Jethro Tull - With You There To Help Me - 2nd version (1970)

- Jethro Tull, the only internationally successful progressive rock band, in whose music the flute plays a leading role, live on 15.08.1970 at the Beat Club!
Jethro Tull -- the British rock group with Scottish front man and flute player Ian Anderson. Best known for his tendency to stand on one leg while playing concerts, Anderson is also the man who introduced a classic instrument to rock music: the flute - especially the western concert flute. The song "With You There To Help Me" was released on the third Jethro Tull album "Benefit" in the spring of 1970. At that time the group had already moved from their rhythm & blues roots to progressive rock with Celtic music influences. And during the 70s and 80s Jethro Tull even turned from folk rock to a more hard rock orientated music style.
The greatest band that ever walked the planet. I saw them live 26 times starting in 1969. Full of music
Lucky you. I'm a bit younger and lived in forest/swamp, so I never had a chance to see them live.
Love that ! I’ve seen them 1 time 🩷
I knew a guy who saw the Dead many times. You must be a "Tull head." 😂
Now in my sixties. Still get goose bumps listing to JT early music. None better - long reign to the Tull.
It's good stuff, man! Same here, 60's and shit, too.
@@bigrebone BEFORE "Aqualung" especially.
me three!
me four!
Particularly that lineup
probably one of the best bands ever. certainly the most fantastic multi-skilled front-man of all times.
His songwriting aside, lyrically he's simply the William Blake of rock.
Fifty years later, I'm still enthralled.
@@windyhead7960...for sure !
Great song,great album,great band.R.I.P. Glenn.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
1970 was Tull's greatest Music "Benefit" and songs from" Living in the Past" Were masterpieces This line up was Tull's greatest chemistry of player's .Cornick Bunker left soon after this Concert.very sad day for myself 15 yr old then 68 now
I fully agree with your comment.
Two magnificent albums.
This was in my opinion the best formation of Jethro Tull.
@@nemyz7421anche la formazione degli anni 1971-1973 era fantastica....Anderson, Barre,Hammond,Barlow,Evans...dal vivo erano strepitosi...ricordo 3 concerti...Milano 1971,Varese 1972,Roma 1973...indimenticabili !!!!
No one better than this band… Ian Anderson was so far ahead of his time… Benefit a most excellent album
The talent level was only rivaled by a few other good bands.
@@alwilson3204 I don't think any band in rock history rivals the talent level in the 1976-1979 line up
Benefit was their first album which included keyboards and it gave the band a chance to vary their musical ability . Which they continued with to this day . Love this early footage of a great band in action.
Still listening to this old Tull stuff, now in my mid 70s this music is my drug along with a few nice beers and in my man cave I can play this loud and worry about neighbors telling me to turn that music down. I am in my element immediately transformed back to these days and the most brilliant music. I must buy another flute as i could back in the 70s play the damned thing just for my own enjoyment. Music the best drug if you suffer from arse er right arse
I’m mid 50s-enjoy Tull with an IPA and small cigar at max volume! Hope u enjoy !!
I love this era Tull.
So much energy, youth and confidence ... it's really wonderful. 9:22

:Ages well like good wine
When I'm in the mood for real music I listen to early tull.
Benefit is one of my fav Tull Album. John Evan came to enrich the band sound. The best line-up ever!!
Ian had just turned 23.
Blows me away how talented and accomplished some of the early rockers were at young ages.
Many starting in bands at 13 and 14 years old.
So glad I grew up during this time and got to see the mighty JT perform numerous times. And they continue to evolve.
John Evan's piano playing is sublime. The entire band are on fire here. ❤
Beethoven is nodding with his head, Yes, yes this is it ! (John Evan)
First Tull song I heard when I was 15...Bought Benefit the next day
Favorite band for 51 years...
Benefit is one of the best albums of JT and this track is one of the best in Benefit .
I love We use to know on Stand Up, but I must agree with you Benefit is awesome.
Heard this for the first time at a party in 1970 where I had arrived peaking on LSD and it shook me to the core. Still shiver every time I hear..ahh those were the days.
LM Poor old AO. 1971 Blue Cheer tablets.

Been there, done that, but during his concert...can't tell you how many times I listened to Benefit and Aqualung...timeless music...
You just don’t see mind blowing talent like this now 🤯
I return to these songs and they remind me why I love progressive rock, and why Tull remain my all-time favourites after 40 years of listening to them
Seeing this just reminds me that Jethro Tull is still not in the rock 'n roll hall of fame. Where is the justice???? One of the greatest frontmen of all time, and so artistic & creative. Long live Tull!
R n R hall of fame...keep it!
It's beyond ridiculous they are nit in there.
Rock n roll hall of fame is a joke. No one cares about it.
i am not from north america it is weird how what was center of the world didnt care its reign
Tull is too good for hall of shame IMO....
Tull Best Rock band of all Times.
The ultimate 1960's Sound track...
Jethro Tull...and
the 1970's ........Refrain and Coda...

A halfway nice Album - but not the best. My Favorit is from the eighties: The Broadsword and the Beast
Beyond excellent. This is the stuff that hooked me for life.
Yup! It'll never get better than Tull.
Just effin awesome!!
Glen cornick and clive bunker, what a rhythm section, fantastic stuff indeed
Undoubtedly the most ORIGINAL BAND OF ALL TIME !! Amazing musicians x incredible songs x Tull have never changed ,,, ASTOUNDING MUSIC 🎼 GX
My older sister had somehow heard of and bought their albums and I listened to them endlessly from age 14; a great band with a unique sound.
Ditto
Love Benefit, my first tull album
Tulls best lineup 🔥
I'd agree, but would like to extend that to cover at least up to TAAB.
All Jethro Tull line ups are the bests , there is no bad line up , Jethro Tull is the best progressive rock band ever existed .
Jon Evan in the keyboard magnificent
Yep. They lost me after this lineup. As a young drummer, I idolized Clive Bunker, who left the band after teaching Barry Barlow the licks to all the songs.
Playing this for my friend that passed Jan 15 she was that friend
So Very Sorry for your loss, sending love and prayers 🥰❤️
How many instruments does Ian Play????Such Awesome Talent IAN❤️🥰❤️🤪🤪❤️
The greatest band ever…. In my humble opinion. Ian Anderson is a genius with every band member adding to the music and performance. To me.. pink floyd and led zep always come to peoples minds when we think of rock bands… but for sheer variety of genders…TULL rule
Genre not "genders"... other than that I completely agree with your opinion.
Ian Anderson, one of the most creative and talented
songwriters, musicians and performers to ever come
along and with bandmates also very skilled musicians..
other bands, altho very few,had flute playing such as the
amazing album called,Two Quid Deal? by Skin Alley, and
that album is a masterpiece...thanks for posting this..
Wow! Waited 50 years to hear this version! Jethro Tull, totally unique!
Flippin' brilliant. Introducing the marvellous John Evans. The freedom to be creative and brilliant was a wonderful thing - ain't seen the days since. What have we got now?
..always good to hear a live version, without all the floursishes of a studio production. That Les Paul sounds absolutely savage..
Try Tulls Isle of Wight set. It’s electric ⚡️
With Clive Bunker
+ Glenn Cornick!x
Drum and Bass
@@umitgok3275 I agree. They were the finest, most under-recognized rhythm section in rock music IMO. The band was never the same without them.

Thank you for your
comment Thomas.
Very few musicians can put this much energy into a live performance.
What a great live version of a great song from another great Jethro Tull album.
The absolute best lineup ever 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I was used to hearing their music on Rock Stations and years later on Classic Rock Stations, but TH-cam brings this group to life for me because every early performance of them is just awesome to watch. There isn’t another band like them, it’s combination of many things art, theatre and the instrumental side is pure perfection
HERE HERE
This song is so underated . It's refreshing to see classic Tull.
Just as wild, skilled, amazing, magical as the first time I heard this music 45 yes ago! Brilliant
53 years ago.
Best version ever!!! Flashlight up!!!!
LOL d*** typos best lineup ever.
My family wanted to strangle me how much I told them I worshipped Jethro Tull from 1972 on. Such peaceful times to this music. I knew who my friends are...not facebook likes and thoughts and prayers. ehehehehe.
OUTSTANDING
uncanny , totally fusion stands the test of time . Iconic band still rockin
Fucking Awesome!!!! I love Jethro Tull and this version of this song is really amazing, the final part... WOW
I love to come back to this every so often when YT sends it around - the comments are my favorite part - to commiserate with fellow Tull worshippers in affirmation and adoration is as mystically uplifting an experience as hearing the music - much like I imagine hearing J.S. Bach play a new cantata each week at St. Thomas' in Leipzig would have been. Stand Up - was my first album, as a Junior in High School. I found This Was immediately after, and from there, until the time when Ian's voice began to wane - I bought and studied every piece - having taught myself to play flute, just as he did - and attended every concert I could within a few hours drive. It's been a lifetime's joy hearing the musical sermons of Sir Ian Anderson - and still going strong - with a new project that he starts each year. Thank you, Jethro Tull, et al; SDG, as Bach would say - "Soli Deo Gloria".
Absolutely fantastic
They were so brilliant!❤
In 1970 I saw mountain and jethro tull At red rocks, Morrison, Colorado. I did.
Some mind-altering substance.I think you know what I mean. One of the best concerts I ever, saw
This is one of the tightest, best versions of this song available. Just amazing!
Benefit was always on the playlist back in the day, Amazing album, this is just a tremendous rendition of this tune.
I hadn't listened to Benefit for at least 10 years .. how wonderful !!
Ian Anderson what a Legend man could he sing a play the Flute . Great musicians. Music then was Amazing
The best ❤🎶🎸
Simply a phenomenal song & album loved Ian & the Boys of Jethro Tull, good ole days long gone by that’s all I know..✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️😢
I was 7 years old when my older brother bought Living in the past .
Been a fan ever since
Großartig!
Love this performance!
At this moment, April/May 1970, while the Beatles were breaking up, bands like Tull were hitting their stride.
I saw this band at hampton beach casino in New Hampshire, USA was blown away
Benefit is a masterpiece!
The sample of Beethoven's "Sonata Pathetique" during the piano solo was great to hear!
Beautiful. Beautiful message. Beautiful MUSIC, real music. Sounds better every time i hear it.
It's cool hearing John Evan using a couple of bits that would eventually become the intro to Locomotive Breath.
AND at 4:51 copping the same classical riffs that John Hawken played with Renaissance, also on Beat Club, in 1970! Their first album was '69, before Benefit.
AND: from Living in the Past, side C "By Kind Permission Of"...
@@whatevershebrings And both were copped from Beethoven's "Pathetique."
@@thomasbell7033 and with you there to help me, then it probably will-ll-ll... : )
@@whatevershebrings If I had to pick one JT song, it would probably be this one. But after hearing songs from This Was as performed at Isle of Wight, My Sunday Feeling is up there as well. Sadly, they lost me after Aqualung.
They are one of a kind!
My favorite song of Jethro Tull
🌟🎵🥁🎸🎵🌟
I love you Beat Club. Whoever there is raining gold on the world right now with all these classic performances, deserves a fucking Nobel.
Rich the Ancient Metal Beast
Saw them in Memphis, yes Memphis can you believe it.. Ian would talk and joke with the audience between songs. Great show.
It's a always a real pleasure
It's sickening that they are not in rock and roll Hall of Fame and kiss is, wtf, over?!
They are the Hall of Fame, we the peasents know it
3:53 - one of my favorite Jethro Tull and John Evan moments ... awesome keyboarding.
Brilliant contemporary rock band, unique .
contemporary lol band
Até hoje escuto esse som, e acho DU KARALHO!!! Muito bom!
Jehtro Tull......great live song...
1969, awesome, mine was '87 tour cheers mate! one of my favorite of all time! 🙂
Stand up is my favorite my older brother wore it out!
This is pure jewel!!!
Thank god for Beat Club. What a treasure trove.
Ian Scott Anderson dispensa comentários simplesmente GENIAL.
His flute playing in a rock band set a great standard and Martin is a fabulous guitar player
Their early songs were more a raw response to life as actually experienced in the present...
Very Nice !!!
This is just brilliant
Best band of all time in my book that’s all I know, Ian @ his best “always”!!! Loved this time era the likes we will neva”EVA” see again, but I’m glad to have seen these lads many times!!! “Especially @ the GARDEN baby, “memories that will live 4/EVA”!!!!👍👍👍
Eva see them at the Fillmore East? 😃
The ENERGY! ♥️♥️♥️
Friend turned me on to it on 8 track when I was 12
Extraordinary musicians
Perhaps only one little singular song nowadays be like This little piece of wonder
I adore the early albums by JT - up to Thick As A Brick - so fresh and individual.
Always will be great.
My first Tull album too!
You can see how much went into recording this one, it sounds totally different live.
I loved this and didn’t even understand the size of this era
My favorite lineup.
Saw them once in 70, probably this concert, they were a brilliant live band.
This is beat club.
Saw in concert mid ‘70’s @ Madison Square Garden, NYC 🧡🎶🎸
