It now seems to me that Mortimer was supposed to represent a father Owen never had - a kind, dignified and supportive man keeping the family together. In Owen's mind, Mortimer was everything his real dad wasn't. But as Owen ended up involuntarily copying his father by being a control freak and treating employees (and even his audience) like assets to his personal project, so did Mortimer copy both him and his father by acting as an abusive and controlling father to his fellow puppets. That's...really sad.
Yea even to the point of Mortimer performing an experiment with Riley’s Dog and bringing it to life, only to reveal that it responds only to him and uses it to mentally manipulate Riley and scare the other puppets. Must be why Daisy is a sock puppet in the first game.
@@geomania8533 the sock puppet (Kathy) is featured in one of the tapes the tape also features Daisy. I'm not trying to be rude but Kathy and Daisy are two different puppets
My heart grows tender whenever they mention Henson. They don't ever speak of him as lesser, even when they say things about the show being "better" they still acknowledge how great he is, Jim Henson was a glorious mastermind.
Agreed I still marvel at his puppets and full body costume puppets. My personal fav are the skeksis and big bird full body costume puppets since the way they work is just so fascinating a monitor inside the costume so the puppeteers can see the camera feed and the head is controlled by their hands I just adore them
I would look up a youtuber named Kevin who runs the channel defunctland. He sometimes does a segment called defunctTV. During one of these TV segments he did an entire series on jim Henson. Look it up.
@@smireniwaifu Jim Henson is the man who made both Sesame Street and the muppets and in the muppets he didn’t just make it he was the original puppeteer and voice of Kermit the frog heck the original Kermit puppet was made so that only Jim henson’s hand would fit in it. Other than those 2 famous kids shows he also made some live action fantasy films using his puppets and practical effects, The 2 most famous ones are the dark crystal and labyrinth
Its kinda scary how realistic Owen is as a creative perfectionist and hearing the tapes from the higher ups... I cant feel but bad for him in hinesight
Well his problem was that he used his talent in a wrong direction but tbh its the only direction it can go you cant really make any puppets show without it being for kids
I do think a better therapist, one who actually tried working with him about him talking with the puppets, and didn't just spring the idea of not doing the show on him would've helped immensely. That really cemented the idea that everyone was out to get him and that he was the only one who could do things right.
@@andrewdiaz3529 This. At first i also thought that his therapist is the start where he doesn't trust people anymore. They supposed to understand their patient, not just shoving stop signs to the clients face.
Okay, personally Riley was not one of my favorites, but goddamn that last tape of her with Rosco is heart wrenching. How Mortimer made something she loved and worked so hard on against her as a playing card is just- wow. Shes just so happy to have him again…hats off to the voice actors, they really acted their hearts out, it takes really good voice acting to pull someones heartstrings without any visuals, truly amazing work
I love the VHS tapes, It’s interesting that it’s all in Nick Nacks room, maybe Mortimer put them there specifically to watch him? I especially love that part where Nick Nack turns to the camera and goes “OH SH-“
At first I file bad for Nick and then I found out that their brother and sister and not just oh they’re made by the same person no they’re supposed to be twins. That’s some sweet Alabama shit
@@emilyfallaw5912 I thought that, too, until I got a good look at the painting... Still, it's hard for me to see them as literal twins, since they are all puppets carved by one man brought to life by him and Mortimer. You can see them as friends or family, and it wouldn't make a difference.
@@katarinacarrico7887 I'm kinda confused here. I've never played the games but have been watching videos like this for lore but these tapes don't have any picture? How can you get a closer look? Are there other tapes?
I kinda feel sorry for Riley Ruckus. I didn't expect her to care so much for Daisy & Rosco, but it makes sense. Also, Mortimer is the only puppet with zero redeeming qualities.
@@Meatjam30 i think what makes him redeeming is that hes the one thats usually the punching bag for mortimer, even though hes trying his best? But his arrogance can be really annoying.
Cause Mortimer is ALL of Owen"s avarice and hatred. He's the purest mirror of all the behaviors we saw Owen display in this recordings. If anything it adds to the tragedy, Owen after awakening Mortimer despises and hates him not yet fully realizing that Mortimer is everything Owen was before kind of redeeming himself after meeting Scout. And Mortimer, being Owens perfect mirror, is DESPERATE to be loved by his creator but unwilling to address the behaviors that make that make that love an impossible goal.
I disagree. While Mortimer's redeeming qualities might be hard to see, he does have them. Mortimer has a tactical genius (different from Riley's genius) and can be gentleman like when he's not angry. Plus he does have a strong loyalty to his family, including Owen (which is why he keeps Owen alive no matter what). In fact while it's horrific that he uses Riley's dog against her, it's a very interesting way of dealing with the situation. Mortimer could have simply used the book and killed Riley but instead he found a way to keep her in check without killing her. Which is similar to what he does with Owen. I think the point is that just like Owen, ALL of the puppets have redeeming qualities, there's more to them then just their worst traits which is why they're tragic characters. Likewise there toxic relationships with each other only further feed into their worst traits. I think that just like the therapist pointed out it was a bad idea for Owen to run the show, since it would only worsen his mental health and feed into his negative qualities; Mortimer leading the puppets is bad for Mortimer.
This might be obvious but all the puppets seem to really want Owen's validation. The puppets also call Owen "Father". Like I said this may be obvious but since the spell is a reflection of Owen it may be safe to say that even though Owen says he hates his father, he probably wants his fathers validation because he didn't get it as a child.
@@owo4470 yeah I think it may just be Mortimer that wants Owen's validation since Owen gave him life. While the other puppets just care about mortimer's validation since he gave life to them. If that makes any sense
I love how this game add more layer to Riley's character. She went from simple "mad scientist" to something more. She's unhinged, yes, but she deeply loves her dog Rossco. And Riley was self sacrificing (surprisingly, a good trait she had inherited from Owen), she was willing to take the fall for Daisy because she was "family". This game really made Riley my favorite character!
Did notice that Mortimer wants Owen to love him and accept despite being what he is as well as join him. The creation desperate to be accepted by his creator and when that fails destroys him. Amazing video!
Also Riley Crying is honestly heartbreaking And this all coming from a evil voodoo puppet The charachter writers put so much personality and detail in there family drama
@@LaOtredad well the guy had an abusive dad, a series of mental problems and finally was possessed by a demon, I kinda feel bad for the guy. I know he's controlling but no one deserves what happened to him
Yes all that screaming and yelling of his really stocked my with fear and his tone of voice shows how furious he is in an actual sort of way and mortimers dialogue scares me the most in these audio recordings😨😨😨😨
The lore is good. The trouble is the gameplay is just not all that good. It’s very repetitive and riddled with bugs. Random chance of being caught makes losses feel bad for all the wrong reasons. It’s usually not a lack of skill but more bad luck when you lose. In my eyes definitely a step down from Hello Puppets 1, this almost feels slightly like a cash-grab off of the success of the last game.
@@lemonflavouredtnt6969 I don't think it's a cash grab, 19.99 isn't that bad. There are others that are much more expensive a less ambitious. This shows love from the first, it's just they wanted to create challenges based on the puppets and what they would use in a show. I think some of the ideas were better on paper than in practice. But many of the cutscenes, voice-acting, and levels were very good. It's not a perfect game, defiantly needs some ironing, but defiantly a slightly better experience than some titles worth $60. This is my opinion.
@@nandotnt5678 I still think 19.99 is too high. It’s massively unpolished, each level is basically the same thing, they could’ve made it so much better just by making each level feel unique to each puppet or at least theme the traps after them a bit better, you know? It’s riddled with glitches and puppets often clip through the locker you’re hiding in. The HUD looks ugly and like it was quickly thrown together. I just feel like this was totally rushed out.
The characterization of the puppets is really interesting they all fall into the stereotypical roles of a disfunctional/abusive family Mortimer: the addict/abuser Riley:the hero/goldenchild Nick Nack: the scapegoat/ lostchild Daisy: the enabler/caretaker It is absolutely heartbreaking to see Owen's broken home reflected into his art. Makes me think about my projection on my OCs.
Ah...the stuff about Owen dealing with his parental issues hits close to home. That feeling of genuinely hating them and telling yourself it's worth dealing with their BS to finally get something (like money, housing, etc.) out of all the abuse they put you through, but also still craving their praise and love because deep down we all want to be loved by our parents. They did a really great job portraying that. They also did a good job of overlaying those issues onto Owen's relationship with his puppets. Each of the Handeemen takes on one of Owen's sides of himself. Mortimer is his drive for companionship and wanting to be in control, Riley is his perfectionism, Daisy is the manifestation of the image he has of his only parental influence - his father, so she's sweet but terrifying at the same time, and of course NickNack is just flat out his abandonment issues and lack of self-esteem. Very glad you opted to dig into all the hidden stuff, SHB. Can't wait for the story explained video.
I love how innovative Hello Puppets is in comparison to FNAF and BATIM, The Puppets and Owen have actual personalities other than greedy evil spirits which makes them more engaging and fun to watch
Yes, and the story doesn't get rehashed over and over again. And the lore is consistent. Each piece tells more of the story, not confuse it for the sake of sales and such.
I enjoyed the fnaf animatronics lack of personality it adds to their scaryness because it shows how they cannot be reasoned with all you can do is defend your office and pray
@@larsthememelord3383 Yeah, I agree! All you know is what happened to them and that they're coming for revenge... though the lore in FNAF is so complicated. That's where I think Hello Puppets shines the most. :)
I find it very inturesting they say "for the love of Owen" the creators could have just left it as "for the love of god" but no, they reinforced that Owen is like a god to them.
I love how the games sets up to antagonise Owen, before showing how broken and alone he is. They show him being some angry bitter boss who couldn't control himself, but eventually they show why he can't control himself, and how we changes.
Man now I really wanna see what Daisy and Nick would've looked like in the original game. I bet daisy would've chased us with her pie cutter and would've switched between her personalities. Nick would've tried turning us into art, like how Owen became a puppet but like a statue instead. Idk the weapon tho. Maybe a sharp paintbrush, spraying acrylics in eyes, using paint to find us, ie paint getting on our feet.
What’s really interesting is Riley’s comment to Daisy about non of them being what they were ment to be. When she says “I can’t use this microscope, no mater how hard I try, do you know why? Because Mortimer doesn’t know how to use it either. We are just a reflection of our creator” it’s super interesting that she says because Mortimer doesn’t know how to use it, not Owen. And it’s even more interesting that during Riley’s brake down, that MORTIMER is the one who is haunted by Owen, and that he genuinely wants Owen to love him, and to do the show for him. That’s why Riley hated Owen so much, she hates that Mortimer can’t let Owen go. But if what book dealer guy said is true, that Mortimer would be dependent on Owen, he literally can’t. It’s also kinda sad to think that Mortimer was genuinely there for him in a sense. I am referring to when Mortimer was still in his head (they seem to be going for an imaginary friend brought to life angle) like when Owen was seemingly talking to himself during his diary entries and was encouraged, by again no one, to talk about his Dad, I think that was Mortimer. And it was genuinely sweet too. You can’t hear the voice Owen is talking to in, personal log 83, but you can tell by the way Owen delivers his lines that he is being coaxed to talk about his Dad, not bullied or forced. Seeing that Mortimer was apparently genuine about Owen, it seems like Mortimer was the bird on his shoulder that would listen to his problems and help him through it, maybe. But that still leaves the question that if Mortimer dies when Owen does…where or what is Owen now?
"None of us are what we were meant to be" also applies to Nick Nack. He and Riley were intended by Owen to be a brother-sister duo or dynamic, but after he is brought to life by Mortimer, Nick ends up developing a huge crush on Riley, which shouldn't technically be possible. Even Mortimer is surprised and a bit taken aback when he realizes that Nick is harboring secret feelings for Riley.
@@EyreAffair I noticed that too!! Owen got upset at those he worked with when they couldn’t 100% do the show how he envisioned. So it’s pretty interesting that even the creations themselves are not as he intended. Wonder if thats symbolism for ideas not truly reaching the final product in the form of your ideas literally having a life of their own. Nick doing what he is supposed to do at first but then catching feels for Riley shows a separation from the “idea” he used to be, because he is no longer an “idea” he is “existing”
@@WitchDoctorMegra It's every AI developer's nightmare...when the "AI" (in this case, puppets brought to life by an ancient spell) develops free will. Owen thought he could control his creations, but in the end, they developed free will of their own. I think it's quite fascinating that Owen's creations took on lives of their own; even Riley and Scout end up wanting to "be part of the human world".
the more info we get about Owen and hearing his tapes the more that I, as an artist myself, can weirdly relate to what he's going through even down to having a not so great parent growing up makes me even sadder about what happens to him
Yeah, the guy’s horrendous childhood basically screwed his mental development. So when he managed to get his second chance running, that childhood trauma along with his previous failure drove him paranoid and desperate to make his dream come to life and to “stick it” to his dad. Didn’t help that the puppets were already reflections of his personality which probably was part of reason why the other puppeteers had a hard time emulating them the way Owen saw them. Still, the fact that “Mortimer” essentially gave him the idea to find a means of bringing the puppets to life leaves me wondering. Was there actually a demon that was preying on Owen even before he got the book, or maybe the disassociation got so bad that the “puppet personalities” started becoming full on independent personalities that we’re seeing now and the “Mortimer” personality manipulated him into trying to find a way to “untether” them from their host.
@@theheroneededwillette6964 knowing how I feel about my own creations and how I would even do the same "talk to myself as my characters" in gradeschool when I faced really bad bullying, I'd also occasionally have the "I wish I could bring you to life" and "I wish I was real so I could be your friend," thought train pop up Hell, even now as an adult I'll sometimes look at some of my characters that feel like they'd be good friends to me and start thinking about "What if I could?" So I doubt it was this demonic influence *yet* but rather that similar lonely feeling of "I wish this character was alive so I'd have a friend who understands me"
I love creating anything and i feel super connected to some things i make, and it felt really really similar. Mostly because i put aspects of myself in most of my ocs because i love them and it helps me cope and anything physical of them made me love them more
i love when there’s lore videos about well made games like these, it’s just satisfying when the story seems to come together (even if it’s mostly theories and speculation)
Can I just say there’s a lot of dialogue in the series and the voice acting is absolutely phenomenal especially Daisy Riley and Owen I didn’t even realize that the tapes took so long it’s just listening to the voices got me lost in the experience
Honestly I feel like hello puppets deserves more love then it actually getting which is definitely saying something because the fact that games like Five Nights at Freddy's is good but hello puppets literally has lore behind his own lore. This thing really needs a sequel because this is just a prequel now it just needs the sequel. Like literally there's so many questions going on like whatever happened to scout and did she ever come back to the studio? I also feel that hello puppets the first game was similar to this one where everything was happening repeatedly because if you think about it we never got the first gout until we use all the other puppets making me think that this has happened over and over and over again similar to what happened with Nick.
I think the con man researching and translating the book and getting haunted or corrupted would be a great final sequel. The story is being told backwards but that's okay. I guess it wouldn't quite be Hello Puppets anymore, but his tape logs were really compelling.
@@missachua Loved how his tapes are basically the only ones truly distorted and haunted. The best tape was him repeating the spell while unconscious, and you could hear what was definitely Mortimer laughing in the background
I like the interesting implications that Mortimer, not only brought the Handees to life, but also the Felt Trio, Tommy, Olive, and Cookie, as seen with Mortimer trusting Tommy with being the bailiff for Daisy's trial
Dear God I adore this voice acting. The twisted silliness of the puppets, the sheer frustration in the voice of the studio staff, overall writing is amazing! I haven't seen so much soul being put into indie game in years, despite them being my favorite way to spend time
Kathy is the blonde pigtailed puppet we see at the tea party, she's used to write down every thing all the time and you can hear from when scout talked about each of them they talked in presentence so that means their still alive or around in some way but may be mutilated or just locked away. All that there is at the table is, Kathy, Rosco, and reily. That means the other two will probably been seen more in the second game.
Thanks for being so dedicated to finding the secrets and LORE!! I loved watching your play through and am excited for this video as well. EDIT: 39:10 that was INSANELY CREEPY. That laugh sounds a lot like Mortimer’s, so maybe Ennioch is possessing Mortimer and it’s not just Mortimer reflecting Owen’s personality. 46:59 For the love of OWEN! I find that very funny 😂
To be clear, Mortimer didn't get rid of Nick Nack and Daisy, since Scout mentioned him when they were in his room and you can see his silhouette. I imagine he just harshly punished them too the point they were terrified of him and wouldn't think of betraying him
Now that we can hear all the tapes, it really shows how much like Owen the main puppets actually are. Even showing how Mortimer wound phrase certain commands then forget later what he said. Being the same thing with Owen wanting the crew to do their jobs, but ultimately not liking HOW they did it.
The revelation that the puppet from the first game with them at the table for tea was not Daisy 😳 That took me by surprise. And with this game I've developed a soft spot for the other puppets, especially Riley.
This is so fascinating to listen to. The spiral of Owen, the book seller realizing something is extremely wrong, and the puppets being easily manipulated/fooled into doing something they don't want to do
I just realised. With the mention of a second spell. At the end of the game from the previous video when messing with Scout, Owen says a different spell. I think that's where his consciousness ended up going. He wouldn't remember as he transferred it again but it explains what he gave Scout that was so important. And would kill them. By Scout dying in the first game if she had Owen's consciousness that killed the puppets for good. Ending the cycle. Also adding to my own theory here but Scout literally says at the end "Why don't we call you Scout" at the end of the game which I think is hinting at exactly what happened to Owen. He became Scout by using that spell. You see a blue mist leave Owen. I'm pretty sure that must have been what happened.
My dude you are a BEAST! I have literally looked all over youtube and have not seen someone with a full case of the tapes. U are an absolute legend and thanks so much for showing these tapes and secrets, it probably was not easy.
I think it's adorable that Nick has this big crush on Riley. Despite being evil puppets, it shows that they feel all human emotions rather than just hate.
@@Jane-ow7sr Personally, I see it more as Nick wanting Riley's approval and familial love, but that's twisted by the curse put on him, as Nick represents Owen's abandonment issues and lack of self-esteem.
I thought it was cute too, until Riley called him “brother” and I was like “wait what-?” Now I think it’s more like “brother in arms” (close ally), but still FAIRLY weird. But still, the thought of puppets still feeling such human emotions is very cute.
This story does a better job of making me care about fictional characters than Hollywood has managed for years. It's amazing how invested I am in the dramatic lives of puppets.
I'm both really impressed with how quickly you've collected these collectibles (you deserve more than 1.83M subs), and how believable the characters are. I can imagine them being real people in a real show, and how a lot has happened in the studio that isn't shoved to the forefront, like casuals aren't gonna realise Nick has a crush on Riley. Great game 10/10 would game again
This has been one of my favourite gameplays and secrets reveals you have ever, done Mike. The sheer amount of work alone to get it out so quick. It's been so much fun to watch but hope you get a chance to catch up on some rest.
Nick and Daisy weren’t added to the final game due to time constraints and restrictions placed upon the Otherworld team by their Oculus contract. The game was going to be much longer but because of that they had to cut it short. So maybe they still have plans for those two in the future.
The tapes really give a lot of interesting lore about hello puppets and really love the fact that you put in a lot of effort in collecting the vhs! The most interesting lore info was that the puppets are only alive as long as the one that created them is still alive then does that mean Owen is still alive somehow? Where is he then during the main game?
1:01:14 the way Mortimers voice actor yells “I asked WHY!” Makes me flinch no matter how many times I hear it. Props to the voice actor of course but dang it’s terrifying!
37:07 “whatever you create is going to be permanently dependent on you, so if you die the puppets will too.” Maybe Owen isn’t dead? Unless he used the other spell, Owen is most likely still alive.
It really, really is. There were several times when I felt shaken because of the level of rage/sadness in the characters. They all did a fantastic job and added SO much depth to these characters.
I'd like if they make a game set in between the first and second game where you play as Anthony, for those who don't know Anthony was Mortimer's host in the first game. You know it's him from the tattoo on his hand. And maybe one about Harper too.
I noticed how Mortimer said "for the love of Owen", indicating that he's sees his creator as a deity, or god, trying to get his attention and accept him. Interesting to think about
So happy they mentioned that Kathy is the sock puppet we see during their tea, now maybe people will stop saying that she's Daisy. At first I felt sorry for Nick but I these tapes really show how he's a real prick.
I'm glad at the end, he at least finally realises his insanity and chooses to set thing right ,just that it's caused more deaths and it caused more deaths even after he summons scout
I love how all of these puppets are their own person and character, despite coming from one person being Owen. That each aspect of his personality forms all the Handeemen's character traits. Mortimer's meticulous attitude, Nick Nack's arrogant artistic personality, Riley's crave for answers and data, and Daisy's tendency to break out because of her short temper. It all comes together and I love it! Props to the devs!
The world building, relationship between the puppets (and, thusly, the dynamics of Owen's psyche), and especially the voice acting performances themselves are incredible!
Please get Mike to 2 million 🙏🏼 he deserves sooo much more recognition. Working 16hrs+ and works so hard to produce amazing content for us. Thank you for all your efforts SHB, You are simply the best ❤️
I really like how well made the game is and how precious the secret content is to understanding why the puppets become so twisted despite mirroring Owen ! Like how Mortimer is both representing Owen's violent and abusing father and his mixed feelings of love/hate toward him (like how both Morty and Owen want their father's recognition somehow) or how Riley is more about Owen's desire for perfection and independance and stuff !
This some of the best voice acting I’ve ever heard. Seriously underrated talent here. Thanks for delivering, Mike, I was waiting for this one. Great job as always ❤️
I love how big part of the puppets interacting with each other is Mortimer getting closer to a mental breakdown from having three "children" (colleagues... can we call them "his gremlins"?) and the others being either annoying or incredidbly wholesome.. I just wish we had a beautiful bunch of funny animations with him being the tired father figure and dealing with a psycho scientist, an artist in denial for his own ""sister"" and a stressed lady who just recently got an hold of her dangerous personality... ah yes, let's not forget the giant dog (I like the fact that Rosco in the first game wasn't "mutated" by Riley experimenting on him like many suspected and she didn't in fact touch him) and the small hyperactive Scout. I'dd pay to have that hire as a webshow and enjoy both the wholesome moments and the rest. 1:02:48 - The greatest betrayal in "Hello Puppets" history.
This story has me hooked. I love all the characters personalities. Love how some of them interact and respect each other. I'm kinda liking this lore more than fnaf, less Convoluted. This game deserves more recognition. Thank you, Mike for putting in the work to get all this lore for us! 🙌
Every single one of the puppets really does resemble a dysfunctional family, and it really hits home when it comes to Nick and Riley's audio recordings. It's almost horrifying to hear that even a game can reflect broken families, in a sense. This tugs at my fraying heartstrings
Poor Riley. She really did care about Nick and Daisy, but Mortimer forced her to betray them by using Rosco- the thing she loves more than anything- against her.
i love your longer videos! thanks so much for putting so much time into fully completing this game - all of the secrets were no doubt hard to get, but i really appreciate the work youre willing to put into this for us! i love this game (though, admittedly, a few things could be fleshed out a bit more), and i loved seeing your playthrough!!
I have to say you're my favourite channel that explains horror games. I've watch your videos and sometime I rewatch them. It takes time to effort to do things like this is ,I appreciate it so much. Thank you
And Fredrick did also told me that there are 5 vhs tapes which the other two are about riley trying to fix rosco which at the end of the vhs had mortimer coming in Riley lab and deciding to fix rosco in his own way. The other VHS tape was about Nick Nack, Riley, and daisy danger discussing about Mortimer behavior to the other puppets, including them as well and deciding to plan on rebellion against him and replacing him with Riley as the new leader.
Owen's frustration with his workers not doing it the way he wants it to be done is the reason why I prefer to make all my creation projects single-handedly, as this is the only way I don't have to compromise my self-proclaimed "glorious vision."
yes, I know calling my projects "a glorious vision" is egotistical and dripping with pride and arrogance, but that's why I put quotes around "glorious vision," to show that I may be an egotistical control freak, especially (but admittedly not limited to) when it comes to my creative projects, I at least have the self-awareness of how controlling and prideful I am... (now I'm being egotistical about being egotistical. I can't stop!)
God there's so much here, thank you so much for compiling it! One note -- you said that Owen started seeing a therapist after the pilot didn't work out, but he was seeing the therapist before the first tape. He mentions that the therapist told him to focus on the good things when they happen.
I feel like Owen is the textbook example of DID (disassociative identity disorder) after listening to these tapes. He had traumatic instances and "his puppets were a part of him". While it is warped genius, i think lack of acknowledgement and treatment is what led us down this rabbit hole called Hello Puppets. Thank you for all these videos providing us in-depth looks inside!
Wonder if there will be a 3rd hello puppets game. It’s Really amazing of you to go through all those hours just to get all these tapes for us viewers…you’re an awesome youtuber superhorrorbro, keep up the extraordinary work
This game and the secrets changed my perspective of the game Owen truly was just an insane man but with such a deep story that makes you understand the insanity Mortimer is way more power hungry and horrifying than I could ever understand I use to hate Riley, but then Mortimer shows his power and control and it makes me feel so horrible for her; same for Nick and Daisy And now that I also know about Scout, I feel sad again cause of the ending of the first game Yeah this became way bigger in the best way possible
Thank you for sacrificing yourself. That probably took ages and a lot of patience. Again, thank you for all your efforts to make this channel as great as it has become ♡
48:48 Nik Nak is the drama and stage expert and does a performance like that at such an important moment 😅 he was big bothered 58:40 my god that broke my heart her sobbing is heartbreak
Thinking about the automated puppets I recall Daisy telling kookie to keep the others out of the laundry room. So the automated puppets were given sentience but it seems as if they don't require a host (unless the people are squashed up in the boxes). And they don't have the same sort of murderous personality as the main 4 due to not being made by Owen but more robotic thanks to being made by Mark(?) And imb.
It’s interesting that in the first game we all assumed that it was Riley that made Rosco the way he was but it was actually Mortimer. I kinda feel bad for Riley and Daisy and the other puppets having to live under Mortimer
I agree. I feel really sad for Riley and Daisy, and I had figured Rosco was the way he was as a "weapon" for Riley, too. Hearing how much she cared about him and was worried for him when Mortimer threatened to kill him was just heartwrenching.
Genuinely shocked by all of the effort he put into getting all of this, I don't think even saying thank you is enough but I have to say it so thank you!!
Man the puppets having their own problems amongst themselves and alot of them fearing mortimer makes me sad, especially for Riley, she really cared about rosco and wanted to bring him to life and mortimer held him over her head to keep her in line. Then again it might just be me being weirdly emotionally attached to a bunch if video game wooden puppets lol
It's kind of interesting to note that for all the talk she does about not liking feelings and being all rational, Riley is the only puppet who's actually kind: -Mortimer is well, Mortimer. -Nick Knack is kind of nice but as evident by the tapes, he'll throw anyone under the bus to save himself. -Daisy is more so nice rather than kind, why? Kind of hard to put into words, but Daisy's "niceness" doesn't feel genuine to me. It always feels like she's putting on an act, like she asks about their wellbeing not because she actually cares, but so she won't become a target. -Riley on other other hand despite her bickering, does actually care about Nick Knack. Hell, for all we know her way of treating him is because she knows that he's the scapegoat, so she's trying to toughen him up so he can fight back against Mortimer. And in an odd turn of events, she stood up for Daisy. Hell, she evens seems to hold some vague care for Mortimer as well. Hard to explain but Riley is the only one that seems to have a heart you know? Also looking back on Owen's life, dude probably has no idea how a nice person would actually act. Something which explains why Daisy is the way she is, ie: She doesn't feel genuine. Also why she has a temper, since Owen probably can't comprehend the idea that a nice person can just exist, to him there must be some major flaw like danger mode.
I agree with your views. I think it's possible, though, that maybe Daisy is genuinely trying to be kind, however, it's clear that, both in her behavior with the other puppets, and in the ways she ignored Owen's questions, she's holding back a LOT, like, bottling up a LOT of thoughts and feelings. It makes me think she's trying to be all smiles but is internally really upset. (Reminds me of my own depression, really. D: ) I honestly felt kind of bad for her in this game, and especially Riley too. Riley seemed like a wrathful monster in the first game, but this prequel showed a whole different side of her, and as you said, I agree... she really did show some kind of kindness, even if it was in some... twisted ways. (Like trying to comfort Daisy that everything will be okay *and* that she'll get more human hosts, lol) Her heartache for Rosco and her genuine concern for Daisy was honestly amazing and totally unexpected imo.
@Jessica Schultz I just had a thought. Is it possible at some point in Owen's own life he had a dog? Keep in mind all the All the puppets have certain aspects of Owen's personality. But it's odd he never mentioned Roscoe himself. Did he just like the idea of having a dog on the show similar to Sesame Street own dog? Or did he just thought one up later inspired by his own pet? if he had one
We really do have to appreciate the efforts superhorrorbro puts in these video by going through tough levels over and over again, uncovering all the secrets, making videos and editing. All this requires effort and time and I just want to tell u, we all really do appreciate it! 😃
As a creative person whose family isn’t supportive, and who deeply loves my characters, Owen makes too much sense to me. The VO actor deserves an award. Actually all the VO actors do.
Listening to these tapes makes Midnight Show super sad. Harper's not only an illusion at this point, but has been dead for years. Owen's cracking under cycles and cycles of psychological torture from Mortimer and so close to the end, he remembers and clings to the last and maybe the only time anyone was genuinely kind to him. And she keeps trying for no other reason than she's nice. He clings to that memory as he makes Scout and takes comfort in the fact that she's just like Harper. Because he was shown kindness, he made something good. And then he dies. But it was enough.
And as much as I’d sooner take a flamethrower to those demonic piles of termite food I feel bad for Nick Nack being manipulated from multiple sides and well that threat from Daisy
Honestly when this game came out I was not expecting just how in depth this lore would be but I love it. Now I kinda wanna know how much time passed between this game and the first because when we see Owen his body is not all decayed and maggoty but we are talking magic here which could be an excuse to preserve his body well past his death. I hope they make another game. It doesn't have to be with the puppets but I wanna know more about the cult they mentioned. Maybe someone else who gets a hold of the book.
Bro super horror bro you are the most underrated horror game player and theorist out there if you see this I just wanna let you know keep doing what your doing man I admire you so much bro
man, the quality of story and acting in the tapes is so good!! i just think it’s just such a shame this wasn’t more central to the actual gameplay rather than just being tapes and secrets you hv to find.
I do wonder if he was already somewhat of an independent personality from Owen even before he was “freed” by the spell.
I didn't think the scary puppet video game would be about the cycle of abuse but I agree that it's a theme
Mortimer also sought Owen’s approval, seeing him as his father. That’s why he kept moving Owen from host to host until he could get approval.
Look it up.
who is henson
@@smireniwaifu Jim Henson is the man who made both Sesame Street and the muppets and in the muppets he didn’t just make it he was the original puppeteer and voice of Kermit the frog heck the original Kermit puppet was made so that only Jim henson’s hand would fit in it. Other than those 2 famous kids shows he also made some live action fantasy films using his puppets and practical effects, The 2 most famous ones are the dark crystal and labyrinth
Nice pfp
Its kinda scary how realistic Owen is as a creative perfectionist and hearing the tapes from the higher ups... I cant feel but bad for him in hinesight
I hope this doesn't offend, but as far as being a creative perfectionist is concerned, Owen's not the only one...
Well his problem was that he used his talent in a wrong direction but tbh its the only direction it can go you cant really make any puppets show without it being for kids
@@MIDO44444 he could have made something like dhmis tho
I do think a better therapist, one who actually tried working with him about him talking with the puppets, and didn't just spring the idea of not doing the show on him would've helped immensely. That really cemented the idea that everyone was out to get him and that he was the only one who could do things right.
@@andrewdiaz3529 This.
At first i also thought that his therapist is the start where he doesn't trust people anymore.
They supposed to understand their patient, not just shoving stop signs to the clients face.
The lore about what happened in this game completely shatters what I thought beforehand with the original game.

What was the original plot?
Okay, personally Riley was not one of my favorites, but goddamn that last tape of her with Rosco is heart wrenching. How Mortimer made something she loved and worked so hard on against her as a playing card is just- wow. Shes just so happy to have him again…hats off to the voice actors, they really acted their hearts out, it takes really good voice acting to pull someones heartstrings without any visuals, truly amazing work
It was heartbreaking to hear 😭
Rosco was my favorite puppet from the last game, Riley was second
I love the VHS tapes,
It’s interesting that it’s all in Nick Nacks room, maybe Mortimer put them there specifically to watch him?
I especially love that part where Nick Nack turns to the camera and goes
“OH SH-“
Poo
"SHE LOVES ME!"
"He backs me as a leader!!"
Poor Nick...
At first I file bad for Nick and then I found out that their brother and sister and not just oh they’re made by the same person no they’re supposed to be twins. That’s some sweet Alabama shit
@@violetpencil9614 To be fair, it's not necessarily romantic love. He could want her so love him as a brother and not just hate him.
@@emilyfallaw5912 I thought that, too, until I got a good look at the painting... Still, it's hard for me to see them as literal twins, since they are all puppets carved by one man brought to life by him and Mortimer. You can see them as friends or family, and it wouldn't make a difference.
@@emilyfallaw5912 I am 80% sure the painting that he made is him holding his sister in his arms leaning her back and going in for a kiss
Not true, nick knack also doesn’t have any redeeming qualities.
Mortimer actually acting kind, but for his own benefit. He gave rosco to life to make Riley happy, but to also stick her by his side.
Riley actually doesn't
She thinks he's an obstacle and he genuinely thinks he's harmful To them
except for Riley ofc
@@owo4470 yeah I think it may just be Mortimer that wants Owen's validation since Owen gave him life. While the other puppets just care about mortimer's validation since he gave life to them. If that makes any sense
Mortimer even says "in the name of owen" like you would say God
Riley: “You can’t defeat me.”
Mortimer: “I know, but he can.”
*Rosco enters
I love how this game add more layer to Riley's character. She went from simple "mad scientist" to something more. She's unhinged, yes, but she deeply loves her dog Rossco. And Riley was self sacrificing (surprisingly, a good trait she had inherited from Owen), she was willing to take the fall for Daisy because she was "family". This game really made Riley my favorite character!
Did notice that Mortimer wants Owen to love him and accept despite being what he is as well as join him. The creation desperate to be accepted by his creator and when that fails destroys him. Amazing video!
Kind of like the story of Frankenstein’s monster
Also Riley Crying is honestly heartbreaking
And this all coming from a evil voodoo puppet
The charachter writers put so much personality and detail in there family drama
This series deserves more love cus of how much effort has bin put into the charachters and gameplay

Fun fact, this is the same voice actor that voiced Wesker from Resident Evil 5.
The lore in this game is amazing, it’s sad the game is so underrated
The lore is good. The trouble is the gameplay is just not all that good. It’s very repetitive and riddled with bugs. Random chance of being caught makes losses feel bad for all the wrong reasons. It’s usually not a lack of skill but more bad luck when you lose. In my eyes definitely a step down from Hello Puppets 1, this almost feels slightly like a cash-grab off of the success of the last game.
@@MegaMaster1021 yeah I agree with that. Not everything has to be game-changing.
@@lemonflavouredtnt6969 that's fair, this game had a clear vision for its presentation but unfortunately didn't execute it well.
I love how Mortimer was like “ even you Kathy” . Like that a betrayal he really didn’t see coming so we know who was his real favorite.
The characterization of the puppets is really interesting they all fall into the stereotypical roles of a disfunctional/abusive family
Mortimer: the addict/abuser
Riley:the hero/goldenchild
Nick Nack: the scapegoat/ lostchild
Daisy: the enabler/caretaker
It is absolutely heartbreaking to see Owen's broken home reflected into his art. Makes me think about my projection on my OCs.
That is basically my AU
The fact that the little rivalry between Mortimer and Nick Nack actually mirrors the dark childhood of Owen :(
Nick deserves better fr fr😭😭😭😭
Proud to be a voice at 24:26! Thanks for collecting all the tapes!
You sound like your enjoying it a lot
I enjoyed the fnaf animatronics lack of personality
it adds to their scaryness because it shows how they cannot be reasoned with all you can do is defend your office and pray

But that still leaves the question that if Mortimer dies when Owen does…where or what is Owen now?
in the end maybe when he says i am ready did he mean he choose them and that let them live without him? otherwise that is next game material
I think it's quite fascinating that Owen's creations took on lives of their own; even Riley and Scout end up wanting to "be part of the human world".
the more info we get about Owen and hearing his tapes the more that I, as an artist myself, can weirdly relate to what he's going through
even down to having a not so great parent growing up
makes me even sadder about what happens to him
Yeah, the guy’s horrendous childhood basically screwed his mental development.
@@theheroneededwillette6964 knowing how I feel about my own creations and how I would even do the same "talk to myself as my characters" in gradeschool when I faced really bad bullying, I'd also occasionally have the "I wish I could bring you to life" and "I wish I was real so I could be your friend," thought train pop up
Hell, even now as an adult I'll sometimes look at some of my characters that feel like they'd be good friends to me and start thinking about "What if I could?"
So I doubt it was this demonic influence *yet* but rather that similar lonely feeling of "I wish this character was alive so I'd have a friend who understands me"

i love when there’s lore videos about well made games like these, it’s just satisfying when the story seems to come together (even if it’s mostly theories and speculation)
It's better to keep it small so people don't ruin it.
I think it can have a crossover with bendy.
The lore is great, but the problem is the gameplay. It’s glitchy and buggy and hard to play.
EDIT:
39:10 that was INSANELY CREEPY. That laugh sounds a lot like Mortimer’s, so maybe Ennioch is possessing Mortimer and it’s not just Mortimer reflecting Owen’s personality.
46:59 For the love of OWEN! I find that very funny 😂
Give this man a Nickelodeon Kids Choice award, he spent hours of his life on this lol.
The spiral of Owen, the book seller realizing something is extremely wrong, and the puppets being easily manipulated/fooled into doing something they don't want to do
Was just rewatching your ‘Hello Puppets’ playthrough from this year when this dropped!!! You’re killing it Mike , thank you man💓
I just realised.
Yeah but.... they're siblings, it's weird even if they technically are puppets and Owen himself.
@@Jane-ow7sr Personally, I see it more as Nick wanting Riley's approval and familial love, but that's twisted by the curse put on him, as Nick represents Owen's abandonment issues and lack of self-esteem.
@@Jane-ow7sr their not actually siblings owen was portraying them like a family none of them are related
I thought it was cute too, until Riley called him “brother” and I was like “wait what-?”

But still, the thought of puppets still feeling such human emotions is very cute.

The game was going to be much longer but because of that
they had to cut it short.
Yeah, Owen have been transferred into different bodies for some times now. He's still alive, but in different vessel.
1:01:14 the way Mortimers voice actor yells “I asked WHY!” Makes me flinch no matter how many times I hear it. Props to the voice actor of course but dang it’s terrifying!
I feel even more sad thatt Scout died. She was a good creation of Owen. I really thought she was going to destroy the evil puppets.
37:07 “whatever you create is going to be permanently dependent on you, so if you die the puppets will too.” Maybe Owen isn’t dead? Unless he used the other spell, Owen is most likely still alive.
Conscience transferral spell. By Hello Puppets Mortimer is probably bouncing Owen about between the various heavily tied up trapped people.
The voice acting in this game is SO good omg why is no one talking about that more
True
It really, really is. There were several times when I felt shaken because of the level of rage/sadness in the characters. They all did a fantastic job and added SO much depth to these characters.
I'd like if they make a game set in between the first and second game where you play as Anthony, for those who don't know Anthony was Mortimer's host in the first game. You know it's him from the tattoo on his hand. And maybe one about Harper too.
A DLC would be interesting!
Im hoping for that to happened
I noticed how Mortimer said "for the love of Owen", indicating that he's sees his creator as a deity, or god, trying to get his attention and accept him. Interesting to think about
So happy they mentioned that Kathy is the sock puppet we see during their tea, now maybe people will stop saying that she's Daisy.
At first I felt sorry for Nick but I these tapes really show how he's a real prick.
I'm glad at the end, he at least finally realises his insanity and chooses to set thing right ,just that it's caused more deaths and it caused more deaths even after he summons scout
“The cassettes will probably take 20 minutes”
*11:00* “now we will start with the cassettes” *an hour left to go*
I love how all of these puppets are their own person and character, despite coming from one person being Owen.
Hear hear to this!!
Hell no just 2 mil? That's weak sauce how about 5 mil
@@drakofox1362 no, 15 mil!
I said 2 mil cos that's his next milestones but obviously he deserves loads more.
The speed at this coming out is astounding. Incredible work Mike.
Kinda funny how Riley and Nick were created to be siblings but Nick ended falling for Riley.
Wonder if there will be a 3rd hello puppets game.
It’s Really amazing of you to go through all those hours just to get all these tapes for us viewers…you’re an awesome youtuber superhorrorbro, keep up the extraordinary work
Please play Aladdin and salior Moon
Me too
The way that magic is explained in this is very accurate. Especially how the spell changes based on his emotional state and intentions.
Mike deserves a rest those tapes and casettes definitely took an age to get
The voice actor for the personal messages is so good bro it sounds so fluid and natural yet still you can tell it’s acting it’s so good
Hey Mike thanks for all the effort you've put into this game to get all the secrets, it looks really difficult
This game and the secrets changed my perspective of the game
Owen truly was just an insane man but with such a deep story that makes you understand the insanity
Mortimer is way more power hungry and horrifying than I could ever understand
I use to hate Riley, but then Mortimer shows his power and control and it makes me feel so horrible for her; same for Nick and Daisy
And now that I also know about Scout, I feel sad again cause of the ending of the first game
Yeah this became way bigger in the best way possible
Thank you for sacrificing yourself. That probably took ages and a lot of patience. Again, thank you for all your efforts to make this channel as great as it has become ♡
48:48 Nik Nak is the drama and stage expert and does a performance like that at such an important moment 😅 he was big bothered
58:40 my god that broke my heart her sobbing is heartbreak
Thinking about the automated puppets I recall Daisy telling kookie to keep the others out of the laundry room. So the automated puppets were given sentience but it seems as if they don't require a host (unless the people are squashed up in the boxes). And they don't have the same sort of murderous personality as the main 4 due to not being made by Owen but more robotic thanks to being made by Mark(?) And imb.
I think those puppets are just well automatic puppets Considering their voices Are more robotic than realistic
It's kind of interesting to note that for all the talk she does about not liking feelings and being all rational, Riley is the only puppet who's actually kind:
-Mortimer is well, Mortimer.
I honestly felt kind of bad for her in this game, and especially Riley too. Riley seemed like a wrathful monster in the first game, but this prequel showed a whole different side of her, and as you said, I agree... she really did show some kind of kindness, even if it was in some... twisted ways. (Like trying to comfort Daisy that everything will be okay *and* that she'll get more human hosts, lol)
Her heartache for Rosco and her genuine concern for Daisy was honestly amazing and totally unexpected imo.
This story is incredibly interesting a everyone's voice acting is just fabulous. What a great game, thanks for the playthrough Superhorrorbro 💜
I got very excited when I saw this video was posted - I'm in awe at how much work you've done with this game to gather all the secrets.
I wish we could see the puppets interact with each other more and see when the rift between the prequel and how they ended up happened
And as much as I’d sooner take a flamethrower to those demonic piles of termite food I feel bad for Nick Nack being manipulated from multiple sides and well that threat from Daisy
Daisy didn't actually die in the 1st game, but she is definitely not the same.
Oooo that rhymed!
@@rainischalk-late3540 While I guess daisy’s development wasn’t in check, they made sure that the game wasn’t as bad as heck :3
Oo
He really went out and got everything. What a powermove.
