Good stuff... my son has been racing nitro lately and I was able to figure out how to get some budget nitro practice in... lol After a race last fall I scored an OS B21 Ty2 motor and pipe from a friend, it had been sitting and needed some love.... and the header was basically worn through where the springs go... used motor and pipe for $$$, of taking my buddy to dinner at the Chineese restartaraunt with us after the races... Cleaned it up with fuel and a toothbrush, disassembled it, and sure enough it was beautiful inside.... so off it went to Drake for service... and Klinik RC makes a little ring that is for saving your exhaust from the springs wearing through.... We are now in it about $100 for a running practice engine with exhaust... about $150 if you count some used clutch parts, Kings Heads clutch shoes, and it's own air filter assembly....as well as a set of ears for the 1Army motor mount . About a half gallon through it and it is certainly a ripper of an engine, and getting good practice time with the car for each drive to the track is really nice, without putting all that time on his AD3 engine. I also recently picked up a box of 2 disassembled old NT48/NT48.3 nitro truggy parts, and was able to assemble a truck from them that I affectionately call Basketcase, with an FP02 engine it is also one heck of a ripper, and he put it on top of the box for our season opener club race... Nitro is fun, plenty of learning yet to do but I think we are getting close to finding a piece of that Glory that people keep talking about....lol Cheers, liked and subbed.... let's go!!!
That's awesome. I love hearing stories where people are enjoying the sport for what it is. There are plenty of good deals out there to be had. I just didn't want to seem too unrealistic in the pricing. I ran electric only for the first year and I did this on purpose so that I could get my bearings on setup and driving skills. In my opinion that feeling that I got the first time that I ran a Nitro is uncomparable to anything else since I've started racing. It grabbed a hold of me hard! Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the sub!!
I enjoyed this series. At the same time, I have been building a budget nitro, and just got through with my first race with it. It was only $125. I got it on eBay. it's branded, GS Racing R21pbx2. I am also running it with a 23 doller servo. (GX Servo 42kg brushless) I qualified 3rd this past weekend with this setup, and kept the motor "fat" all day. Im gonna try to make it last a while. I was getting about 8 mins of runtime. I think I can be just as competative with a cheap setup, as a $1000 setup. Great videos!
Glad you enjoyed and great job on the budget build. The one downside I found with the budget build on my side was the reliability. I did take the AE to one more race only to have another failure in the 2nd qualifier. Rear dif input gear stripped and I couldn't get my hands on a replacement at the race. Whole day wasted...
been looking to get back into rc racing im wanting to get a truggy do you think the dynamite .21 mach 2 engine would be good enough for a truggy ? and those servos that you have in the video, do you think they would be fine in a truggy?
While they will absolutely work as a budget option, I'm going to recommend going with a stronger motor and a servo with a higher torque rating for the Truggy. Reds 521s or OS Max and for steering servo your going to want something that has a good 1 year warranty and 400oz in of torque. Truggys eat steering servos especially if your racing.
That buggy was moving! Although SS is a small track that was a great test run on one tank. Appreciate the cameo 💪
I subscribe. One day I’ll get into nitro buggy racing but in the meantime I’ll just watch you😊

Killer video per usual!

Sickening !!!
I was blown away.. The real test is in 2 days. It's got to be able to hold up for 2 five minute quals and one 12 min main. 🤞
