His index knuckle is actually at close to continental. But his index finger is not spread. Instead he uses a hammer grip which enables him to square up on impact and to move his wrist in a natural way during the swing. You can image search his backhand and see the hammer grip

bevel 2 is continental grip, which is the worst grip for a topspin 1hbh. I believe that it is fine for a 2hbh though.

@@-Munditimum- no problem! But I do recommend you use the traditional eastern backhand grip, which is easier than what Thiem is doing with his grip...
