  • Bright College Years is one of the traditional songs of Yale University, and the university's unofficial but undisputed alma mater. It was written to the tune of Die Wacht am Rhein in 1881 by Henry Durand.
In some old songbooks and publications, the song can be found under the name "Dear Old Yale", possibly a reference to the closing words of another popular Yale song, Neath the Elms: "Jolly, jolly are the days neath the elms of dear old Yale!"[citation needed]
During World War I and shortly afterward, Bright College Years was nearly banned for its German heritage. Yale men stationed in Paris sang it to the tune of La Marseillaise.

Guten Tag! Dr. Ludwig, I want to provide another version of Die Wacht am Rhine. I have a video about Chinese school students singing Die Wacht am Rhine in Chinese, how can I contact you so that your fans on youtube might have a look at that?

There is also a university in Japan use Die Wacht Am Rhein tunes as their alma mater/college song.
If I'm not wrong, the song's called "Doshisha College Song"

In the Philippines there is a school called "School Of The Holy Spirit" that also uses Die Wacht Am Rein's tune for it's alma mater. Maybe they use it because their founders were German

A lot of American collegiate songs and traditions had influence from German institutions - Columbia also uses Haydn's Kaiserhymne melody (which of course also became the melody for the Deutschlandlied) as their college song

During the world wars when anti-German sentiment was rife in the states, yale used the melody of Le Marseillaise in its place.
