      @@Audfile Egyptians were supposed to get shot down because that's what happened in reality. My videos are not like GS or GR. GR make 'reenactments' but then often they have little to do with what actually happened. As for GS, I sometimes watch his videos but they tend to get boring. It's always the same thing, this plane versus that plane. No context or reason. I try to make videos as close as possible to actual historic events.

This had more powerful engines and was lightened, with seatback armour and one of the guns removed, while flap settings were adjusted to give greater lift at higher altitudes and a new pressure suit was introduced. At the end of the 1950s, reflecting both the threat of possible invasion by the Soviet Union and the realities of nuclear warfare, Swiss military doctrine changed to that of a dynamic (mobile) defense that included missions for the Swiss Air Force outside of its territory, in order to defeat standoff attacks and nuclear threats, including the possibility of defensive employment of air-delivered nuclear weapons. However the inability to field an air force of sufficient capability to carry out such missions led to a return of traditional doctrine.
    Production of the Mirage IIIS developed into a scandal. Although the Air Force staff wanted to acquire the best available aircraft on the market, neither it nor the Federal Council had issued performance specifications. The concept of mobile defense had replaced static defense, such as the Réduit strategy of World War II, as the doctrine of the Swiss Armed Forces. The new doctrine required greater numbers of long-range aircraft and tanks in order to combat Soviet troops before they arrived near the Swiss border. The committee on aircraft procurement, which consisted of two military officers and an engineer who was employed by the army, originally proposed "at least 100 Mirages" to be employed in a multi-role capacity.
    The parliament first authorized approximately 871 million Swiss francs to build 100 Mirage IIIS under license. But this procurement was soon crushed under massive budget overruns and the government asked for an additional CHF 576 million. The cost overruns were the result of fitting U.S. electronics to the French platform, installing hardpoints for moving the aircraft inside of the caverns by cranes, structural reinforcements for jet-assisted takeoffs, and other extras to improve the off-the-shelf Mirage IIIC.[24] The wish to procure the Mirage IIIS was also boosted by the possibility that the Swiss could acquire aircraft-delivered nuclear weapons, either from France or by producing them themselves.[25]
    However, another major reason for rising costs was the need to develop a separate variant for the photo-reconnaissance mission when the underwing pods caused too great a performance penalty. The differences between the IIIS and the IIIRS (as the reconnaissance version was designated) resulted in only 36 Mirage IIIS fighters and 18 IIIRS reconnaissance aircraft actually built by the Federal Aircraft Factory at Emmen. Twelve were allocated to a reconnaissance squadron, three to a training group and the rest to two fighter squadrons. It was found that such a small number was insufficient to provide the multi-role capacity deemed essential for the new doctrine. The Mirage IIIS went into service in 1967, and the IIIRS in 1969.[26]
    The lack of financial oversight and the apparent ease with which Federal Councillor Paul Chaudet and Chief of the General Staff Jakob Annasohn chose the Mirage (at the time, the world's fastest jet fighter) led, for the first time in Swiss history, to the formation of a parliamentary fact-finding commission.[27][28] As a result, parliamentary oversight on military procurements was improved and the military was given the organizational and professional structures to avoid such budget overruns. One Air Force officer had to retire, and Annasohn himself retired voluntarily in the end of 1964, followed by Chaudet who stepped down in 1966

By the time of the Six Day War, in 1967, Iraqi Hunters - were flown by East German, Polish, Libyan and Pakistani pilots. I know for sure that British mercenary pilots flew the Royal Saudi Air Force BAC Lightnings starting by August 1967 but the Six Day War was already over by then. The Saudis had barely enough personnel to run existing RSAF units and nobody qualified to fly and operate the British fighters.

    Mirages radar had very limited look-down/shoot-down capability because they were designed as high altitude light interceptors against soviet strategic bombers.. Definetely they were not designed as fighter-bombers.. French air-to-air missiles were unreliable.. The Delta-wing design acts as huge air-brake so in close dogfight the french planes loose a lot of energy.. It is obvious that Arab pilots had no significant training and no intelligence against Israeli Air Force tactics.. The egyptian MiGs were heavily downgraded also..

Let's say you are a fighter pilot, you intercept an enemy transport aircraft full of enemy paratroopers on their way to capture one of your air bases. But you say, nah, it's not a fair fight and I'm gonna let them live. So, they land, capture the airbase and kill a whole bunch of your countrymen in the process. And then you fly back to your home base and tell this story to your CO. In a non-democratic regime. Your are getting the firing squad, no doubt about it.

      The Greyhound comes from the Military Aircraft Mod. There are seven more aircraft in it such as B-2 or C-5 Galaxy. Here, it is supposed to be Noratlas but Greyhound has some resemblance. I improvised the skin, deleted USN marking and placed some IDF instead so it's not particularly correct.

      No escort can always protect perfectly under any circumstance. Things depend on the tactics, situational awareness and so on. The exact details are unclear but the most likely explanation is that two Egyptian MiGs kept them busy (and sacrificed themselves) to give the others a chance.

FWIW the Egyptian pilots did much better than our mostly pro-Israel Western accounts admit, and that Osprey volume helps to correct the record. There Mirage V kits were transported to isreal by Sea in secret by France where they were assembled with assistance by French technicians. Isreal floated the story of stealing blue prints and manufacturing them in Isreal. Even if isreal had stolen the plans it lacked the industrial base to manufacturers all the components, engines. Electronics........ in such a short time and field them.. The upgrad to Kafir were done in isreal with US, French assistance and installation J79 engines. Nobody ever said that Israeli Air Force operated Greyhounds. You are obviously not a DCS player so let me explain what it is. DCS World is the most complex and most realistic military flight simulation ever available commercially. It features many aircraft and other ground and naval assets from WWII to present day. But does it have every single model ever built? Not even remotely. So, for doing reenactments such as this one, you need to make some compromises such as using a more or less similar asset instead of the one you don't have. The only thing you can do unless you are a large production company with millions of dollars available.

    • @showtime112
      @showtime112  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It wasn't necessarily an easy trap. In this case, there were Israeli paratroopers about to take an Egyptian airfield. The lead element took on four Mirages so that the second element could shoot down the transport planes. It was a sacrifice. In vain though, because Egyptian ground troops retreated from the air base anyway.
      As for missing, perhaps they weren't missing much in reality. Also, shooting with that gyro sight is a lot harder than it seems :)

    50 years ago, in May 1967, Jews around the world held their breath. Israel's existence was threatened, surrounded by Arab armies. on June 5, Israeli planes carried out a preemptive strike destroying enemy airpower and paving the way for a fulminating victory. On the 10th, when the armistice came into force, Israel had conquered Sinai, Golan, the "West Bank", Gaza and the Old City of Jerusalem. Israel's crushing victory in just six days changed the geopolitical landscape of the Middle East. Emerging as the regional power, it buried the hopes of those who wanted to “wipe Israel off the map”. For all Jews, there or in the Diaspora, it was a transformative experience that, after centuries of insults and violence, filled them with pride and confidence. They will come against you in one way, but they will flee before you in seven ways ... who can stand against the God of Israel? Who will rise up against the one who can do everything? And will you stand up to tell the story !!! ???

    • @showtime112
      @showtime112  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sources are always listed in video description but I'm just gonna put it here too. It's David Nicolle & Tom Coopers - Osprey Combat Aircraft 44 - Arab MiG-19 and MiG-21 Units in Combat
      Am I 100% sure that this happened like that? No. But I'm using a credible source and if they are incorrect, so am I.
      Don't get me wrong, Israeli military kicks ass and nobody can seriously say they didn't win all the wars. But it doesn't mean it was just shooting exercise for them. Arabs would occasionally fight back but the view of these wars we get in the Western world is pretty much one sided. When I first read this book, I was a bit annoyed by it and didn't enjoy it much :)

      @@showtime112 There is no record online of 2 Israeli transports being shot down during the Six-Day War (This would have been a major event for such a small military in a short war..) - Sharm el Sheikh was taken without a battle by Israeli naval forces in 67', after the Egyptians fled the base. There's no problem with admitting the Egyptians kicked our ass in the 73' October War - But the incident you recreated here seems to be based on a very dubious source.

    • @showtime112
      @showtime112  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JBugz777 Israelis have a tendency to downplay their losses. And admitting that they lost anything to Arab aircraft is something they avoid as much as they possible can. Since accounts of the wars come mostly from Israeli side, we tend to get a certain perception.
      Egyptians did flee the base, true. It is also mentioned in this same book. Which doesn't exclude this event.
      As for 'dubious source' I wouldn't call Tom Cooper that. He is one of the biggest experts on Arab and some other Middle Eastern air forces in the West and is the author of many books covering these topics. True, his accounts are hard to verify because no one else has come even close to cover them.

Number of assets is limited we will probably never have a simulation with every aircraft ever built. C-2 was the only one not entirely different from Noratlas.
