ANOTHER SILVERADO SMASH!! PICKUP REAR ENDS SEMI THEN ROLLS 400 YARDS INTO A CORN FIELD!!

- Hello Ladies & Gentlemen and as always, thank you for watching!!! Today, we are called to a very unique, challenging situation. A Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck apparently rear-ends a semi truck on the Interstate, then leaves the roadway, rolls multiple times according to witnesses, and lands on its wheels over 400 yards off the interstate. There is no direct access for our trucks, and, even if there were, the ground is too soft. We pull out all of the main winch line on our Century 1150R rotator towing and recovery vehicle, and use every Yankum Rope, every red endless loop sling, every flat strap, every clevis, and every RimSling I have just to be able to reach the truck in the corn field. We also get to test our new EarTec EVADE headsets. Crystal-clear even at the distance we were having to work. A fun challenge and, also, you get to meet a new member of the crew!!! I hope you all enjoy this video!!! Thanks for watching and God bless!!!

My common analogy, "there are many ways to reach 10". I could have approached this (any) job several different ways. The approach method is important, but more important is achieving the desired result, safely.
Again, a very special thank you to all my viewers, family, and friends who having taken the time to show their support. May God bless and protect you all!!!

“We’re you listening to anything I said” has to be the best part of this
I like how you started the video with "You go down and scout it out, I'll stay here" and then you went down with Brad to help scout :)
Don't send a bloke where you don't want to go yourself.
One person will see something someone else misses.
I don't remember him ever asking anyone to go somewhere he would not go. That's a not the way Ron. Wofrks.
That truck must have been "flying" to go that far after hitting a semi!
It's nice to hear you explain many of the tips and tricks to these young men. The rest of us learn stuff we'll never need, too :)
@@Neamerjell 💯 ...' Learning stuff I will never need to use' 🤔💬 ... I am not that quick to dismiss what I learn about these big recovery companies ... I enjoy learning something new every day, and I think it is cool, and informative watching these AWESOME videos ... and several times, in these videos, Ron Pratt has said the driver made it out, with only a few minor scrapes and scratches ... on some of these, I am very surprised! 😯
This would be a good time for a medium farm tractor turned into recovery vehicle
It's incredible to see how much energy a car of that size has when driving at highway speed.
I would have never imagined it going that far into a field after a crash, especially after rolling.
Chances are the engine was still running until it ran out of fuel.
Chevy...like a rock 😂
Norm Abram on the New Yankee Workshop "You can never have too many clamps" . In your case "You can never have to many ropes/slings". Greetings from Leicestershire UK.
could of called the video ""Silverado of the Corn" but I'm not sure how many people would get the joke name. Great job Ron and crew. Must of been a pain lugging your rigging out that far.
Lol I did one of Stephen Kings movies he sold the rights to.
I was thinking chevy of the corn
I get that.Steven King reference.
Don't suppose this towing company ever goes after a red 58 Plymouth Fury.
At least he has the winch to drag it all back to the truck...
😄😁😆😅😂🤣
Ron is fishing yet again, this might be his furthest catch yet, at least the beast was tired out and did not struggle
Great job! Welcome to the team Brad! That sucker was far out. You could’ve switched lines and re spooled each winch 😂
New kid gets a thumbs up. Seems to pay attention AND wears his hard hat. "Try to minimize damage to the corn" Typical of you Ron, concern for the farmers loss. At two ears per stalk, that was a substantial loss for that farmer. One crazy question. Why not have Brad jump in the bed of the pickup and stow the soft shackles and Yank-em ropes in the bed on the way in??
I'm just guessing, but that would have put Brad in a direct line with the cable / ropes. If one should fail, the recoil would send it right over the truck.
The concern is always appreciated, but just so nobody feels worse than necessary, it looks like the truck went about 120-150ft into the field, if none of the corn under it survived it's only about a $20-25 loss (about $1000/acre, an acre is one chain (66ft) by one furlong (660ft aka 1/8 mile) for 43560 sqft)
It's so nice to see you & Ethan working together as much as you do. Miss seeing Talon & Mike, your sidekicks from the past tho. Mike was learning "the Pratt fall" pretty well.
Another great job of teaching the younger generation the trade.
@Ron Pratt ,
Thank you for another interesting and educational video.
For a good while now, I've wanted to say how much I appreciate you leaving your text notes on the screen long enough for us to read them in real time! (No stopping, slowing, or rewind required 👍👍)
Brother is already at half a million subscribers my favorite tower and towing TH-camr and the absolute best on TH-cam in my opinion.
Keep working hard brother stay safe teach your son the ropes and God Bless all of you guys 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Welcome to the team, Brad! You will have the best experience of your career working with them. For liability reasons, you probably couldn't have the farmer just bring out a tractor. That did not look like a fun job, but another challenge conquered. Please stay safe, and God bless.
I was thinking that as well, that’s how we used to do it.
Welcome aboard Brad Ron Pratt and family are a good crew to work for Ron will teach you and educate you on safety and proper towing
Would’ve been the simplest. With no insurance etc.
Trying to find the farmer for that piece of land could take longer than just doing the recovery yourself. On those big farms, nobody is usually around most of the time.😊
@@julielumsden5184 yes and one of the first things Ron Pratt notice when he arrives on scene with the rotator is the power lines up Above
I hope Brad works out for you. It would be nice to see someone working for you with a bit of initiative. I miss Raymond, he was an awesome worker.
Have you considered painting the cable and marking a 3-6 foot section where you would want to stop pulling to ensure you leave enough wraps on the drum? Maybe even with 1ft marks indicating a countdown till the stop section for minimum wraps?
The wire rope has oil/grease on it to prevent rusting and binding. It's unusual to deploy that much cable from the drums.
@@bushmaster2936 yeah and because it doesnt get unwrapped that much often the cable want to hold its memory of being wrapped around the drum
Always love watching your retrievals. Plus you have a good narrative voice.
that must have been some serious cardio. Glad you guys got it out and the drivers safe! As always great job Ron! And may God bless you and keep you safe!
Greetings from the UK on a Friday lunchtime. Thank you Ron and team for these treats every week to look forward to. God bless and stay safe.
awesome job Mr Ron and help God bless you all ✝️ stay safe out there 👍👍👍👍👍 prayers for the driver 🙏
Wow that was just too crazy there Ron with all of that rigging. It was amazing that you had enough to get that truck out. You said that the truck was way out there. You was not kidding lol. The one thing i learned is that Our Lord provides for us when we need him too. He always comes thru for his children. God Bless each and everyone of you guys.
Headsets are a great investment! What a job!
Welcome to the team, Brad.
A big welcome to Brad.
Pickup v Semi rarely ends up in the pickup's favor.
Amazing to think that that pickup could go that far! Was he speeding? Or, he must have hit that semi pretty hard. Ron, Brad and Ethan, excellent job. Stay safe guys.
Part of it was how fast he was going at impact (Force = Mass x Velocity), but I'm betting the engine was still running when the truck landed on it's wheels that last time and it continued to drive farther into the field until the engine died...
🙏🙇🙏 Prayers for the driver of the Chevy Silverado ... and prayers for a speedy recovery ... My thoughts are with the driver, another AWESOME job, Ron Pratt, and company 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Well, Ron, you and the boys sure earned your corn with this one!!! An 'amaizing' recovery. Well done. A suggestion for another 'long distance' job. How about putting a cone as a marker for where the winch-line ends as a guide for where the hook needs to go back to for the next pull. Shame about the batteries, but these things happen. Greetings from the UK. God bless.
That was my thought to. Plenty of bollards on the truck, unless they are out on the road which is the first priority.
Welcome to Brad, and he appears to be a great addition. That recovery took awhile due to the distance. Another fine job by all of you. STAY SAFE OUT THERE.
Trapping a short hardwood dowel into the knots can make them easier to get apart by loosening them when you remove the dowel.
Brad is more willing to work than some others, he doesn't have his hands in his pockets.
For separating the slings afterwards, you need a good marlin spike. I used to have a pocket knife with one on it, I would tell people it was used for getting boy scouts out of horses hooves!! Great job as always!
Thank you for that, "You know what I mean Vern?" reply, it brought back memories of my mom (RIP) saying that to me lol
When you link to loops together like that, put a piece of blocking or something between the ends so that they cannot pull -tight- and nest into a knot. will make it much easier to get them apart later, and less likely to friction-weld to each other.
Cable yarders generally have a strawline winch with a light cable to drag out the heavy rigging. Think that sometimes you need one also.
Since there was probably little likelihood of payment on this job and considering that it was in a farmer's crop, would it have made sense to contact the farmer and allow him to weigh in on the recovery? It might have worked out that he/she might have chosen to drag it out with a tractor saving you a lot of time and trouble.
and possibly more of his crop as well !
That’s about the longest tow that I’ve ever seen you do Ron. It made for a long day too. But you did a great job as usual. 👍❤️
Ron just a quick question is there a way to incorporate the headsets in to the video so we can hear the other side of the conversation
That for sure is the longest tow I have ever seen you do! I have one question. How fast was that guy going to end up that far from where he left the road? I understand flipping but I think he made it to another county! Good job as always.
I saw 2 or 3 tows so far out, the drum on his winch was out as far as he felt safe doing. Even then he neeeded a couple lengths of chain for eben more length. One in particul he was rescuing a telehandler that had partially dug itself in soft muddy dirt.
He was likely going 'highway speed' so 60-80mph.
Ron, could you of asked the owner of the land, if they could have helped?
Definitely didn't flip that far. They followed tire tracks all the way through the actual cornfield.
Think the guy tried to 'drive away' after the initial impact, until the engine died.
All I can say is Ron has a hell of a lot more patience than I do!
Nice job, good teamwork.
There's a pretty good chance the initial impact and bouncing through the ditches tripped the inertia fuel cutoff switch. Just mentioning it as I don't think you mentioned it when trying to start the truck. I'm not sure about that particular truck, but it's often hidden away somewhere around the front footwells, sometimes in the side walls, sometimes above the transmission hump. If the switch is just tripped and not damaged, it's usually just a press to reset.
i believe that only applies to ford as he mentioned smelling gas when trying to start it so the rollover probably broke a fuel line but i could be mistaken
GM uses oil pressure as the fuel pump safety. If the engine loses oil pressure, the fuel pump doesn't run. There might have been an oil cooler in the front that got damaged so the engine shut down when it ran out of oil.
I did not know there was a switch like that. Good information.
At my previous towing job the trucks were packed nicely as well. Powerful engines can handle.
You should put more bright LED lights to get a farther view on your truck to see better at night if possible
Great to see you looking out for the farmers crops.
Well done except for forgetting to have plenty of batteries! Somethings you can just not have too many of!
Great video, minimal crop damage no Arc nemisis, thumbs up
Hard to believe it rolled several times with the lack of damage to the cab. Still, he must've thought he could just keep going cross-country? I never would've believed you could get a tow line out that far, Ron. Ingenious rigging!
Another great video, thanks, Ron. I hope you had a nice vacation!
Woke up this morning and saw this and saw corn knew it was going to be a good one to watch
Brad, Welcome on board! 👍🏻😄👍🏻
Wow, if you do many more of at these types of distances you may need to consider adding a Helicopter to the fleet. It wouldn't be anywhere near cost effective, but it would make for awesom content. 😃
Maybe a drone helicopter might be a good idea for figuring out how to get vehicles out as well as more video for us.
Another excellent video by your crew. A very rare thing with you not having enough batteries.
Top notch professional job! Bravo!
Now you have become a farmer. Harvesting Chevy pickup. 😂 Did they already have the semi taken care of? Brad, you did great!! Ethan, you and your dad always do great teamwork. When Ethan was being pulled. The song "Slow Ride" came to mind. 😂 enjoyed your late evening corn field video.
And messing the farmers corn crop.
Semi driver probably only felt a little bump in the back and the trailer might have a dented under guard?
Ron it look like the front end of the pickup got the blunt force of the impact prayers for the driver of the pickup plus prayers for you guys as well
With those two young guys there, I'm surprised you didn't try just pushing it to get it closer to the rotator.
Boy - it sure turned dark real fast/
This is where some soft shackles come in handy
Outstanding as usual Ron Welcome Brad
Looks like he might have tried a run away being that far into the field
Had the same idea. Because its a REALLY far distance that this car got from the Interstate to just "roll" it.
I agree!! Seems a little suspicious honestly. Oh my damn.
Or unconscious from the crash. Depending on what happened, foot may have pinned the throttle until the inertia switch cut the fuel.
With all the airbags deployed and severe injuries, he may have just been unconscious with his foot on the pedal.
If the driver was seriously injured what makes you think he tried to run ? I drive a semi and I don’t use crude control only because if I have a medical emergency the truck won’t keep going he probably had cruise control set and probably was knocked unconscious
Just started watching this video, already love hearing both ends of communication
Another great video. And goodluck to Brad. Thanks, Ron.
gotta say Brad seems to be a hardworker
One hand in my pocket......gotta love alanis!!!!
most newer cars have a Pyro fuse in the ECM that pops when the airbags blow. driving a nice truck w no insurance is just not smart.glad the driver survived
A nice wreck of a truck and NO insurance. Dumb on his part! Good job Ron, Ethan and Brad. You guys got your exercise on this one!
Hi Brad from Melbourne Australia welcome and look forward to seeing and hearing more of you 😊
Brad is going to be great! Whish him all the best👍
Long time ago came across a wreck while harvesting corn in a Wisconsin corn field. Vehicles can disappear in there
Hi Neighbor HAHAH
Mike M Merrill...
Hope the drivers' recovery goes well - that was a long way off the highway.
Ron, you guys were really racing against the darkness near the end! Good job!
Wow, 400 yards into a cornfield What was that guy thinking Ryan I don’t know how you and your guys got it out but you guys did good job by Ron Ethan and Brad
Always good to seeing you again
A 4X4 Quad with front and rear winch would be very nice
Hi Brad, looking forward to see you working with the best Ron Pratt, never saw a vehicle go so far wow!! this old woman still learning enjoy watching you problem solve Ron Pratt👍
I'll bet the farmer was not happy about all the corn stalks that got bent over.
Welcome to the team Brad! He seems like he already has a good idea of what to do!
That's what the training videos are for
Very nice work all thanks 👍👍👍👍👍😊 o Big one 😮
Good to see your video!! Tell all I said hello !!GOG BLESS !
Its like fishing in a corn field you never know what your doing to catch.
Awesome job prayers for the driver 🙏
Good to see you cleaning up someone else's mess. Someone's gotta do it.
I feel bad for the farmer, though.
BTW: Have chiggers disappeared by this time of the year?
Ron and the boys are fishing for a Chevy.😂
Enjoyed watching the video Ron 😊
Look at using these for your endless slings and rim slings when you need to connect them together!
One thing that I have noticed about the new headsets/earsets is I am not hearing an echo through your headset. It could be really bad on the other one but I never said anything. I hate to complain. I am grateful for your weekly offerings. That truck did travel a long way after hitting the semi. That just shows you how much energy is displaced when speed is involved in the crash. Sorry the driver got injured.
Great teamwork
Welcome to Ron’s team Brad.
Stay safe, Ron and Crew!
Welcome Brad.👍
Keep up the hard work, God bless.
Welcome to the team Brad. 🧑🏽👍🏽
After seeing the front of that truck once you had it back at the shop, I'm not surprised it wouldn't start.
You said you smelled fuel so there was likely a broken fuel line or injector rail, and depending on where the ECM is located, it probably suffered damage too.
Great job as always guys
Awesome video thanks for sharing best part was at 5:51 someone must be jamming to some music lol 😂
Another great job done by you guys.
Awesome job to Ron and Brad keep up the awesome work brad
Ron you and your team did a great recovery job. It's to bad the driver didn't have insurance to cover the damage to the farmers corn and also your time in pulling his truck back up to the road and then tow. I bet his tag was expired and his license not valid.
The driver of this truck is a very fortunate to have survived this accident and even more fortunate that there wasn’t anything solid, blocking his departure off the highway.. Bad news for the farmers corn though. but another walk in the country for Ron and team. Best Wishes from the Uk. Roy W.
Imagine he will go too jail and then he will have to pay for that Corn anyway and he should! He knows better too drive without License and insurance! But there’s a lot that do! If I did it they would throw the key away and put me under the jail!
I hope Mid West Truck can recover costs for vehicle recovery, towing and storage fees. Not sure if the vehicle is worth that much, but there might be some money in the rims.
@@rogerdeloach3376probably not. Lol. He can just go bankrupt and nobody gets anything.
I wonder if the driver was also impaired? They would find out at the Hospital.
Welcome aboard to Brad. Hope he fits in and does well.
Any reason to not ask the farmer to pull the truck closer with their tractor?
If the farmer was on site, that would be a great idea. But, this may have been a remote field and getting a tractor there might have taken longer than doing it this way.
Welcome to the team, Brad!
Keep up the good work love watching you on TH-cam
Another good job boys
Awesome video I wish I lived closer to your shop because I had to have my truck towed after hitting a deer about a month ago
Sometimes you just want a Chinook helicopter.
