Hey fellow investors! In this video I show you how to turn those pesky visa gift cards you get as gifts or from surveys into cash into your checking account. The whole process only takes a few minutes and is super simple to follow! This way you don't have to worry about trying to spend the whole balance of the giftcard or worry about losing the gift card in the meantime. This is a super simple tutorial and you can do the same process with paypal (as shown in the video) or with venmo.

If you don't want to create a second account as talked in the video, you can also add the gift as a payment method to your account and then send the balance to a friend and have the friend refund the money. From there you can just send/deposit it into your bank account then. The money can be in your account instantly (with paypal and paying another 1% fee) or within 1 to 2 days. This method is the lowest fees and fastest method to turn the gift card into cash.

next time do this in a closet, of course there will be an echo in this video, because you are doing it in a hall, which is great if you had the mic close to you with a Foam Ball on it... but anyone complaining about the ECHO in this video isn't here to learn. This worked perfectly! Thank you. There is also opportunity cost to consider. If I have a credit card that I would usually use which gives me 2 or 3 percent cash back, the real cost of cashing out the card could be as little as 0.5-1.5% or less. Also the interest one could be earning on the cashed out amount could far outweighed the fee.
I 100% agree! Too many people focus on paying the small fee that they don't think it's worth it, but I completely agree with your logic! Plus I tend to get the "money burning a hole in my pocket" feeling with a visa giftcard with money on it or I misplace it around the house.

Joseph Diefenbach I used two personal PayPal accounts. One I’ve had a long time that I’ve used for eBay (has been dormant for quite a while) and the other I had signed up for with my personal email a couple years back.

Confirming this works as of June 2021. my husband had a paypal so i didnt have to create two paypal accounts. but it surely worked.

I linked two cards that show up in my wallet but when I try to send money it says I have to link a card.
1 of the account has to complete the verification process fully sending your I'd picture in etc and adding a bank account

2) Does this work at all, with OTHER types of gift cards - eg store cards, Google Play cards, I don't know, Steam or XBox cards? 🙂
I am from the UK btw.
I was also wondering about the 2 accounts part but you can’t link Xbox cards or anything like that, their is a app that allows you the exchange gift cards for other ones tho. Highly subset doing that if you have a spare Xbox or google play store card.
For Virtual Visa Cards(doesn't have to be a physical card) you can deposit it into your account in the same day by first making a Square account and adding that Virtual Visa Card to Square then use the Virtual Terminal section to deposit that card to where you want. Including the fees. So ask for a Virtual Visa Card instead of a Visa Gift Card if you need it even within the hour.

I have a virtual gift card but my dumbass selected Mastercard lol. Will this still work with master card? I don’t have a bank account at the moment but I have CashApp, Venmo, and PayPal. Any info would be helpful. I used to sell my physical visa gift cards at a cash store and always had to swipe. I’ll call tomorrow and see if they can do it with all the card info without the physical card.

I tired this method today but it was showing on PayPal that i need to activate the gift card. But the only way is to enter the CODE they sent from the card statement. So it didn’t work out. Do anybody know how to solve that??? THANKS

Can you take the giftcard into the bank and simply deposit it? I called chase and a rep told me I can do this but I am not sure as I have not tried it yet.
It worked but only let me use it 3x then it won’t let me do it anymore I’m not sure if I got flagged for it. And I wasn’t sure if I’m suppose to use my original name because all I did was use a different email but it’s the same name, and billing address as my other PayPal.
So what if I got the gift card as gift, and I do all this will I have to pay taxes? Would it come up on my 1099 though it's gift and I transfer it as friends and family

So when I did this it worked with my visa gift card but only ONLINE. This will not work on the app (my experience). I also found that it is not working with my pre-paid mastercard. Any tips? (September 8th, 2022)

Both accounts don’t have to be in your name. You could have a friend help you out and add the debt card to their account to send to you

the ones who this works for are yall using physical cards or virtual? i couldn't get my virtual to work kepts saying declined. i was able to confirm it with Paypal but the card issuer would decline it when id try to send to my other paypal
