we need to remember this was top 20 worldwide. those groups & artists are great in the US however perhaps not worldwide. Newwave & punk & tid bits of america were world wide. just like the 60's 80's did have a very english overtone or down right english invasion to some degree. so yeaaa
Agree. And wonder why Madonna's Holiday or Borderline and Material Girl and Crazy For You did not make it to the Top 20 in its respective year and why Michael Jackson's Billie Jean is not the no. 1 hit for 1982, that was a very popular disco song in that year.
When listen to these great hits in 80s I had very pleasant feeling I wish go back to these days . What wonderful days was. Wish all who enjoy in these days the best in their lives. Thanks for this 80s gift ☺

@@dougieb4450 I didn't call him the king. MJ is the king but George deserves some credits. By the way, he started in 1984 while MJ was around since the 70's. Yet George managed to have 10 mentions.
You mean Whitney and Maria slaying it. Only thing Madonna was slaying were the stage dancers, oh and the lighting techs, and audio techs, and the makeup artists, and the couriers, and the.... well you get the idea.
@@WayPastCrazy2525 Not really. Vogue is the 3rd most popular song by a female singer from the 90's behind Whitney's I Will Always Love You and Celine's My Heart Will Go On. Her Blonde Amtion Tour was claimed the most iconic and influential tour of the 90's. Her Oscar performance is still one of the most memorable. Ray of Light album is higher than any Whitney or Mariah albums in all Best Albums lists. Her music speaks by itself
@@WayPastCrazy2525Madonna has tons of songs on the 90s list and the 2000s list, Madonna has the most songs of anyone. She dominated the worldwide charts until 2009
This chart is based on the Global Charts Year End Charts for each year. It seems those songs along with Madonna "Crazy For You" and "Material Girl" unfortunally never make it to the Global Year End Top 20 in any year.
I think of all the years in the decade 1983 was a banner year. One phenomenal hit after another by some major talents. MJ Madonna Prince Tina Duran Duran, Stevie and Hall and Oates chart topping in the same year. Iconic defined.
It’s very accurate! I just knew that 1989 would end with Madonna’s Like A Prayer at #1! God I love all the songs! It’s just incredible! The 80s rocked! Not a bad song in my book! All classics now! Great memories! I haven’t paid any attention to the charts in at least the last 10 years! All the streaming and downloading and changing of the rules constantly! The „artists“ come and go! It’s a joke! And I really don’t care anymore! I feel sorry for the kids now, who didn’t grow up with singers, bands who actually made people buy physical records in the millions!
Best music decade ever..❤️ look at all that talent.. So many legends are dead too 😔 But this is my teenage soundtrack.. I listen to this kind of music everyday.. and I will do it for the rest of my life..
I remember how many hits Madonna and Micheal Jackson both had but had forgotten just how many Phil Collins had during that decade. Of course, this is worldwide so it's possible just the US charts would have been different.
born in mid 80's, grow up through 90's, start to appreciate old music in early 2000's. cant beat the classics from 50's to mid 90's. i still listen to some modern music (and metal. yeah baby :D ), but prefer older one .
FLASHBACK FRIDAY: I was born in 1979. I remember all of 1983 & parts of 1982 musicaly. 84-89 are solid memories. This was a fun period for music & for discovery. Everything was everything. No black/white, no rock/RnB. It was all music. I miss that innocence. I also miss this creativity & passion offered in music!
OMG it was so much fun being alive in the 80"s. I was 12 yo when I first heard a Madonna song on the radio and by the end of that year she was everywhere. I haven't seen anything like it since. I liked this countdown. I also am a fan of Laura Branigan. I was surprised that Gloria wasn't included in 1982. It was a smash hit then, bigger than self control.
@@dougieb4450 it really has. It's so sad. For anyone of these ladies to be able to express themselves and still own their sexuality is bc of her. She took all the hits and names called. Hell banned and almost arrested in some places. For doing what Micheal and Prince did constantly and called heroes. Bc she was a woman it was different. Telling women they can be sexy and a genius.
I saw a video of an ‘unplugged’ performance by JM... he was singing (not lip sync) live without any digital processing for pitch correction (the tech that now allows any bozo to sing on a recording)... when he sang ‘Careless Whisper’ practically ‘a cappella’... wow. Chills.
@@locohobo1925 people dogged him for using sound effects on true faith he did that because he liked the sound not because he lost his talent I mean for a man who a tracheotomy his voice was not damaged George sounds as great live as on record that makes him vulnerable to haters
Queen were held back because by 1984, they'd lost a lot of their USA and Canadian popularity. It helped Singles to do better in the World Charts, if they were doing well in North America. Although Boney M, were so big outside North America, that they didn't need, to have Hits there. In 1984, Queen's 'Radio Ga Ga' only reached No.16 in the US and No.11 in Canada. 'I Want To Break Free' was No.45 in the US and No.26 in Canada. 'One Vision' was No.61 in the US and No.76 in Canada. 'A Kind Of Magic' was No.42 in the US and No.64 in Canada. 'I Want It All' was No.50 in the US and No.34 in Canada. 'Innuendo' failed to Chart in both Countries. As did 'I'm Going Slightly Mad' and several other, 1984 to 1991, North American Queen Singles. Queen did not become popular again, in the US and Canada, until 1992, when the Re-Issued 'Bohemian Rhapsody' made No.2, in the US and No.18 in Canada. They have also sold, Millions of 'Hits' Albums, in North America, since 1992...
@Naranja Mecanica No one "puts" the songs in. It is all based on points based on chart success. It is very possible for a song to score in two consecutive years if it hit the chart late in the first year.
You are shirt if a few big ones. And some were repeats. Karma Chameleon? Whitney? Janet? Prince? Thriller? Walk like an Egyptian, Bette Davis Eyes, George Michael? 99luft balloons ? Take on me? All just hit me for starters . What's live got to do with it? Paula Abdul? New Kids on the Block ? I could go on and on. That being said, thank you for this. It brightened my day.
The late 80s(1985 - 1989) were just as great as the early part of the 80s.. I noticed alot of artists and groups from the 50s 60s and 70s were still producing great music in the 80s..thats what made the 1980s the last great decade for decent meaningful clean good REALmusic...before it changed alot when the 90s came around which to me was ok .
@@arkusalto2044 Material Girl was a flop and received a lot of bad criticisms back then. They hated on Madonna for ripping off Marilyn Monroe. Madonna only got huge when she released Like A Virgin. However, Material Girl became legendary later on in history as Madonna became iconic as well.

@@irina1296 bc he doesn't have the most. Lol he can be prince of pop ro britneys princess?
@@dougieb4450 I didn't call him the king. MJ is the king but George deserves some credits. By the way, he started in 1984 while MJ was around since the 70's. Yet George managed to have 10 mentions.
American taste (or the lack of it) screwed up a lot of the 80s. Bland sells best in the US..

Awesome. Madonna really did rule the decade! Thanks for this video!
80s are the best better than today’s crap
90s
Pennyfish 90s lol that’s funny the 90s isn’t anywhere close to the 80s music
Bish 70's
Go and have you ears syringed!
They were proper artists mj at his best also bang 2 saucepans together today for a number 1 hit today music is garbage
I turned 14 in 1980. I think I won the prize. The absolute best decade of music. Period.
You should make top 20 worldwide hits of the 1990 - 1999! Can't wait to see Whitney and Madonna slaying again
Yurii Blendonohy 90s SHOULD NEVER EXISTED WORST DECADE FOR EVERYTHING AND CONTINUOUSLY NOW AND FOREVER 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
@@WayPastCrazy2525 haha Mariah was only USA
Madonna in the 90s was a worldwide success
@@WayPastCrazy2525Madonna has tons of songs on the 90s list and the 2000s list, Madonna has the most songs of anyone. She dominated the worldwide charts until 2009
Just a magical decade. Nothing will ever compare to it!
Madonna got two songs of the year, truly the Queen of Pop music!
And number 4 too three of the top 5 That takes some doing 🎧🎧🎧
There were so many beautiful songs in the 80s that it may have been forgotten to sort or list but the effort has been made. 👍
Wonderful Chart! You were missing Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time" and "True Colors"
This chart is based on the Global Charts Year End Charts for each year. It seems those songs along with Madonna "Crazy For You" and "Material Girl" unfortunally never make it to the Global Year End Top 20 in any year.
Just the variety of songs and icons alone, the 80’s is hard to beat.
I think of all the years in the decade 1983 was a banner year. One phenomenal hit after another by some major talents. MJ Madonna Prince Tina Duran Duran, Stevie and Hall and Oates chart topping in the same year. Iconic defined.
Brilliant 80’s, brilliantly put together
1980-1981 feels like a transition period in music with some leftovers from the 70s. 1982 is when you can feel the 80s sound kick in.
True
At the end of the day, lets us all just admire these artists instead of comparing them to whos better. Long live and rip to these legends!
80's had great music! And the 90's!
I was a teen in the 60;s but the 80's are my favorite decade for music. Wish I could go back there and stay.
The world is not the same without George

Who's fault is it, George's own lust for coke, and other drugs.Life is a bitch.

I agree! Its not really fair for ppl to call artists flops now if they sell like only 2mill hardcopies worldwide when downloading and iTunes exists
Music at this time was deep, intense, strong and just GREAT!
Please, upload the 1970's Top 20. I love almost every of these hits. :)
High school memories, mostly sweet memories. Miss my parents now.
I doubt that this is worldwide. That's just the title. This is based on Billboard.
I agree. Gotta also include George Michael, too. He had a pretty long run which I would consider WHAM! as him.
@@reinebautistamercado4286 You sure? I don't think the Pet Shop Boys had so many hits in the US.
Phil Collins had do many hits in Holland and I heard his songs also at other countries 😃👌

I was thinking the same thing... this list has more of a UK-perspective feel to it.
The 80's had some BADASS & KICKING ASS MUSIC
George Michael (with and without Wham!) and Whitney Houston!!!
Those were the days...I miss the 80s...
Boy I missed the 80's boy I wish.we can go back. Darn the 80's had BADASS, KICKINGASS, & ROCKINGASS MUSIC
born in mid 80's, grow up through 90's, start to appreciate old music in early 2000's. cant beat the classics from 50's to mid 90's. i still listen to some modern music (and metal. yeah baby :D ), but prefer older one .
I agree. Today's music cant beat the old classics
George Michael is a great great star forever !!!
Definitely.
Love from Romania to everyone listening to this songs
FLASHBACK FRIDAY: I was born in 1979. I remember all of 1983 & parts of 1982 musicaly. 84-89 are solid memories. This was a fun period for music & for discovery. Everything was everything. No black/white, no rock/RnB. It was all music. I miss that innocence. I also miss this creativity & passion offered in music!
Excellent compilation! Thank you 💞

Yes me too
OMG it was so much fun being alive in the 80"s.
Fantastic 80s!
Iam listening this music in 2020 and remembering the 80s for ever from Tijuana.

@@dougieb4450 it really has. It's so sad. For anyone of these ladies to be able to express themselves and still own their sexuality is bc of her. She took all the hits and names called. My heart hurts every time I see George~

Many Queen songs missing, especially in '84
Queen were held back because by 1984, they'd lost a lot of their USA and Canadian popularity.
@@stevetimms4100 - This list is supposed to be "Worldwide", not specific to just North America
A huge hit song can make the Top 20 of two different years if it charted at the end of the first year.
Many of the artists you listed weren't huge worldwide, this is a worldwide list
Michael Jackson= legend 🤗👍
I like the music before 1985, early 80' the best
the whole decade was awesome
The late 80s(1985 - 1989) were just as great as the early part of the 80s.. I noticed alot of artists and groups from the 50s 60s and 70s were still producing great music in the 80s..thats what made the 1980s the last great decade for decent meaningful clean good REALmusic...before it changed alot when the 90s came around which to me was ok .
70s too !
Madonna did that
