    Murray sent me an email with the link to this video. You did a great job with a great opal! I found your cutting devices and the cutting sequence to be very interesting. Most people today would probably say that cutting dry is not something that one should do, but I have cut a lot of opal dry and find it to be very effective and much less messy than cutting wet. I like that your machine seems to have its own exhaust system, so there is no need to wear a mask. If I had an exhaust system like that, I would probably cut dry most of the time. The video also impressed me from a "production" viewpoint. Zooming in so that the opal takes up most of the screen is very effective and is something that I am going to try. Video of cutting from farther away is much less interesting .... and can be quite boring to watch. I'm sure that the viewers are quite pleased that you shared this with us ... and so is Murray!. dp

      Thank you for watching our video and your kind comments. Yes, cutting or promoting the cutting of opal dry these days, is almost tabu. I nearly always warn people of the risks of silicosis in my videos, even while working wet during sawing and grinding, I use a mask. I take every precaution during dry sanding, using a mask and using a Baldor dust extractor. I can't be too careful. Thank you also for your feedback regarding the video work, my wife can take the credit for that. We have both learnt on the job. By the way my, my wife thinks your cats make a valuable contribution to your videos. Will keep an eye out for your new videos employing the zoom principles. 🙂

    My first parcel of opal was from Olympic field. I've only got a few left to cut. Thanks for sharing.

      @diverseopalproducts I got mine back in the late 1980's. I've been holding on to it for a while cutting some here some there..most was so pretty I fell in love and it went into art or my collection jar.

    That's a beauty! Looks like there's a big crack though. Maybe just the lighting?

      no, thats a crack.

      Thanks for your feedback. The fracture is staying in at the owners request. In the rough state there was a chip where it starts. Maybe from a miners pick. If it lets go one day, there will be 2 beautiful stones. 🙂

    Great video. Do you not worry about heat when dry sanding in case you burn the stone?

    • @diverseopalproducts
      @diverseopalproducts  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your feedback and question. If you are using quality silicon carbide paper burning should not be an issue keeping in mind, paper needs to be changed at the appropriate time.

    Beautiful big opal. I like the shape, it reminds me of a knife or a big tooth or bone. Thanks.

    There is a big crack in the middle, strange to don't talk about, stone need to be saw. If set, the stone will split in two piece. I think you can split it with finger pressure ...

    • @diverseopalproducts
      @diverseopalproducts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was left in at the owners request but time has already taken care of that. I was surprised nothing happened during the cutting but overnight it decided to let go. Now we have 2 lovely stones.🙂
