I remember being at this match. You didn't even talk about the craziest part of that team which was their warmup! They would do handstand walks from the endline to the 10-ft line and back while screaming. Still remember that warmup 15 years later.

All the other “haikyuu in real life” videos are just clips of super fast quicks or sick nasty dive saves but THIS video in my opinion is what the phrase “in real life” really means when applied to haikyuu. You also explained it perfectly, the show tells a story about a kid who loves and wants to play this sport despite the fact that he’s considered “too short”, and he excels at it anyway, and it teaches us all to never count the odd ones out. Great video as usual man, I’m gonna go ask my friends if they want to practice some cool combos :)

what Haikyuu does really well that other sports animes do not (like Kuroko’s basketball or bluelock) is embelish and dramatize the sport to make it exciting, but keep it grounded in reality. No one has fantastical powers that they are using to win - they are just practicing and evolving. It is obvious as a viewer even if you don’t know anything about volleyball that the things that you see in the show could happen in reality - and that’s how I went from someone who never cared about volleyball to watching IRL volleyball moves and tutorials, I wanted to see haikyuu IRL. Thanks for making this it was perfect!

I was never interested in volleyball because of how I could barely reach the top of the net when we had volleyball in PE and I'm only 5'1. I love sports but I just gave up on even trying out volleyball from the very beginning because I thought there's no way I could play volleyball properly with my height. And then came Haikyuu. I thought "It's just about volleyball and this sport just isn't for me". But then I learned that Hinata was only a bit taller and he can spike just fine. I thought "Well, it's an anime so it's probably exaggerated" but googled the highest vertical jump anyway and turns out it's very well possible to jump that high. And I never knew volleyball was so much fun before I watched Haikyuu. Now I also follow real life volleyball matches. One of my favorite quotes from Haikyuu is *"I am built upon the small things I do every day."*
I got really lazy during the pandemic but I have started to workout daily recently (especiall working to jump higher). I don't know if I can jump like Hinata one day but I am built upon the small things I do every day so it feels good either way to just keep going. "He who would climb a ladder must begin at the bottom". If you aspire something, don't be afraid to do it. Just start doing it, day by day, step by step and you'll surely be better than you were yesterday.
I love Haikyuu because aside from volleyball it shows so many important aspects about life and growing up, especially if you're all caught up to the manga (it's not just about volleyball at all). Haikyuu reminded me of a lot of important mindsets in life and taught me many new ones. I wished I had come across this story when I was still in school. It's truly worth a read for anyone. Please read/watch Haikyuu!!

I used to play a lot in my early years at uni. After repeated shoulder injuries I stopped playing, due to a mix of an unstable joint and plain fear of hurting myself again. But this show is just so full of energy and love for the sport that it gave me the drive to work on myself, build muscle and at least try to play again someday. Not at a high level or anything, but just for fun. Because volleyball is worth it.

In highschool the team I was on was pretty standard and I only learned the basics. Once I went to Japan I entered a whole new world of volleyball. Met guys a foot shorter who could jump as high as me and crush the ball. Guys who were lightning fast and seemed to pick up any spike I hit towards them. It caused me to fine-tune what I liked and (more importantly) try out new things. Don't get stuck in a volleyball bubble. Watch new things, play with new people, and you will always improve your game.

Great video and selection of comparative clips between the show and your HS match! Regarding the growth of volleyball, In Japan specifically. I couldn't find an article that brokedown the sudden growth of Japanese volleyball crediting Haikyuu as one its contributors. During the 2010's, when the show first appeared, there was massive growth of kids signing up for volleyball and the number of team members in a single team were outstanding. An amazing turnaround since it was just a year or two prior to the show, that school teams were even struggling to get enough sign ups. I used to mock volleyball when I was younger, but man I was so wrong. The anime has turned me into a volleyball fan and I am thoroughly enjoying this season's VNL games!

Incredible job on this video, really loved it. It must have been so cool to have a chance to play against such a unique playstyle at a high school level. I hope you you will follow new haikuu seasons when they come out because best parts of the story are just yet to be shown. (there are still around 36 episodes left to be adapted)

Great video!! Haikyuu resparked my love for volleyball as well, especially during a time when I was losing motivation, since I, as a freshman, felt like I couldn't improve, especially among all the other more skilled varsity players. I liked volleyball in middle school because it was something that I was good at (at that level), but after watching Haikyuu, I learned that there's so much more to volleyball than I thought there was, and after seeing the passion in Karasuno and other teams to improve, grow, and ultimately win, it lit up my passion as well!

New viewer here!! This was such a good video! Interesting story from you, and I feel lucky to have seen your old match with side by side comparisons of Haikyuu!! And what you said in the end about the impact and beauty of this anime/manga - couldnt have said it better.

The editing was INSANE 👏👏, congradution guys. The reason i got interested in Volleyball and eventually found this channel was because of Haikyuu (even beach volleyball was because of haikyuu hahaha). I started watching the show 4 years ago and since then i'm OBSESSED about a sport that i used to see as super boring. And i'm still hoping to play one day.
Because is like you said, is Volleyball but it could be any other sport, the core of the story is the conflict and the growth, passion, and bond between the characters.
And Volleyball have this weird, symbolically beautiful, and rare way of connecting people by the structure of the sport; the players and plays are connected like the series loves to say.

Haikyuu is the reason I joined a rec volley ball team in my late 20’s. I did not play it in school, I was short (shocker still am) and in my head only tall kids played volleyball. Love playing it now. Great video, I’ll watch a few more and you may have a new sub. Cheers!

Our 1st year men's team at The Master's University took a picture in the same pose as the Haikyuu team picture. We had a few undersized players who were very strong physically & determined to dominate their much bigger competition. The season didn't go as planned, but as a coach it was exciting to watch those young men come together & put forth some incredible effort, play some amazing games & create moments I won't ever forget. But their passion for Haikyuu will definitely be something that will forever be linked with that great group of young men. I'm always exploring ways as a coach to teach players how to take their game to the next level & play with supreme confidence. I'm always mesmerized by teams that include a lot of movement offensively with their attack. Absolutely love trying to incorporate the international game into the sport here in the states. Love the limitless creativity you can explore as a coach & as a player. Great variety of volleyball content guys!!!

This show is the reason i want to start playing volleyball. I’ve never seen a sport like it. I’ve played rugby my whole life, and it doesn’t come close to the team play that’s required for volleyball. So glad I watched this show, and saw the awesome sport!
