From what I remember, Forrest Whittaker was set to direct the film, and it was going to contrast the ideal "cartoon" '70's with the real, economically depressed 1970's. He bumped creative heads with Cosby, and several rewrites and directors later, this was the result. Good review.
The movie has just always had a certain Charm to it that I just always liked. From them doing the mannerisms that they did on the show, to the costumes being on point & The actors just catching the silly Essence of the characters. Yes, this movie could have used. Some better direction is such but it just strikes a a good cord for me 💯

Man I remember watching this movie a lot when I was younger and now that I’m older, yeah it’s bad. Honestly it wasn’t until this review pointed it out how Barbie had a similar plot, but it’s actually done better in that movie than here. Also I remember someone in the Twitch chat said Kyla Pratt looked like a female version of Julian 😆
At least Fat Albert wasn't an overrated cynical adaptation that became a cash grab, low-key shits on the IP and half of the human population, falsely advertised itself for families, and basically used this movie to continue rewriting the brand's history (akin to The Toys that Made Us episode about Barbie). It also has more heart besides its flaws. For example, if you thought Bill Cosby has a lot of baggage and found it ironic how this movie painted him in a good light, Ruth Handler was no saint either. Handler literally got away with plagiarism, stealing credits from her competitors, and done other shady things for her company besides tax fraud. Yet both Mattel and the Barbie movie still portrays her positively...
When Korey said you guys must be from the south after one of fat Albert's friend said I didnt even know u had a chain I lost it btw Korey a fool for that Bill Cosby part@ 44:28🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This was the first movie I watched before my first day of kindergarten and therefore school, here I am in high school still remembering being pissed when the cartoon scenes were so well animated but most of the film was live action.
David Gordon Green wanted to direct this film so badly, that he pleaded with Bill Cosby to let him do it. I guess he was tired of making arthouse films and wanted to make a comedy. At least he did Pineapple Express. Also, being the great filmmaker he was back in the 2000s, I think he could've done something great with this.
I still love this movie 😂 saw this when I was a kid and I loved it. After the movie mom bought a fat Albert dvd collection of the classic cartoon for me. Good memories
Had forgotten all about Fat Albert, by the time this movie came out. Then, forgot all about this movie till started watching this Bad Movie Roast. Wonder if I’m going to forget about this too. Wait, what was I talking about again?
The only bright spot in this movie was the scene where elderly Bill Cosby and the rest of his friends that inspired the Cosby Kids visit the real Fat Albert's grave and then go running off playing like they were kids again.
This movie should have been animated the whole run time. They could have done a revival series with that style of cartoon. Or like they said played it up like Barbie did!
@@Bigedub101 You already got movies like Enchanted, Rocky and Bullwinkie, The Brady Bunch Movie, Life Size 1 and 2, Masters of the Universe, Last Action Hero (with Arnold Schwarzenegger), and the live action Smurfs movies that all played up this sort of formula before. How could they not easily learn the modern dances? Their Era is the reason we dance the way we do now; if anything the way we dance is less creative and not as rhythmic.
I remember seeing this in theaters and then watching some of the 70s show right after. My parents enjoyed the animation segments because it brought back memories for them, but the film itself didn't leave much impression even as a kid. The film does have clever things about it (like the cartoon characters personalities changing as they are in the real world) and it has a decent cast. Overall, I think it would have been better to do a straight up adaptation that took place in the 70s or have a better or less bizarre way to do this fish out of water premise 🤔. Also, I agree about Doris even as a kid I found it odd that she was randomly crying at the start of the film, while her backstory about her grandfather might explain it, they still could have made the character more likable 🤔.

From what I remember, Forrest Whittaker was set to direct the film, and it was going to contrast the ideal "cartoon" '70's with the real, economically depressed 1970's. He bumped creative heads with Cosby, and several rewrites and directors later, this was the result. Good review.
We knew Kenan from “All That” and “Kenan & Kel”.
Fat Albert next to the Flintsones was my all time favorite cartoon. Watched it for many years and always had a lesson to learn from it. Great series!
_The Flintstones_ was actually really good, loved that movie as a kid.
"Hey hey hey. A start of a brand new yabba dabba day."
The reason they pick up the modern style is because as long as they are in the real world, they adapt. Throughout the whole movie, everybody's change
No, it's all lot deeper than that.,
Albert is her grandfather. Which is why she'd been sad the whole Movie because he died
Even as a kid I realized Kyla Pratt was better off being a voice actor
She was good in One on One though
How
The movie has just always had a certain Charm to it that I just always liked. From them doing the mannerisms that they did on the show, to the costumes being on point & The actors just catching the silly Essence of the characters.
Yes, this movie could have used. Some better direction is such but it just strikes a a good cord for me 💯
Yea I wouldn’t call this a ‘bad’ movie lol
Since Omarion is in this movie, I wish Double Toasted would review You Got Served next.
Perfect roast. I don’t like You Got Served very often
@@BIGCEE94
Someone needs to get You Got Served roast movement going, please!
Korey goes: “Lori is fine as hell.” As a fellow Laurie, shout out to all the Lori’s or Laurie’s out there.” Korey has spoken. We thank you! #lovedoubletoasted
Lori’s/Laurie’s for life!
"Thank youuuuu"
Yeah I also had a crush on Lori lol
She had Albert confused on why he was bricked up
Man, Korey they do drop a line for Fat Albert "Hey, Bucky, look! They still jump rope!" I think STILL is the operative word for that explanation as to how he knows these jump routines 31:46
Kenan Thompson also did a version of Bill Cosby during his days in All That when he played "The Wizard of Coz (Cos)"
I think I saw that in the chat too. I was half paying attention but I think I did see that lol.
Kyla is simply gorgeous. I remember watching her on One on One and thinking how beautiful is she 😍
I aint taking no Fat Albert slander. This movie on DVD was my go to
When Korey said you guys must be from the south after one of fat Albert's friend said I didnt even know u had a chain I lost it btw Korey a fool for that Bill Cosby part@ 44:28🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hes been doing Cosby impressions since he was 13 on All That
A few months ago i checked to see if you guys reviewed this movie. Its nice to see you did it now :D
My generation was introduced to Fat Albert when Platinum FUBU had them on the clothes.
HEY HEY HEY!! DOUBLE TOASTED ALWAYS MAKES MY DAY
Hey hey hey. Grandma, you always know just what to say.
(Grandma speaking gibberish)
This was the first movie I watched before my first day of kindergarten and therefore school, here I am in high school still remembering being pissed when the cartoon scenes were so well animated but most of the film was live action.
David Gordon Green wanted to direct this film so badly, that he pleaded with Bill Cosby to let him do it. I guess he was tired of making arthouse films and wanted to make a comedy. At least he did Pineapple Express. Also, being the great filmmaker he was back in the 2000s, I think he could've done something great with this.
That is so hilarious to me!! Cause 20 years later he’s made 3 shitty horror soft reboots 😂😂
@@hypokratesthehypocrite3513 😂😂😂 I liked the first one he did but the other two were trash with the last one being extra trash 😂😂😂😂😂
I'm a little surprised to see this on a bad movie roast. It wasn't great, but it was pretty good.
She lost her grandfather...
Give her a break 💯
Grief comes in all behavior...and does not have a time limit 💯
💯💯
What happened to the Marked For Death roast? Is still not on TH-cam.
Not even one minute in I knew the Cosby r*pe joke was coming hahaha
This was the year for Omarion and Marques Houston after this and You Got Served came out.
In the words of Chris Rock "Bill Cosby did the whole thing with a ruler, and it was excellent!"
“Does yo Daddy know you bring a n**** his coffee?”
@skyofthelivingdead "There's no boogers in it sir. It's all good sir."
Random , but seeing Omarion in the movie makes me wish they’d review You Got Served for a bad movie roast
I still love this movie 😂 saw this when I was a kid and I loved it. After the movie mom bought a fat Albert dvd collection of the classic cartoon for me. Good memories
Mine too i was heated she told me i would like this show way more than the movie she wasn’t lying I played the hell out of those dvd’s
Had forgotten all about Fat Albert, by the time this movie came out. Then, forgot all about this movie till started watching this Bad Movie Roast. Wonder if I’m going to forget about this too. Wait, what was I talking about again?
This episode did not disaapoint. HILARIOUS. I don’t care what anyone says though, I love this movie.
The only bright spot in this movie was the scene where elderly Bill Cosby and the rest of his friends that inspired the Cosby Kids visit the real Fat Albert's grave and then go running off playing like they were kids again.
Billy's laugh is 1nce again unbeaten, and untied...
No joke, I remember seeing this movie on Christmas Day at the theater with the family..... IT WAS ASS 🤣😂🤣
This movie should have been animated the whole run time. They could have done a revival series with that style of cartoon. Or like they said played it up like Barbie did!
I mean it took almost 20 more years after this to get it right.. This was the basic formula for these cartoons translated to real life
@@Bigedub101 You already got movies like Enchanted, Rocky and Bullwinkie, The Brady Bunch Movie, Life Size 1 and 2, Masters of the Universe, Last Action Hero (with Arnold Schwarzenegger), and the live action Smurfs movies that all played up this sort of formula before. Granted some of those movies weren't good, but it's still a bit of a stretch to claim that it took almost 20 years for anything to happen between Fat Albert and Barbie.
How could they not easily learn the modern dances? Their Era is the reason we dance the way we do now; if anything the way we dance is less creative and not as rhythmic.
Lmao @ fat albert and his gang had radiation poison 😅
One of my favorite Kenan thompsson SNL skits is the "whats up with that" skits.😅
52:00 *removes hat, it's Denzel Washington*
her: please put the hat back on, i'm scared
*Denzel puts the ski mask back on despondently*
When I was a kid I didn't even Kenan was on SNL. When he was promoting the movie on U-Pick Live I thought that's what he'd been working on since Kenan and Kel ended.
46:40 Well i think perhaps he knows cause at the same time albert came into the real world. He’s been watching the show and albert isn’t there cause the movie shows what’s happening while the gang was in the real world and Bill finally gets to meet his creation😢for the first and probably last time
50:31 The new Jardiance commercial
OMG!!!!! Y'all had me laughing so much through this entire video! I love this review.
Fat Albert was promoting body diversity before fat shaming even became a phrase
YESSS!! Y'all finally got to this one! Loved this back in the day and still love it to this day...but still love seein y'all tear it apart too😅
This movie was a precursor to all the live action cartoons like Korey's archenemy the Chipmunks
I agree that running part was funny ha ha
I always like the part when Fat Albert went to the clothing store in the mall n the clerk was assuming Fat Albert wanted a bunch if clothes n when he add all the clothes up at the cash register n then it came up to about a thousand some dollars n then Fat Albert told the clerk he didn't have any money n the clerk got mad n took the clothes back but but fat Albert kept the free hat lol 😂😂😂😂
the song was welcome back lol it was kinda like welcoming fat Albert back ... as the song was Mase first song back after his rap hiatus 😊
Thank you for explaining this for the Gen Z and Gen A viewers..lol
Might as well do a Bad Movie Roast on the Honeymooners Movie with Cedric the Entertainer
Hell ya! I saw the Forgotten Failures vid on that movie!
Well, I remember seeing trailers for this movie back in 2004 around the holiday season. Then I saw it in 2005.....At least it tried to have a heartfelt message or two.
This is funny as hell because I actually had the opposite experience to most people in my generation LMAOO. Im a white ass white boy who grew up watching the original Fat Albert cartoons on DVD over and over, and never saw the live action movie. That intro song brought back memories!
In my Teenage years actually remember the Fat Albert Rap cause my little brothers played the DVD to death.
The only thing I knew about fat Albert is that parody of it in the Fairly oddparents special channel chasers.
Mase's 'Welcome Back' felt more like it was used for the return of Fat Albert and the Gang returning to the common populace due to us not having seen them in anything else post the show's cancelation. I also like animated Fat Albert looking like Kenan as live-action Fat Albert.
This movie is a great movie..
Also, do any of the other kids not recognize them as the kids from the cartoon?! They theoretically could have watched the cartoon the same as the Doris character.
I love when billy start laughing
"Women are gonna be all over you"
Cosby was wrong. Because the only characters/actors in the movie that the ladies swooning were Rudy, Bill, Mushmouth, and Dumb Donald (especially since the latter was played by one of my crushes, Marques Houston.🥰 That man made my heart melt everytime I saw his picture!😍)
