The Marble cake has origin in Germany, but it’s really common in a lot of cities in Portugal to have them with a checkerboard pattern! You should try cooking other Portuguese cakes!
I'm from portugal and in my hoouse we use nesquik everytime we do a chocolate cake! I just think that looked like a lot of flour compared to what we use but i dont know that particular recipe! We use tea cups or something small like that for dry ingredients! hope this helps
You were probably supposed to use crisco as in lard (or vegetable shortening if you want it to be vegetarian) but I have no idea how nesquick would give it a proper chocolate swirl lol. If you want it more chocolatey maybe add real cocoa powder in with the nesquick?

Sierra your cake looks pretty good! One suggestion from an avid baker, almond milk is way different in flavor and consistency than regular milk, so it’s kinda hard to sub them out for one another!
Didn’t go through ALL the comments but Crisco is a brand of shortening. It’s a white color which would’ve help give your cake the more distinct coloring!
A few tips: Use measuring cups (not a liquid measuring cup), don't shake the flour because you're packing it down which essentially adds more flour than needed (I take a spoon and scoop the flour in the cup so I'm not packing it in), and last but not least bake with LOVE and everything else will fall into place
