    Thank you for sharing your knowledge with all of us. I was a nervous assistant scoutmaster until I started watching your videos. Thank you.

      I'm so glad that I could help. No need to be nervous anymore. Go with confidence and guide your young people towards greater things. Thank you for contributing to our community. Always remember we're changing the world one scout at a time. YIS⚜

    Love the videos. The uniform doesn’t show what an individual has to bring to a unit. The individual shows what they bring. I’m an Eagle Scout and Scoutmaster and my uniform stays slick. Knots and doo dads don’t matter. Performance does.

      Thank you for expressing your point of view. I agree that what an individual brings to a unit is more important than what they have on the uniform. Although, as an Eagle Scout you have the knot doo-dad on your uniform for a reason. Fellow leaders and youth look up to you as an example. I'm not advocating that Scoutmasters should look like some kind of Christmas tree. But if you earned the doo-dad knot, wear it. Thank you for jumping into the discussion and I look forward to more input about any video on the channel. YIS⚜

      When I relinquished my Scoutmaster position years ago, one of my strongest Assistant Scoutmasters became our Scoutmaster three years later. He served as SM for ten years. In all those years, he earned many recognitions including the District Award of Merit. He never wore a single knot on his uniform. I consider that a tragedy. Both his sons became Eagle Scouts. His focus was always on our troop members. He was an excellent SM, Roundtable Leader, and Council Planning Committee Member. I took a 17 year sabbatical, and a year ago, I was convinced to return as SM. My goal is to get him back into our troop. I will insist he wear his accomplishments above his left pocket. He earned those knots, and he should be proud to wear them just as we are proud to wear the uniform. I may have my work cut out for me to convince him to wear his knots. Not everybody knows how experienced my friend is, and the knots help tell a story of the strength of our adult leaders.

      @randyjackson864 - Inspiring comeback! It would be a shame if it was hidden behind a plain shirt that told no story and failed to inspire anyone. Thank you so much for stepping up again as we need you both. Remind the reluctant Scouter that the first Scout Law is “Trustworthy” and that goes for the uniform appearance. It's a little strong handed but it's something to think about. Keep up the good work. YIS⚜

    The Unit Leader Award of Merit is different/successor to the previous Scoutmaster’s Award of Merit (white on white knot). Is a prior recipient of the Scoutmaster’s Award of Merit who is currently a Scoutmaster eligible to wear the Scoutmaster Patch with Star? Or would that Scoutmaster need to earn the Unit Leader Award of Merit as Scoutmaster to wear the Scoutmaster patch with star?

    • @ScouterStan
      @ScouterStan  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you're correct that their two different awards. However, it's not clear that the position patch with the star is exclusively linked to the Unit Leader Award of Merit. Scoutmaster’s Award of Merit is only for Scoutmasters and should qualify for the Scoutmaster position patch with the star. I think the adult awards are continuously being narrowed down. This is truly unfortunate as the individual story of the uniform gets muted and harder to read. Most _“uniform police”_ will get all crazy about this, but I believe if it's not absolutely clear there's room for interpretation in this case. YIS⚜

    You can trust your troop to the leader who wears the star…

    If you have multiple device pins in your knots is the a better way to keep the device in place other than a ‘frog’ to keep it on?

    • @ScouterStan
      @ScouterStan  ปีที่แล้ว

      There are replacement rubber backings that don’t easily come off. Sometimes the pin can be bent over and hooked back in like a staple, but it could break off from the welding. I got a bag of 50 rubber “frogs” for less than $2 with shipping off the internet. They stay on by a really tight suction created by the inserting of the pin. Amazingly it really works. YIS⚜

    Can you do a video on knots that’s youth can wear

    • @ScouterStan
      @ScouterStan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of the square knots are intended for adult uniform use. The most common youth knot is the youth religious award. Youth are also allowed to wear the heroism knots. Other than that, they're not really intended to be worn by a youth. Thank you for the suggestion I will put it on the whiteboard. YIS⚜
