I take a look at the history and evolution of Daffy Duck (that darn fool duck), the zany, whacky and erratic anthropomorphic black duck, with both a heart of gold and a wicked jealous streak .
Voiced by Mel Blanc, the man of a thousand voices, as one of Warner Bros. original Looney toons (starring in both the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies shorts), Daffy Duck is the third-most featured character in the Looney Tunes and Merry Melodies shorts, behind only Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig - Daffy has been called “a cornerstone of the Warner Bros. stable of animated characters” by The Encyclopedia Britannica and is often considered amongst the greatest of all time, with eight of his films included in the renowned list of 50 Greatest Cartoons as voted by 1,000 animation professionals - more films than any other character.
I take a look at how Daffy evolved alongside Warner Bros. other popular characters, including Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Elmer Fudd, Yosemite Sam and more, and how he co-existed and outshone characters from Disney including Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.
I discuss how animators changed his look, appearance and personality over time, and how each cartoonist had their own different takes on the character - Tex Avery and Bob Clampett, Bob McKimson, Chuck Jones and Friz Frelenf, in this brand new series in the same vein as my EXPLAINING DISNEY EVOLUTIONS.

He was their most popular character until Bugs beat him in popularity in the 50s. They also took his original character and gave it to Bugs. Clampett's Daffy was way different than McKimson's and Jones' Daffy.

It's weird because looking at it, Daffy and Bugs can both be seen as "straight men" compared to each other, while simultaneously being whacky in their own way .

@@l4zybo1 whichever one isn't the straight man at the time is the funny guy at the time. They have personalities that are normal in some ways and wacky and others. Daffy, at least in the Looney tunes show that I was growing up, was kind of jaded and a bit of a dick and bugs was more optimistic and liked to mess with people, but could also get roped into weird situations cause he just *went with it*. Did I think from my description alone you can kind of understand how either of those characters can beat a straight man or the funny guy depending on the situation

I love Daffy. When I was a kid, Quackbusters was one of those movies I watched over and over and it's still among my favorite non-Disney animated films.
"Whoohohhoohhoo!"-favorite Daffy's sentence as well as " You're despicable!". My favorite Looney Tunes characters. Otherwise I like him and as Duck Dodgers, which is really underrated cartoon. Imagine the fight of Duck Dodgers and the Duck Avenger (Donald Duck's Superhero ego). We should not forget his fight against Von Vulture and his assistant Schultz ("Schuuuuuuuuuuuuultz!") (I'm talking about propaganda cartoons during the Second World War.).
This is why I love this duck so iconic and loveable and likeable long live daffy his legacy will never be forgotten
My favorite version of Daffy Duck is when he's basically Bugs Bunny, but ABSOLUTELY OFF HIS ROCKER. Oh, I absolutely love him. Where Bugs Bunny is tormenting others on purpose because they wronged him in some way (like disturbing his home or throwing a pie in his face), Daffy does because, again, he's absolutely insane and not because he's openly and (necessarily) consciously malicious. Like in the cartoon where Daffy is the most wanted criminal in the world.....for painting moustaches all over the city. Or when he's a hotel vallet and he keeps disturbing a guest's sleep in his attempts to *help* him get some rest. Daffy is just vibing and enjoying life, and I absolutely love it
But then, they had to make him petty, dumb, vindictive and incompetent just because (in my opinion) he was too similar to Bugs Bunny. Which is ironic, because Bugs Bunny originally WAS the petty and vindictive one. The things he felt wronged for were generally very petty, like a poster being placed over his hole, not wanting his picture taken, being the hare in the "hare and the turtle" etc. , with the way he got revenge for these minor transgressions being tenfold
I can't decide which is my FAVORITE appearance (I love the trilogy, Duck Amok, Robin Hood Daffy, Duck Dodgers...), but I can tell you about the creepiest: "The Super Snooper" with the female duck the Body!

The hunting trilogy is timeless and will never not be funny, but I think the “The Great Piggybank Robbery” is my favorite Daffy short. Classic Clampett zaniness mixed with some of the most energetic animation I’ve ever seen.

It depends on the short, sometimes Daffy is just as anthropormofic as Donald, sometimes he is a duck who lives in the wilderness or a farm. And Looney Tunes also heavily used the dog- face characters, just like Disney.

Bugs Bunny: Ain't I a stinker.
If anything it exposed bugs for being a cheat and coward. He knew daffy was better then him but by making daffy lose control of his emotions would make him screw up and lead to people not liking him. Bugs would become lazy over the years not worrying about losing to daffy. But overtime people would start to like daffy more then bugs. Now daffy has returned to his roots which most people seem to like more now. This time bugs can't do nothing about it.

Also, FUN FACT: Daffy and Bugs actually first met onscreen way back in 1943 during the episode Porky Pig's Feat, where Daffy refers to Bugs Bunny as being his hero. A far cry from their future onscreen appearances

My favorite Daffy appearance is probably Duck Dodgers. I love the few times Warner has tried doing "in-universe" shows like that and Sylvester & Tweety Mysteries
I always remembered a topic I brought up about Daffy saying the duck had to take the fall when Bugs Bunny was really getting some steam; that Daffy who was the original prankster and wise guy had to take a dive for the Wabbit's popularity.

I always preferred the original, insane Daffy over his later incarnations before he came back full circle.

Duck Amuck has to be my favorite of all the cartoons starring Daffy Duck. It makes me laugh real hard!
I know Chuck Jones version of Daffy is the most well known and while I will always enjoy that take, I've always perfer Clampetts version of Daffy his wacky personality has always been hilarious.

I am astounded that I have never heard of or seen Daffy's Rhapsody before. Watching the clip, I tangibly see it encased in a Twitter post from an animation fan, talking about how "criminally underrated" it is, and how well it emulates or honors the cartooniness of the classics in CGI.

Disney productions are like the cartoons, uninteresting and visually appealing to the tots only. So bloody boring. Their strive for the almighty dollar has curbed their creativity and uniqueness. Sad to see such a good idea go by the wayside. But they have little internist in pleasing the public...just look at what they are churning out. It is a schmaltzy assembly line. A formula that has not worked in years.

Believe it or not, I actually love Daffy Duck because of his wacky and daffy personality. I really dislike Bugs Bunny because he is always sly with poor Daffy. My favourite Daffy is Duck Dodgers by the way.
Chad Brown I've never been a Bugs Bunny fan either. I've never had sympathy for a character who almost always wins against everyone, which the studio really tried to avoid by making all other characters be mean to him, making them all look worse. Never cared for his brand of humor either, but I always have liked Daffy because he's way more variable with his content.

I love the Duck Dogers TV series! Daffy showed some real growth in personality. He's still arrogant, dense, and self-absorbed. However, he acknowledges he has those flaws, feels bad about them, and actually tries to be a hero. It's also funny!
I actually really liked the looney tunes show and that version of daffy, but my single overall favorite daffy appearance, was caveman Duck.
The Daffy on The Looney Tunes Show is a mix of Chuck Jones' greedy, egotistical, pushy Daffy, and Tex Avery's and Bob Clampett's wacky Daffy.

Big Chungus is the main cornerstone for cartoon characters’ evolution genetics.
Whenever these animators or sketchers draw any character, they get this Chungus vision for a split second, then change the character forever. It’s like the God Chungus has some power to give the animators this revolutionary change for said character.
Truly an iconic and divine sign.

The Dueling Pianos scene in Who Framed Roger Rabbit is one of my absolute favorite scenes in that movie

Space Jam Daffy Duck was the best. It was a mixture of Avery and Jones description of the character. I mean when he was Dr. Daffy and have MJ that quick check up along with panting the orange Monstar (Nerdluck Pound) basketball shorts it was straight up classic slapstick. 😂💯

my favorite cartoon character even with all the stuff Chuck Jones did to him. Love what Clampett and Tashlin did with him.
For me, best Daffy Duck's personality is one under McKimson direction. I have a lot of favorite shorts from different authors, even from Chuck Jones, wich inspiration of Daffy I don't really like. Most interesting part of the character is that every animator/director gave Daffy something new, that makes him complex person, more live and close to real people.
Also I really love Daffy's character in "New Looney Tunes", when authors returned to classic zany Bob Clampett's "little black duck", but kept something from other directors. Maybe for making Daffy better you need just keep him away from Bugs and don't make him jealous and toxic.

Duck Dodgers was always my favorite Looney Tunes short, and I love the underappreciated Dodgers cartoon series. I mean, I liked the Looney Tunes Show and all, but I think it worked better as a modernized humor based LT series.

Daffy Duck is a beautiful black duck and my favorite looney tunes character. He and bugs are best friends and both being celebrated along with the fact that they both crossdress which I find fun. Ahhh thank you for making this video!

Actually, they only debuted the same year, but not the same day. Daisy debuted on January 9, 1937, while Daffy debuted on April 17.

Critically I wasn't a fan of either Space Jam or Back in Action but I did like how both movies seemed to blend the different versions of Daffy together.
One of the classic cartoons to blend his personalities is "Tom Turk and Daffy", which I believe is a Chuck Jones directed film.
Daffy is the most changed Looney Tune out of all of them. He's first introduced as a screwball and sometimes a war soldier for World War II, then he's an unlikable egomaniac who wants to end Bugs Bunny, then he's a dim-witted roommate of Bugs, and now he's a screwball again.

Daffy is my favorite cartoon character from Looney Tunes. Incredible how much did he evolved through time. My favorite version of Daffy Duck is the one from late 1930s and the 1940s, especially from the cartoons made by Bob Clampett.

To hell with the rivalry. Ever since I was a little kid, I always, ALWAYS preferred Daffy over Buggs. Buggs always got the upper hand through happenstance and luck. Daffy was a loser who SOMETIMES won, but always through effort and cunning. Daffy rules.

I like the 40s version of Daffy(aka: the ones where he's NOT greedy or trying to one-up Bugs Bunny). A perfect example of this being "Plane Daffy". One of my favorite Daffy Duck Cartoons.
