I forgot to mention a few things in the video: There actually is a temp setting that you can change in the "power management" section of the camera that I completely forgot that I changed a while back. With that said, I had mine set to high, so the results I had in the video are still true and relevant.
I think you've also used the IS boost mode, that's why IBIS was aggressive, not sure. That mode is for stills not for moving scenes. I've tried and the IBIS+OIS it does feel smooth and almost out of control, but not sure about only the IBIS. Also, the crop on the 60fps, I'm not 100% sure, I had that too, but then switched to 23.98 fps, and back, and it was not there xD, mystery!
I have an X-T30 and have been using it as a webcam for meetings for the past year (Eterna simulation is perfect for that). Anyways, one of the heat management things that I have found is to turn off the boost performance mode in the camera. It might not completely get rid of overheating issues but I am able to use my camera all day at 1080/60. I don't know how much it will help but it is worth trying if you have not tried that already. That said, if you are a 90% video shooter, I would suggest going with a Panasonic or a Sony. Fuji has made huge strides here and it is more than good enough for those like me that are typically photo centric with some video use. However I am very willing to acknowledge that they are not the best for video centric users. This is especially true if you are not the type to use the physical dials on the camera.
I can very much get behind you on this, it’s definitely not a perfect camera and needs some tweaking to be a reliable video camera. But it’s also preference, Sony and Panasonic might work great for some and it might not, just depends on the shooter and the requirements they need 🤷🏾♂️
Very spot on with your review. I've had my XT4 for 5 months and I've been through pretty much everything you brought up. 1. The autofocus is my biggest gripe. That's so funny that you brought up the camera just randomly focusing on a random object because I noticed that too. It rarely happens though. I'd say like 1% of the time it randomly happens. Also, I started shooting a lot more low light tests and I noticed the autofocus at night is so-so. The autofocus will pulse/breathe and it's annoying. 2. The overheating was definitely a problem for me in the summer. After the red warning would go on to force me to turn off the camera, I would immediately turn it back on haha. Very aggressive approach but I wanted to see what the camera could do. So far, I don't think it's had any negative effect on my camera. I would not really recommend it but if you're in a bind, it'll work. I haven't really had overheating issues since. Maybe like 3 times in 5 months. Anyways, very thorough review. Was this all shot in 10 bit F LOG and then graded after? Also, I liked your video and subscribed to your channel!
I am so happy you said all that because I thought I was alone and crazy for having those issues with the camera😂😂 As far as how I shot the video: -I recently bought the Atomos Ninja V (not cheap at all) and i record it through there to an SSD in ProRes 422 HQ to get 10-bit 422 (in F-log) instead of 420 by shooting directly to the SD card. It's completely unnecessary since TH-cam will compress it, but just like MKBHD I like putting the extea work in even though no one will tell the difference 🤷🏾♂😂 Honestly, I should make a whole video about how I get the cinematic settings
@@EricWhite Haha never settle for less than what you really want. All that effort does go noticed. I was gonna say the quality + color in your video is next level. I shoot at 8 bit cause my laptop is old (Macbook Pro 2015). I think I may upgrade though seeing how nice your video comes out at 10 bit.
@@calumetdarren thanks man I appreciate it 🙏🏾 and I feel you man, before the pc I made last year I was using a 2011-2012 max to edit 4K footage and it literally took me 4-6 hours to export a video in premiere 🙃

Tha is for the video, I subscribed 😎👍I think the face/eye AF is what everyone wanted to work better on this camera, but I've been happier using the autofocus range limiter feature instead of the face/eye tracking, Balbo24 and Pal2tech got tutorial on it. It will autofocus way more reliable on anything that shows up inside the focus box, but it won't track you outside of it unfortunately. Sadly I feel that the X-T4 should have been the game change for Fuji, but it rather got neglected for the others bodies that Fuji really didn't need to launch like the X-T30 II since Fuji already has announced that the X-E4 would be the last camera launched with the X-Trans IV sensor, Fuji should direct their R&D on the X-T4, X-S10 and X-H2, so it can ultimately lead to the X-T5. I totally feel that Fuji will pull a X-T4 II with a better AF on us like the X-T30 II 🤔 or Fuji will exclusively reserve the new AF for the X-H2 and future cameras. And I really hope that Fuji won't be pushing us against the wall with the X-H2 coming in 2 different sensors being one with the X-Trans sensor but sub-par AF or Bayern sensor with new and improved AF. So far I'm really enjoying my X-T4, I'm gathering inner confidence to shoot content to post😅 but so far I've has the sd card error twice in a full year, I noticed it happens when I remove one sd card out to offload to edit, and then I put it back without replacing or deleting any files, in occasion it may display sd card error, I turn off the camera, pop the sd out and back in, I turn it on and it's good to go. I do shoot with original Lexar cards, which aren't on the supported list, but besides those eventual card errors, it never actually bugged me while shooting, which I've been satisfied for. And yes I've noticed the same thing while leaving the camera in video mode in 4k 60p even if not filming, the X-T4 sort of spends as much battery as if it was actually shooting ao that's weird. It's by far my favorite mirrorless camera still, I came from Sony and firstly Canon, and although both have better AF, Sony's rolling shutter bothers me too much, and Canon crippled cameras and overheating drive me away from them rather fast. Thanks for the video, glad to see more X-T4 creators 😎👍👍
I was so obsessed with this camera and liked it so much but I went for a6600 despite the shortcomings only for two reasons video autofocus and unlimited video recording.
Very nice and genuine review. I’m still watching as of writing this comment (what I don’t like about the camera part now), I just found the background music a bit high in some parts. Otherwise very helpful review as I was considering getting the XT-4. Thank you.
It’s honestly so weird to me how they don’t notice or care about these things until after the camera comes out🤦🏾♂️ or maybe they are completely aware of it and choose to fix it in the next camera so every switches to it 🤷🏾♂️
I’m looking really hard at the fx3 or A7SIII, the only problem is I’d have to buy new lenses and Sony lenses aren’t cheap at all, potentially the BMPCC 6k pro but I’d lose autofocus and wouldn’t be able to vlog with it… just thoughts nothing for sure yet

Thanks for asking, honestly it depends. If I am shooting and saving the footage to the SD card, there is a bit of noise reduction that the camera does by default. But often I am shooting and using the atomos ninja V and recording through there, the footage is a lot noisier so I use neat video and there are settings to automatically denoise and smart sharpen. For sharpness, because I have a really sharp lens I set it to around -2 or -1 depending on how it looks.
The great thing is that F-log is pretty forgiving, honestly if you can use an exposure tool like false color or zebras to expose correctly I would advise for those but if not, the meter on the side of the screen is fine too. I would say if you had to choose one or the other, slightly over exposing is maybe the better option since highlight recovery is relatively decent, if you have a denoise software underexposed footage can be easily fixed.
You have to use external battery, that’s how you can beat overheating,I mèan out this plate on camera cage and use Sony fat battery 🔋 it’s very good idea
I’m thinking of getting the XT4 and making my XT3 my second body. Is the weight of the XT4 that much more than the XT3? And if I swap back and forth, is the images similar?
Thank you! I ve been experiencing the sd card error bug while shooting a conference, luckily, not a paid job, i had to shoot the last third with iPhone 12 Pro max w/ rode plugged on some lightinning adapt ...on on the run... I think if you shoot 4K 60 with the screen closed, it helps reduce the overheat issue
