This lyric is a reference to the Boston Tea Party of November 1773, which was a rebuke of the Tea Act that levied taxes on British tea entering the colonies. The people of Boston dressed themselves as Mohawks during the Boston Tea Party to distract British merchants from unloading more boxes of British tea into Boston Harbor, and after the tea party, a furious King George III in 1774 had Parliament pass the Intolerable Acts whereby: (1) Boston harbor was shut down until the Bostoners paid reparations for dumping the tea into the Harbor; (2) the colonial governor of Massachusetts would order trials of accused royal officials to take place in Great Britain if he decided that the defendant could not get a fair trial in Massachusetts; (3) the British crown had the sole discretion of appointing officials within the Massachusetts colonial gov't, not the colonial governor; and (4) ordering British troops to be quartered in colonial homes.

A president's just a single executive officer. We should be electing a Congress that does what we want. But that's why no president has been decent in over 40 years, because we keep electing idiots and half the time nobody cares who is elected to Congress, even though their racket (career politicians) is what is grooming such poor presidential candidates to be what they are.

The simple catchy tunes stayed in my head. Even today, when I recite the preamble of the constitution, more often than not, I hear it in my head with the School House Rock music.

Colonial Americans didn't revolt because they're taxes were too high-the taxes in the American colonies were actually among the lowest in the entire British Empire. What DID drive them into revolution was that these taxes were being imposed unilaterally without them having any say, and that they're attempts to protest by seeking representation in the British government had been denied-and, further, their attempts to protest peacefully by boycotting British goods had been stifled forcefully by blockading they're harbors and seizing they're ships. It came down to them saying "We're being treated like a separate nation, so we may as well be one!" not "Our taxes are too high!"

TheAres1999 Here's another good one for ya: one day one of Jesus' acolytes asked him whether or not they still had to pay taxes since, after all, they were choosing to follow God and not the government of Rome. Jesus replied "Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's and unto God what is God's." In other words, "Just pay your stinking taxes like everyone else." Not too long afterward he was crucified.

I say that the problem was that England forgot what kind of colonists they were. They were treated like conquered colonists rather than English citizens who settled else where.

    • @dkupke
      @dkupke 10 ปีที่แล้ว +17

cgaskill13 That's my point. It wasn't "Our taxes are too high so we want out of the Empire," it was "We're being treated like a separate country-so we are going to be one." Had the British government of the time allowed the colonies to elect representatives to to Royal Court, odds are we would be in a position similar to Canada today-nominally independent but still acknowledging the monarch as our head of state.

    LYRICS FOR "NO MORE KINGS"
    Rockin' and a-rollin' , splishin' and a- splashin' ,
Over the horizon, what can it be?
The pilgrims sailed the sea to find a place to call their own.
    In their ship MayFlower,
They hoped to find a better home.
    They finally knocked
    On Plymouth Rock
    and someone said "We're There!"
It may not look like home
but at this point i dont care!
Oh they were missing Mother England, They swore their loyalty until the very end.
    Anything you say, King,
    its OK, King ,
You know its kinda scary on your own. Gonna build a new land
    The way we planned
Could you help us run till its grown?
    They planted corn, you know
They built their houses one by one,
And bit by bit they worked
    Until the colonies were done.
    They looked around,
    Yeah, up and down
    And someone said "Hurray!"
If the king could only see us now
He would be proud of us today.
    CONTINUED...

they knew they'd run their own land,
But George the Third still vowed
He'd rule them till the end.
Anything i say, do it my way now
Anything i say, do it my way.
      Dont get to feeling independent
'Cause I'm gonna force you to obey!
      He taxed their property,
He didn't give them any choice
      And back in England
He didn't give them any voice.
(thats called taxation without representation, and its not fair!)
      But when the colonies complained
The king said: "I don't Care!"
      He even has the nerve
To tax our cup of tea
      To put it kindly, King,
      We really don't agree
Gonna show you how we feel.
      We're gonna dump this tea
      And turn this harbor into
The biggest cup of tea in history!
They wanted mo more Mother England.
They knew the time would come
      For them to take command.
Its very clear you're being unfair, king,
No matter what you say, we wont obey.
Gonna hold a revolution now, king,
And we're gonna run it all our way
      With no more Kings...
