear tote. That oxi stuff looks like it was working, too. Bees didn't behave any differently towards me. Lies. All lies! Lol
Mines all moldy too. Can’t get that out I don’t think. Sweaty bee suit thrown in the back seat and left there in the summer heat I believe caused it. Oh well. Comes with the territory I guess.
I haven't tried it on my bee suit yet (it's only had one season of use and is a solid coverall type rather than a mesh so it's not that bad yet) but I found an industrial degreaser product that gets head sweat stains right out of ball caps after about half an hour soaking in hot water... the product I used is called Kapunik and it's a bit hard on the hands so rinse real well :) I'd imagine any heavy duty degreaser ought to work. I need to try it on propolis...
I have a mann lake vented jacket that looks exactly like yours and it has held up really well. I've been using it for three seasons and it's in as good of a shape as it was at day one. According to the website there bee suits are made in the USA
I wash my work clothes with the Fast Orange Detergent (not cheap) to get out the oil/grease/sweat/grime from the factory job (which it works really well for). I have no idea how well it will work on the bee related grime you deal with, not beekeeper (yet), but it is high on the list of things I would try.
Good test! I use borax soap with a heap of baking soda, that seems to work ok. Once I tried to us bleach to remove the stains, it worked some, but it's not good for the fabric. I'm ok with the stains.
The metal zippers are bad about oxidizing and then become non functional. I contacted ultra breeze and ordered new zippers but it is hard to find someone who will put them in your suit. I recommended suits with nylon zippers...
I’d grab a spray bottle of Shout and do a big spot that’s dirty and let it set for 24 hours and run it through a quick wash to see if it takes the worst of it off.

Thanks for the great info bud.
Ha I put mine in the bath tub with hot water bleach and tide they do not come out like new but it does a good job Ha Kamon question for u u have been doing bees for a while now have u come to the place where u can look at the entrance of a hive and tell if they are queen less or can u tell the the hive is geting ready to swarm just by looking at the entrance no internel inspection u see the entrance u can say this ant right by the activity I have been searching the internet and cant find any thing on it. I'll try it an put a comment up about it
Had a friend in high school football. His mom would Wash his suit in liquid dishwashing marching soap. His pants were so clean you could hardly look at him (with out laughing) I don't know what brand the soap was.
Do you remember the phosphates they banned in laundry soap decades ago? They didn't ban them from dishwashing detergent. Another notable difference is that DW detergent often has chlorine (bleach) included.
Frankly I’d be leery of wearing a bee suit washed in something that actually turned it back to bright white again. Anything that good at breaking the bonds in organic compounds just can’t be good for your skin. I just spray the dark spots with 409 and wash in ALL detergent. With all the zippers my suits have, this is just a sound investment, since replacing a zipper is a nightmare.
Is that a "DirtRooster" Hat, while you do Dolly Work ! Not. (Dolly's were those Wooden Legged things,) Scots Washer Woman in 19th Century, did laundry with ! Kamon your a dirty boy…lol.. 😂🤣 Thanks Laurel for making him wash his suit!!
Beeswax on the zippers works great for lubrication!
That's so brilliant
As dirty as that water was I would wash again. It probably lost its cleaning power.
Hey Ian, Bob, Dirty Chicken, Mr Ed, Fred it appears Kamon has started a bee suit cleaning service. I say we all send him our beeziness....
Here in UK we use soda crystals.

I did this same thing using oxy clean this spring and it came out spectacular. Always love the giggles from behind the camera.

Great video! Any bar soap on your zippers will work forever. My favorite is ivory. ✅😁👍👍🏴☠️
Wash mine in dawn dish soap really helps remove some of the stains. Warm water and let it soak for a few hours and then rinse it out. Use as much as you want to get a good sudsy water .
i use dawn also. Does a good job.
Had guy comes out for queens he goes eewww your all dirty .. I thought wish I had dirty old bee keeper I could just go buy queens from.

A good way to lubricate the zip is just to rub a pencil over it. The graphite is a good lubricant

Trisodium Phosphate??
Oh man, now I feel like a dirtbag ☠️after seeing your so fresh so clean beesuit🤩. Thanks for sharing. Now time to was my dirty grimy suit😆🤙🏼
Check out Phil the beeman another Canadian. He has a cool video using a pressure washer with great results. Phil is friend of Ian.
You can use Oxalic Acid to remove a variety of stains in clothing.

20 mule team Borax sold at
Wally World. Its been around forever. On the zipper use
Dry bar soap .
its not in stock at all walmarts...
@@danielgriff2659 I found it by the rat traps, not the laundry detergent section.

Somebody has been around the dirt rooster judging 🧐 by the wardrobe
Even non scented soap has scent, it is simply neutral to the human nose
After 10 years of marriage, you are getting the hang of it, careful steps there my friend LOL
My problem is I like seeing how much I can get away with. Keeps things interesting for both of us!!
I’ll take heed to these tips👌🏼😆
Can you do a SHAM WOW review next? 😄
it does get washed!!! Love it

Oxiclean makes a white label also. It works great to whiten the laundry.
Mine is stanky!
I gotta do this.
Sent away for hunting works good
Amen
I recently cleaned my suit using powdered Tide with 1/4 cup of Borax, 1/4 cup of washing soda, and a cap of Calgon. Let it soak for 30 minutes, then rinsed. Now it looks like new.
Soak mine in bathtub and rinse with shower, hang on plastic hanger to dry.
I just did a beesuit washing video.
Just the blue dish soap and the power of the Sun in a clear tote.
That oxi stuff looks like it was working, too. Bees didn't behave any differently towards me. Lies. All lies! Lol
I think you should just sign the old one and sell it...then buy a new one!
Looks like you have a good bit of mildew on that suit. Soaking in borax should help remove most of that.
Mines all moldy too. Can’t get that out I don’t think. Sweaty bee suit thrown in the back seat and left there in the summer heat I believe caused it. Oh well. Comes with the territory I guess.
Hi, Kamon dawn and borax works pretty good for me.

Wax your zipper with beeswax
I've come to the conclusion that my bees hate the smell of my 😓 sweat
😲🐝🐝🐝
Yup same here!
I have a mann lake vented jacket that looks exactly like yours and it has held up really well. I've been using it for three seasons and it's in as good of a shape as it was at day one. According to the website there bee suits are made in the USA
Guardian bee suits are made in Georgia.
Awesome I will try to contact them for the conference and possibly for my next beesuit
Sweetie. You don't "try". It's addicting. A good addiction, but addiction none the less. And, like all addictions, expensive.
So you're just here for cleaning tips?
Good test! I use borax soap with a heap of baking soda, that seems to work ok. Once I tried to us bleach to remove the stains, it worked some, but
it's not good for the fabric. I'm ok with the stains.
Now you just need to do a second wash with clean water and oxy clean :)
Try something called la's amazing... Ive found it at the dollar tree here in canada. For windows its a mix ratio of 1-400!!!
The metal zippers are bad about oxidizing and then become non functional. I contacted ultra breeze and ordered new zippers but it is hard to find someone who will put them in your suit. I recommended suits with nylon zippers...
White Brite from Walmart.
A friend of mine use to soak her husband's ball sock in cascade over night and she swore it cleaned the socks.
I’d grab a spray bottle of Shout and do a big spot that’s dirty and let it set for 24 hours and run it through a quick wash to see if it takes the worst of it off.
Have a look at "clean cloth nappies" strip wash.
An agitator wash will ruin your netting.
No doubt.
But a tumble washer (front loader) will not.
1/2 cup of oxiclean, 1/2 cup bleach use extra water setting, hot water if possible.
Comes out pretty darn clean.
I did it 3 times between fall last year, this summer. Nothing ripped or got ruined.
I just bought an ultrabreeze, it's weight is heavy on the shoulders, the zippers are most of the weight. The material is bulky and stiff. Don't love it yet.
Hey Kamon , put it back into a fresh batch of oxyclean a second time . It’s worth a try . In the second time leave the suit in for twelve hours . And then do the same thing in the washing machine.
Use super clean degreaser full strength in a spray bottle and use as a pree wash spray. Or soak similar tot the oxy clean. It eats the propolis.
i have the same jacket, yet my hood is a bit different. i soak mine every now and again in water and small amount of clorox bleach, i rinse and let it air dry. works great for me.
Put the veil in the sleeve then use a front load washing machine.
You can use hard bees or candle wax on the ziipper
Less Toil brand cleans all!
On it like a hornet! Definitely doing this today
BILLY MAYS HERE !

Ha I put mine in the bath tub with hot water bleach and tide they do not come out like new but it does a good job Ha Kamon question for u u have been doing bees for a while now have u come to the place where u can look at the entrance of a hive
and tell if they are queen less or can u tell the the hive is geting ready to swarm just by looking at the entrance no internel inspection u see the entrance u can say this ant right by the activity I have been searching the internet and cant find any thing on it. Thanks have a great week.
Did you weight it before/after the oxi?
💜💜💜🙏🙏🙏
Beekeeping is a dirty job!
Kamon, how about some bees wax to lubricate that zipper?
wash more than once.
the bees chased my niece around cuz of her perfume as we had a family get together they NEVER leave me alone cuz they luv me lol,,,,,i soaked my suit in tide an the bees seemed like it didnt matter,it came out pretty clean,,maybe now soak it in oxi an see if it comes cleaner?? I'll try it an put a comment up about it

How about the mildew did it clean that. I can't get mine clean either. I try to watch all your videos.
I've given up on mine. Keeps people awsy.
Store brand oxygen cleaner is unscented and cheaper.
try superclean
Frankly I’d be leery of wearing a bee suit washed in something that actually turned it back to bright white again. I washed one of mine 3 days ago! ROLL TIDE!!!
