I had the same problem last year with bites I couldn't hit, put small freshwater hooks on ,bit of lug, macky or squid, and caught the culprits....WEAVER fish. so i moved. Great videos

I'm in the process of editing a video on The Isle of Anglesey, and I Mackerel fish Moelfre, next video after this sees me catching a nice bucket full there too so stay tuned to the channel. Thanks for the comment pal. All the best and tight lines.
You often miss bites from flatties, and I think thats what it is, you need to give them plenty of time to develope, there is really no need to strike with flatties they hook themselves very often and dont put too much bait on the hook try using size 2 aberdeens also if its whiting use circle hooks on shorter snoods. personally next time I fish the mersey I am going to use an up and over wishbone rig with a clip on snood that can easily be swaped for a cod pennal snood or a large hook with a hair rigged circle baited with makerel to livebait for cod I was once fishing the Mersey on a boat uptiding and started reeling in what felt like a monster cod, as it got near the surface it seemed to drop off I carried on retreving and ended up with just a small whiting on the pennal rig, it must have been a large cod having taken the whiting
Good advice, your Mersey plan sounds spot on too, my dad hooked a major fish on a live Whiting and uses a live whiting every time we Cod fish now if possible. Tightlines for your winter sessions. All the best, Tim and Dave.
