    brings back some fond memories for sure, I have had several cushman trucksters, finally got a 4 wheeled van body much more stable than the old 3 wheel design.

    I have a newer 4 wheeled one and yes they are street legal, they are classified as a motorcycle so you must have a licence and plates. Really a blast to drive. This one is alot smaller than mine but i think they are the same as far as licencing goes.

    This remembers me so much of when i was about 12 yrs old growing up in Mexico City. One day several of my friends and I were walking back from school and the municipality of where I lived had a few of these Cushman Trucksters, mainly used by gardners.
    Make a long story short one of my older friends, probably about 14 convinced us of taking it for a ":joy ride around the block", so he got it started and about 5 of us jumped in it with all of our school gear in the back of a flat bed, he takes off and all of a sudden he starts turning left and right (swerving along the road) maybe at about 25 mph I was holding on to my books and all freaking out since I had no where to hold on but laughing my ass off, probably from the nerves.
    We get back, see the gardners all pist off and about 100 meters before we got to them we bailed out and took off running, they yelled at us threatning to call the cops on us and and I turn around to look at them i saw them laughing at us.
    No one hurt and what a memorable day of my life as a kid. this was about 40 years ago.

    @722wdblazer,
    Well, somebody had to do it! Your last name would be Cushman unless you are talking about your maternal grandfather ;-) Popular rigs!

    @tinkerrbill my great grandad did alot of things but never got credit, he would make machines that were before his time, so he would sell them and ten years later some company would start using his idea,
    like the truckster, cushman was using trucks with one wheel in the back and two in the front and they had to go slow or they would tip over so he went home and spent a few days in his shop and what came out of his shop ended up in the cushman warehouse, and eventually on the production line.

    That I don't know. I figure they used to be. With turn signals, horn, brake lights, high low beams. They might have been.

    I grew up with almost this exact Cushman. I'm sorry if I am repeating the request, but are you selling it? We donated ours to someone who would restore it, but we didn't ask for a chance to get it back. I soooooooooo miss it!

      The serial number on my 1954 Truckster is stamped into the metal just in front of the clutch pedal. It's kinda hard to seen when covered with paint. Good luck.

      My '64 truckster ,with original motor, I have had up to 55 mph. But, I'm not sure that all of them go that fast. My friend in a neighboring town has had a few trucksters, older and newer than mine, but none of his would go over 40mph. Mine has a dual range rear end that could make the difference. I have a '58 thuckster like the one in this video, which is 9 hp, and the '64 which is 18 hp. I think they were intended to go 45 - 50 mph though since I kind of smoked the original engine in my '64. I did get a high performance replacement 21 hp motor ( OMC same company as the original 18hp) so, maybe I will hit 60 mph next year. I love driving my truckster through town. When I fill up at the gas station, I have heard several people say ' I'M going to register MY golf cart!' hahahahaha good luck!

      Mine is a 1954 with a 7 hp engine. I could get mine up to 28 or 29, then I leaned down to lower the wind resistance and hit 30.0 on my GPS. That was enough, the poor little thing was just about floating the valves. I don't know what the rpm was, and have never run it that hard again. I ride mine around the neighborhood every evening in the summer as it is cooling off here in Amarillo Texas. It is very comfortable about 15 to 25 mph. I live in a semi-rural area south of town, and cruise around my neighborhood waving at the people sitting in a chair on their front porch. My Cushman chair takes me all over the place, and gets a lot of attention. I ride my Truckster more than I ride my Harley Heritage Softail. I have been to Sturgis 12 times, and had the Cushman there twice when I trailered. In a sea of Harley's, a restored orange Cushman Truckster that looks new gets a lot of attention. Not from the cute girls, from the grey haired old guys that used to have one. Most fun I have ever had. Cheers.
