He doesn't address Liberty signalmen who have testified the jamming of both naval communications frequencies AND the international distress frequencies.
Jamming communications equipment is an act of war. Jamming international distress frequencies is a war ctime.

Strange how you've interviewed hundreds of Israelis, and plenty of US Officials not on the Liberty, but NOT everyone who was on the Liberty itself. Also the question re calling his book the Liberty Incident question is valid, and you did not answer this question. You seeming to say that both the US and Israel were both to blame is ridiculous. What were the US at fault for? Did they shoot and torpedo themselves?. You also seem to omit facts like they were in international waters, the lack of anyone firing on the ship really try to identify the ship themselves. Why cant you just be honest and admit the Israelis were at fault and should have admitted it straight away and helped the families and survivors etc.

"his interviews with all then-living individuals directly involved in the incident"
    That is pure unadulterated bullshit.
Cristol interviewed few -- if any -- USS Liberty survivors. It would be a long row to hoe to argue the position that USS Liberty survivors should not be included in the list of "all then-living individuals directly involved".
His reason for not interviewing USS Liberty survivors? Because we are too close to the incident and that fact would color our testimony.
The logical question following that statement is why didn't that remove the Israeli participants from the list of individuals that should be interviewed? After all, they were as close to the incident as we were and they are the ones who are accused of committing War Crimes during their attack on the USS Liberty. Wouldn't those facts tend to color the testimony of the Israeli participants?
    Apparently Cristol doesn't think so.
Perhaps he has the hidden agenda he accuses us of having.

Hasbara served by Cristol/Israel no longer has its effect in this time of peoples' greater access to information. Anyone that's heard the testimony of USS Liberty survivors and has read The Moorer Report knows the attack on Liberty is one of the worst crimes and longest-running cover-ups in history. Truth is on the side of the LVA and, one day, so too will be justice.

Dean Rusk, U.S. Secretary of State at the time of the incident, wrote:
“I was never satisfied with the Israeli explanation. Their sustained attack to disable and sink Liberty precluded an assault by accident or some trigger-happy local commander. Through diplomatic channels we refused to accept their explanations. I didn't believe them then, and I don't believe them to this day. The attack was outrageous.”

    1) A mistake?Israel is on record identifying the Liberty during a recognizance in the morning, and prior to the commencing the attack.
2)There are several points which can made to argue the US Israeli relationship is not mutually beneficial to the US. For one, obviously, Israel has no oil, unlike it’s Arab neighbors and drives up the cost. And of course the Palestinians. I could go on and on. The Liberty attack is important because it shows how little Israel cares.
3.The US didn’t want Israel to go to war at that time.
    4. The initial Navy investigation was a joke. They didn’t interview anyone other than the Captain who went along. They threatened the service men to not even tell their families.

How does America's relationship with Israel benefit the United States? There is no strategic value in Israel for the United States. If anything, the United States has more to value with a relationship with Saudi Arabia because of oil or Egypt because of the Suez Crisis.

    • @CaesarInVa
      @CaesarInVa 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

You're evaluating the relationship in the light of contemporary times. You need to turn the clock back 50 years. At that time, the most important (in terms of strategic oil resources) region in the world (to an industrialized economy such as the United States) was on the verge of falling into the Soviet orbit. Syria, Jordan, Egypt and I believe Libya (possibly Iraq as well, but don't quite me on that) were all very heavily influenced (and militarily equipped) by the Soviet Union. Turkey was walking a delicate balancing act between the two super powers and didn't want to get caught straddling the high-wire. Saudi Arabia was closely aligned with the US, but had to be careful not to be seen too pro-US. By virtue of the process of elimination, there was really only one country in the eastern part of the Mediterranean that we could consider suitable as an ally, and that was Israel. The really ironic thing is that Israel was pretty close to a communist state, given the kibbutz and collectivist living, but the State Department and the media were careful to downplay that inconvenient embarrassment. Anyway, 50 years later, now that we are on the verge of breaking our dependency on foreign fuel, that strategic alliance between Israel and the US isn't quite as imperative as it once was; in another ten years, it might not even exist at all.

John Haddon also collected plant samples around Israel’s Dimona complex that confirmed the Israeli’s had stolen enriched uranium from the NUMEC plant in Apollo, Pennsylvania. This uranium was likely fabricated into nuclear weapons before the 1967 war. Israel had planned to use nuclear weapons as a doomsday device in the Sinai if the war went bad and the Egyptians were about to invade Israel. I think the Israelis feared the Liberty might have intercepted communications regarding the disposition of these weapons.

I don't know about anyone else, but as for myself, the thought that our communications were so f'd up that ships could be sailing around missing numerous messages (including nuclear submarines and other first-line, nuclear deterrent forces that could have been missing launch orders and other important signals) is much more disconcerting than the thought that LBJ or the Israelis (or both) were up to some sinister machinations. Several investigations conducted into the incident by the U.S. Navy, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the CIA, the U.S. House and Senate, the NSA, and the Israeli government. All investigations into the matter similarly blamed lack of communications and found no reason for anyone involved to face criminal charges.
American inquiries, memoranda, records of testimony, and various reports involving or mentioning the Liberty attack include, but are not limited to, the following:
U.S. Naval Court of Inquiry of June 1967
Joint Chief of Staff's Report of June 1967.
CIA Intelligence Memorandums of June 1967
Clark Clifford Report of July 1967
Senate Foreign Relations Committee Testimony during hearings of the 1967 Foreign Aid Authorization bill, July 1967
House Armed Services Committee Investigation of 1971
The NSA History Report of 1981
The U.S. Naval Court of Inquiry record contains testimony by Liberty crew members, exhibits of attack damage photographs, and various reports. The court concluded that the testimony record revealed "a shallow investigation, plagued by myriad disagreements between the captain and his crew". According to the Navy Court of Inquiry's record of proceedings, four days were spent hearing testimony: two days for fourteen survivors of the attack and several U.S. Navy expert witnesses, and two partial days for two expert U.S. Navy witnesses.

Only some sailors said that. Sailors are deeply traumatized by the death of their comrades, and affected by their beliefs.

We love Israel. We want the best for the Jewish state of Israel, now established in the land of Israel, the land that once held all 12 tribes of Israel.
Evangelical Christians are lovers and supporters of the Jewish people of Israel, - and also the Arabs and Palestinians. We love and support the people on both sides, but not necessarily their political rulers or their secret service activities. Nor do we hold them up to be pillars of virtue and to be supported in everything they do.
And why? Because the Judeo-Christian people, (who we are supposed to despise BTW), are the people of JACOB. Yes, the Jewish House of Israel, and the European non-Jewish House of Israel are both the people of the 12 tribes of that tricky shyster Jacob.
Jacob is not perfect. He is still wrestling with the Angel of God. His people, and those from every nation, grafted in or adopted in to All Israel as a Congregation-Commonwealth, are a spiritual house. They are a swelling company of redeemed people from both houses of Israel, and beyond, all of them on a journey to the Holy City. We are a global company of people on a pilgrimage to becoming Israel, “prince and contender with God.” This is the deep spring story of holy history as it unfolds on this planet.
So are there bad apples in the barrels of both houses of Israel? And do they occasionally do naughty things like the assassinations started by Mrs. Golda Meier? Do they plan and commit unlawful nefarious deeds, and then use their mainstream media and their technocrats to tell lies and censor the truth about what really went on?
We could count of a dozen instances right off the bat. There was the attack on the USS Liberty during the IsraeliArab war in 1967. Here is the story on that.
    th-cam.com/video/vyiP1tUOxig/w-d-xo.html
When all these strange events are researched a pattern of lies and deception emerges. We see shenanigans perpetrated in both the Western superpowers and in the present state of Israel. As we saw in the attack on the USS Liberty, the two often work together in collusion to achieve their respective objectives.
Do the means justify the ends? Well, the fourth vow Jesuits think so. And the bad apples in our respective governments seem to think so as well.
So how can we move forward in our present nation-states without war and discord if we are found to be in a godless Mafiosi style state of corruption? How can we continue to remain under the blessings of the God of Israel, (who loves us dearly), if He becomes Someone we do not want to get too close to?
    So we continue to pray.
We pray for the Peace of Jerusalem.
And we pray that Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, the Savior and coming Deliverer of Israel, will be invited into human hearts everywhere.
Will good overcome evil at the end of the saga? Well, as we survey the ongoing story from Genesis to Revelation the answer is quite clear. And it is “Yes!”
