I don't know my friend. I used to think police body cams would show people the horror and people would respond with empathy. They don't. People are entertained by the violence, they make crass comments and cry for more police violence. People are complicated and messed up, maybe it's best to respect the dead. Why oh why is YT blurring important historical footage? It has to be seen to fully appreciate the horror of this tragic episode. If there is an issue of sensitivity then put a warning up, don't just blur things out YT. I'm sure that everybody is aware of the horror and I think it's disrespectful to the victims and to the viewer.
That said, it's yet another fine documentary from DW. Their output is second to none, as is Arte France the makers of this particular programme.

My dad was a POW at Stalag 2D at Stargard, Poland. The Germans emptied this camp starting in Jan 1945, my dad was marched to Germany in brutal winter conditions without proper clothing. They slept in barns or what not. Almost no food. The march went on for months. Hundreds died. He was liberated frrom Marlag-Milag Nord in Northwestern Germany on April 28 1945 by the British army.

The man’s story about the potatoes and how they were red but they still ate them anyway because they were starving, I had to pause for awhile and process that story. and come back to finish this . I’ve seen so many difficult and chilling documentaries about the holocaust but not many about the death marches, this was by far one of the hardest to watch. I cannot even begin to understand the strength it takes after having already been starved, tortured and traumatized to then have to walk for weeks without stopping in harsh weather conditions with no water or food or sleep, without shoes or any warm clothes. Just leaves me totally in awe of their strength.

They gave it to the devil, by obeying him rather than God (Gen 3:1-6). The devil is thus currently in charge of the world (Matt 4:8-10); Jesus Himself says so (John 12:31, 14:30, 16:11). People follow the devil because they want to (John 3:19, 8:44). Because people have free will, God must, unfortunately, allow evil decisions and actions. But this situation will end (2 Peter 3).

@@VonPitt84 I understand the sentiment behind censorship, I guess it’s natural to want to keep the bad things from our kids, but we’re unintentionally harming them by hiding this information. If someone doesn’t see the bad in something, they have a chance to assume it’s good, and there in lies the danger. Life is real no matter the age, it’s best imo to give as much information to our children as possible so they’ll carry this with them instead of being exposed to it in the wrong way later in life. It’s very late I hope that made sense. lol

I watched this documentary to understand the holocaust taking place in Gaza by those holocaust survivors from Europe. Words that resonate like; prisoners, starvation, torture, death and illnesses, mass graves, dehumanised, subhumans, concentration camps, separation of men and women etc, the' potato massacre ' os not different from the ' flour massacre ' when hungry Gazans who tried to get some flour where shot by IDF soldiers more than 300 dead bodies were loaded in the aid trucks that brought the flour. All this in 2024 while the whole world is watching on their phones and NOT in 1941
