Jason Chance was an Agency operative assigned to undercover missions as an Army Lieutenant in the Chemical and Biological Defense Command. He had a history with the military for being a West Point graduate and fighting in the Gulf War where he received the Bronze Star. Afterwards, the U.S. Army bestowed him the rank of second lieutenant and his presumable career with the Agency began alongside enlistment with the CBDC.
The unit commanded by Chance was active against the terrorist forces of Black Baton, of whom Erich Rhoemer was in charge, and his biological attack on Washington, D.C. Chance would later join Gabriel Logan and Lian Xing in Kazakhstan to secure crates of the Syphon Filter virus stockpiled by PharCom. The CBDC agents joined Logan on the flight to the United States, only to have the C-130 transport shot down in Colorado. Chance kept Agency commandos informed on Logan's progress to recover PharCom data discs, and maintained his cover.
When Logan arrived at the Agency's New York labs to trade data for Lian Xing's vaccine, director Lyle Stevens used Chance's association with Logan as a ploy in case Logan escaped custody. Chance dressed as a test subject and eliminated CBDC agent John Ramirez after Logan released him from a cell. He reported to Stevens and patrolled the rooftops surrounding the laboratories while wearing full-body ABS armor.
Chance encountered Logan along a parking garage roof attempting to escape by helicopter. He was able to wound Teresa Lipan, but Logan shot Chance into the helicopter's rear rotary blades using a UAS-12 rapid fire shotgun and evaded the Agency.

This was the first ever experience of betrayal for me, when i was a child. I still remember it to this day.

@@ShadowDeist The betrayal of Lance in Vice City crushed me when I played that game back in the day. Looking back, there were some hints being dropped that were seen in some of the conversations leading up to the final confrontation with him. I remember Lance saying that he felt he was being cheated and was not respected as a partner in their operation. I was thinking to myself at the time, uh oh, where is this going?

The fact, that pathetic Chance was rescued several times by Gabe and having to play hostage was very manipulative, deceptive and a ultimate betrayal to him. Even saying those things about Ramirez and Theresa was more than enough for Gabe to end his life. Chance envied Logan, because he will never be like him.
Syphon Filter 2 was the 1st Syphon Filter game I've played as a kid. During the 1st mission when I had seen the "Chance" overlay title near Chance, I thought it meant "chance to kill", so I headshoted him from afar and the mission restarted. Now that's unintentional foresight.

Played the original when I was a kid im 27 and one of my first PS1 games this one came out and at the time I said I hope they remake or remaster todays graphics in the future for this game series.
Man, same. I was 7 as well when I got to the ending, seeing chance betray you and then reading that Teresa is dead. Sheesh, my younger self was devastated. And am again after reliving it rn😂😭
I think the biggest knife in the back was when Chance killed Ramirez. I'm sorta surprised Gabe didn't realize that Chance was really an agency operative till the end. Goes to show that sometimes no matter who you trust, they'll stab you in the back every time. Gabe sorta figured that out the hard way.

@@AdamWest1290 i know right me too i was so upset with what he said about Ramirez. Basically Ramirez was the only cbdc agent that survived the plane crash and he died thinking that his commander betrayed him.

I was 8 years old when i played and finish all 100% this game and is still my favourite of all the time.. the conspirancy real of the agency, the friends of gabe, the loss of his men and the most closer one Ramirez(killed by Chance), the final with the apparently death of Teresa and the future uncertain of Lian.. all toghether with the betrayal of one of the closer man of Gabe..Jason Chance.. E p i c. I WISH for a remake. But with the same dialogue.

Me and my Dad played the Syphon Filter series together when I was a child, when we got to this part and I couldn't figure out how to win my Dad noticed how the USAS-12 kept blasting him back and was like "Shoot him until he gets knocked into the back of the helicopter."
6 Year old me: "Dad you're a genius!"

Because Ramirez trusts you, and you killed him, Chance.
the amount of chicanery and subterfuge in this was amazing. before mw2, before gta san andreas and vice city, this game was the one.
"I'm wearing full body armor gabe you cant hurt me" yet his head is exposed in the cutscene and gabe pointing the gun to his head I never notice this as a kid till now. xD

I really wish that the game would have showed chance playing double sides it would have probably made a little more sense but if you pay close attention to the game everytime chances is around Gabe gets into trouble with the agency
You would be amazed to know how similar the Italian version of Logan sounds like to the original one!
Fun fact: it's the same guy who does the Italian version of Piccolo in DBZ :)

Chance got a point, how many men did both killed to this point and Gabe didn't like what Chance said
I like how Syphon Filter games makes you get creative with the bosses, Gregorov for a instance took me a long time to figure out how to beat him, i couldn't kill him or just sneak back at him and taser the headshot running bastard, but them i realized that those lights could be shot and no way he could headshot me in the dark, so it was easy after knowing the trick, Rhoemer and Chance were easy to figure out, as the former there was simply no way to fight a guy with a M79 using guns, and the only unique weapon in the area was Gas Grenades so of course he couldn't resist the thing. Now as for Chance it was just obvious, he could be invulnerable to bullets and explosions, but those Helicopter blades wasn't spinning for nothing.
I noticed Gregorov didn't zero in on me when I shot the lights out, so I did it and beat him. But I legit thought I was doing something wrong because the briefing said "You may need to create a distraction" and shooting the lights didn't seem like a distraction to me. Turns out that WAS the correct way to win. As for Chance, I accidentally died running into the blades, that's how I figured it out.
I killed Chance by making him fall off the building.

Gregorov I tried to save the gas launcher from 2 levels before but they don't give you enough. Chance I gotta ask, why even start the chopper? the one thing that can kill you. I found the shotgun and first thought was to shoot him off the roof but another video showed someone hacking the game and guess what...HE WALKS ON GODDAMN AIR!!!
My first real heartbreak was this betrayal
Jason would have win it had he not started the chopper way too early. Gotta love main villain setting their own doom in the penultimate battle against the protagonist.
I was never able to beat this guy i always wanted to see how it ended. Thank you so much!

As a kid I was never able to beat him and it frustrated me so much until my brother told me I had to shoot him into the chopper blades
Man I remember this level I was about 13 when this game came out. Man u have no idea how many tries it took for me to finally figure out how to kill chance. Man this game was awesome.

When I was a kid me and my bro couldn’t figure out how to kill him. We thought he had to be next to a car , shoot the car, and have it explode
Man this brings me back when I was 10. Finding out how to defeat Chance just clicked right before I went to bed since I thought that if I push him to those tail rotors he might die. So I tried it first thing in the morning and beat him. This was very memorable indeed and now I'm 31 haha.
I haven't played Syphon Filter 2 in years and I still remember how to beat Chance.And I'm 36

putting a challenge out there: eliminate Chance with the M79 found in the previous level. I read in a forum that it has enough knockback to where if you place him just right you can send Chance into the blades without destroying the chopper. I've been trying all this weekend but I either get killed trying or miscalculate and blow up the chopper. makes me wonder if the forum was bullshit.
Something I really like about SF despite its flaws, is that most boss fights has some cool gimmick to beat it instead of the very popular "chip away at its health until it dies" fights lol
So I realize that Syphon Filter 2 has humans for bosses. With Morgan, you have to wait until his bombs are deactivated while he has the "dead man's switch" on him.
The second boss, you can't kill Gregorov. So alternatively turning off the lights against him; the game foreshadows when he shoots the lights off for you during the chase.
And Chance. The cutscene goes through the rotor blade of the helicopter. 😂

Damn. Chance obliterated me time and time again in the past. Something about seeing you take advantage of rolling under the chopper and shooting him into the rotors just doesn't seem right to me...
