Day I turn 18 im heading to basic and when i go to meps im getting this job ive wnted when i was 5 lost intrest when i was 10 and gained intrest again when i turn 14

i went to a recruitment office and was told this mos no longer exists. if a contract were to open i would sign in a heart beat.
It’s still available this is the mos I picked
I just picked this job and leave in January. It exists but it's super rare for spots to open up.

I want to join the u.s.a army but my friends and there mom and dad don't want to join the u.s.a army but I want to join so badly and I been wanting to join for a long time now I been watching TH-cam videos how to join the u.s.a army videos but I'm 25 years old I should make decision for myself right what feel like joining the u.s.a army be like and I always wanted a dog too

Unless it’s classified info; Canines are intelligent. Can they be used for stealth missions where a growl can be a big thing to show the power of military and police k9’s?

How long does it take or what does it take to become a dog handler in the army.. I am considering singing up for 31k..
I’m leaving this coming January for basic training then soon to leave for AIT for my MOS - 31K🎉
I actually went into MEPS not planning to sign a contract for 31K but for 31B. I was always told by my Recruiters that it was essentially impossible to get this Job because it’s so “rare”. ( not impossible just not likely )
Lucky me they had one slot available. I scored a 75 on my ASVAB , I’m sure that helped me secure this MOS but I’m not entirely sure about the requirements you need to meet.
If you really want this MOS then you will need to make it clear to your recruiter that you want it and even if there isn’t a slot available then you can always tell them you want to wait.

1. How long was your contract or what where the contract length options for 31k mos?
2.Compared to Civilian/LEO/Private sector dog handlers how much more experience or opportunities do you get? Im referring to Special courses, Training,Actual finds,Live bites,actually understanding changes oh behavior/Dog psychology.
3. Is it worth joining as a 31k and once out of the military try to do police or other civilian k9 opportunities or should I just try to do the civilian k9 handler options right away instead. I currently have a 6 figure job with pension and benefits but would like to make a career change and be happy….. Just trying to see if its worth joining and will the military make me a better dog handler then if I were to go straight into leo/private sector as a dog handler.

You don't want one of those dogs unless you're able to work it properly... they're not toys or pets.
True, though they are retired after their duty is fulfilled but they require special maintenance because of their past work.

I'm a current active duty 31B (Military Police), currently stationed in Korea, from what I hear from many military working dog handlers is that its a difficult MOS to even find an opening for, since this particular job is always sought for and the positions get filled easily and that the MOS range itself is small. And there's only squad sized to platoon sized Military working dog soldiers per base handlers at best.

not impossible, i reclassed back in December and i asked if it was a thing and i was lucky enough to get the slot. rare yes but if you time it right or keep asking ur career counselor about slots you can get it. they said its like 4 in the entire army per physical year so good luck!

@@Deimos333I want to either go into the usmc as an MP or army as an MP. Do you like being an MP? Do you do a lot of front gate duty or do you get to do alot of patrolling and responding to calls? I only want to do it if it’s mostly patrolling/responding to calls.
