    Messaging the customer for a rating really did work! I received two out of four quality bonuses. Thank you 🌸 Here's a tip for you. Park your car by the shopping cart return, so when you're done loading your car, the cart return is right next to you. 🌠

      Nah, I park wherever I want and i put the cart wherever I want. Stores always send baggers out to round up carts when it's slow, it's not my job to put it in the corral. Some stores have people that do nothing but carts. I used to do that in the winter when I was a kid. Parking next to a cart corral just increases the chance your car is going to get dinged by someone hucking their cart towards the corral and it misses and hits your car instead.

    Hey Chad. I have never had anyone go through their order at the door, however I have had an order refused. How would I go about refunding the item or order? In the past with the orders that were refused (one was one item and customer said it wasn’t right, which meant they ordered the wrong thing, and the other was a double order, not sure whose mistake it was, but in both cases I called instacart).
    I do know that we can keep items that are refused, but have never “refunded “ at delivery.
    1) how do you do that?
    2)how do you ensure you are paid for the delivery?

      Call Shopper Happiness. They're you're lifeline. They suck, but they're the only ones that can anything to help you.

      Well for the incidents I mentioned, I did call Instacart. But, I thought there may be a way to refund specific items through the app without calling them. As I understand, they are or have discontinued the ability to call Shopper Happiness and it is now only via text. Not sure, since I really don’t call them often.

      No. You have to keep these on a text app like notepad.

    A customer CAN add to their order once you start shopping. They must have changed that. I've been an IC shopper for 5 weeks and my first experience with that was when I accepted what I thought was gonna be a really quick order. When I accepted the batch (bitch) it was for 6 cases of water. By the time I get to the store she had added a few more items, which I was well aware the customer could do. AFTER I started shopping she added several more things which I thought she couldn't do - coffee maker, waffle maker, air fryer (had to get another cart). I was very new and didn't want to tell her to stop adding to her cart. I was in there forever. Then her card declined and that took a while. The customer's tab was $532 and she tipped $2. I was too out done! Plus, your time doesn't get extended when items are added.

    how do you add and save more than one custom greeting/message? I dont see where i can do that or do you save to your notes?

      Use keyboard text replacements that are part of your phone’s operating system. That way you just type a few random characters and it will fill it in with a paragraph automatically.

    Second message:
    Hi, this is Chad your Instacart delivery driver. 🥕🚚. I am leaving the store now. You can follow my location on the mobile app. 📲 I will be in a white Honda Fit.
    FYI: Instacart occasionally combines multiple deliveries on a route. There could be 1 or 2 dropoffs ahead of yours.
    Thank you for your order and your generous tip! If you feel that I have provided you with great service, please tap ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I hope you enjoy your purchase and have a great day. 🤩👍🏻

    I’ll usually do something similar, if I see they have a liquor order, I’ll offer to grab some olives or celery if I notice they have most of the ingredients for a Bloody Mary, same goes for margaritas etc etc…. I also leave a hand written personal card with every order thanking the customer. Easy money…

      True i do the same , but I try to also not bug them too much like most of the time they ordered everything they need.
      I just say

    Could you do a video for on demand batches and the pros and cons vs. having scheduled hours? It's been hit or miss lately being scheduled in my experience.

      I hardly ever see OD batches anymore either. They either need to abolish the OD queue entirely or abolish hours. Hybrid zones suck.

      @@GigTube Weird. I do a lot better with OD lately. There's almost always stuff up now unlike when I'm scheduled. I just got my first batch to a Rollins College student. 10 items for $12.39 and mileage about 6.5 miles all together so not bad.

      Yeah I have "if you want to add or delete items let me know" on the welcome message. If people are worried about their produce they'll put a note on it. Otherwise I just get the ripest stuff.

    What do you think about adding a reminder for the customer to remember to leave feedback? I get a significant amount of customer that don’t leave feedback and I feel like they need a reminder. (I wish I could remind them to leave a freakin’ tip as well, but I think that would probably be frowned upon lol)
    I create my own personal messages with emojis as well. To add an extra bit of personality I also use a font app to use a bolder font in order to stand out from the rest and create memorability. Seems to be working well…

      I know you have probably answered this before, is there a way to copy your messages you use to use then, we can customize for our selves. Also do you title them so you know what one to choose faster? I am 68 years old and not every savy on the teck stuff. I havent worked in nearly ten years and have been doing this almost 2 months . It is hard for me but I like getting out everyday and having a job.

    Your communication have done so much for me. I hated the preloaded texts. Make you feel just the cog moving through app. Instead I feel happy to be able to show my personality. It wasn’t until I saw this post that I was able to have control over what I am presented as.

    Do you wait for them to go through all of their groceries to check for refunds, damage and returns? I don’t really see this being time efficient on our end because it slows us down on completing the delivery and getting more orders.

      Each insulated bag costs $5. So if you want to spend about $200 a day on insulated bags I’d say yes take your bag with you when you leave.

    I live and do full service shopping in NH, can I travel to Florida while on vacation and still work for instacart down there?

      The whole point of vacation is to NOT work! If you want to work why don't you stay home? Technically yes you can work but are you going to bring your insulated bags with you? If not, are you going buy some while you're down here or are you going to risk deactivation and not use insulated bags? Will your rental car insurance policy cover you if you get into an accident while performing commercial operations? Do you know where the high-paying neighborhoods and dangerous neighborhoods are? I never understand why people want to work while they're on vacation.

    I want to use the Text Replacement keyboard shortcuts you describe but when I paste my message from the Notes app to the Text Replacement field all my line returns disappear. When I use the shortcut the message all runs together. Is there a way to add a hard return so the blank line stays?

      I have a galaxy s8 active. I just googled how to create text short cuts. Works for me! You just type a phrase and your whole message shows up in predictive text. Makes sending messages so much easier. Thanks for the tips Chad. You've helped me get started!

    I sent the messages. It’s a good idea. But my first customer today seemed annoyed that I was texting him. There were. Few questions I needed answered and when I gave options all he would reply was, ‘sure’ or ‘fine’. Not helpful. Can you do a video on how to handle strange and common customer interactions? Thanks.

    Hi Chad, this was awesome. I just received my Instacart payment card today. Your videos are helping me get ready. I have one question. You send all of this information right after you leave the store? You mention, "Do not swipe complete delivery until you send this" The text started with, "It was a pleasure... and so on. So, in other words this person doesn't see you yet.

      it shows which stores are receiving the most orders. They're kind of a tease, though. Sometimes they can have 9 blocks around them and you'll get a $7 1 bag delivery only batch (or nothing at all). I'll do a whole video about that sometime.

      It depends on the value of the item[s]. If it's worth more than $10, IC will give you a $10 bump to return it to the store. You just have to call them and tell them you want to do that, first. If it's worth less than $10 or you'd rather keep it for yourself (or donate it), then just take it with you. If you read the training materials in the Shopper app - all this is covered.

    Keep in mind, those who order from Kroger's website, may not have the app, so they can't track your location or receive messages from you. They also can't edit their tip..

      No idea how Kroger's works, but I'd encourage all your customers to download the Instacart app. Publix has their own delivery app but it's literally just the instacart app with only the option to buy from publix. I'd imagine Kroger works similarly.

    Chad it is against policy to ask for ratings or about tips. The other lady kimberly who told you this is telling the truth. Ask a knowledgeable chat support agent and they will tell you this. Instacart dude who also has a TH-cam channel who's been shopping for Instacart for several years says the same thing. Also asking for a rating can actually backfire and get you a 4 star rating from someone who originally wasnt planning to rate you at all. As for tips even food servers bartenders are not allowed to mention tips whatsoever without being fired with Instacart its no different it would be considered a breach of contract which can get you deactivated. If you want good tips just wait and accept the higher paying batches thats the wonderful benefit of being an independent contractor.

      Nothing says you will get deactivated if you don't deliver the groceries ether why not try it an see what happens. The answer is nothing will happen until a customer complains about you then they will take action that includes complaining that you asked for a rating or tips.

      Actually if you read the contract (which you clearly haven't) it DOES indeed say that failure to deliver orders is grounds for deactivation.
      So I'll encourage you again to actually read the contract you signed and show me where it says asking for tips is verboten.

      Hmmm.. not sure if trolling or just a complete moron.
      First of all, I've analyzed every batch I've ever done and I don't see any connection between high tips and low batch payments. Batch payments are mostly based on miles (not items or units) and have been low across the board for a while now.
      Secondly, even if that were true, the batch payment is still based on the customer's PRE-tip. If the customer increases their in-app tip after delivery, Instacart doesn't lower their batch payment. Not only would it be a breach of the contract, but I'm sure it would violate standard labor laws.
      These messages tend to get customers to bump-up their in-app tip or to give you additional cash tip at the door.
      Sorry you're too stupid to understand how it works.
