Reverb is getting tough to sell at as well. I tend to post a listing for below average and don't say I accept offers because you're inundated with low ballers. If someone is truly interested they will message an offer that is USUALLY reasonable. I buy to see what I like, and if it doesn't inspire me I sell. Great content fellers!!! Oh yea its Pale Rider and Honkey Tonk man, the one with the orangutan (monkey) is Every Which Way But Loose.

I mean for people like me a Spark 40 amp maybe a good cab a basic board with your style pedals, a good-bones budget guitar in every body type I like modded the way I like is a way better guitar choice than something high dollar with a certain name tag on it out of the box. brand no longer means quality and aggressive new companies are blowing away top brands of yesteryear at a fraction of the cost. I stopped trying to sell off guitar stuff. people are impossible these days and not worth the stress. it is not worth the time resources and headache I try not to buy anything I don't really need or want. which saves me money and prevents fomo regret buying I throw away anything that I hate, broken, or unfixable in the trash. if I buy something I don't like I take the hit call myself a moron and move on. if a friend wanted to buy something I'd maybe sell it to them but id prob just give it to them for free
The thing stores used to try and pull on me all the time when I was a kid... They'd say they'd accept the trade-in, then take that off the price of the new one I was purchasing. But then when they'd bring the invoice out, they'd be deducting it from the LIST price, not the shown price. So in the end, it was usually like you were just giving away your guitar.
Must have been 48th street in manhattan. They used to offer $100 for any thing that came in the door. They’d rob an old lady to score a guitar from an unsuspecting kid
I prefer to sell privately anyway, but it's indicative of the fact that a boom can only last so long, and once a boom ends, there's a valley. It's a buyers market for a little while.
Reminds me of the time back in '21 when I wanted to trade in a like-new $1200 bass for an upgrade. I was hoping for $500 - $600, Guitar Center offered me $200 for it, then I sold it on Craigslist 2 days later for $900. Guess where I DIDN'T buy the new bass from 😂
I love my local shop, thank you, Dana. Multiple times, they have pointed me in the right direction. I bought a Les Paul from Encore Music, 3 or 4 months later I came into the store and he led me to a 1961 J45 which is now beside me. They took my Les Paul in, and he took it for exactly what I paid. Casino Guitars must be the only music channel with bonus railway noises! It always catches me out until I remember Google Earth shows the track running up the middle of the street outside the front door of the shop. 😎
8:13 I like the one called Every Which Way But Used where the guitar shop clerk told the broke musician "sorry, we can't take that. Right turn, Clyde!"
Thanks for that exploration. I especially appreciated that you guys discussed both sides of the story. There's a reality to buying and selling just about anything - supply and demand.
I’m sure I’ve recounted this tale in the comments of a prior video but…. I took some things to GC to see about trading towards a guitar they had. I didn’t expect much. But the offers they gave me on the things they were actually interested in were hilarious. One of the eBay listings this cat referenced for valuation of my guitar turned out to be a husk of a POS with a headstock break that looked like it was repaired by mud daubers. With no tuners. I found the listing he was looking at when I got home and I couldn’t believe it. The guitar in the listing looked like it had been dragged behind a garbage truck and then tossed into the flood waters of Katrina. Based on that, he offered me $40 on a ‘90s Epiphone acoustic made in the same Nippon Gakki factory as the red label Yamahas of the late ‘60s and early’70s with a great finish, perfect neck and frets and good tone. 😂
I was going to trade an ultra tele for a Brent mason tele. My offer was just flat out ignorant at 500$. I left with my ultra and bought the Brent mason used for 2g delivered and still have the ultra. I'm totally aware people need to make a living but that was a shop that will never get a dollar from me. With that said I have decided to just keep what I buy!
Usually if the shop offers you $300 for a guitar, if you walk in a week later they will have it priced at $1000 plus and snicker about how little they paid you for it.
Years ago I bought a new classic series fender strat for around $800. Couple years later I took it to GC to see what they would give me for it. The guitar still looked new, but the guy at the counter said they could only give me half of the used value. I would have only received $250 from my initial $800. Giving the guitar away wasn't my plan, so I walked and sold it on reverb.
I don't like buying or selling privately... too much work and too stressful... I've made two trades with Casino and felt treated more than fairly... As Baxter suggests, in a trade-in, you've got to expect to take a bit of a haircut, but it was worth it to me... move forward, don't look back... thanks again, again guys!
Yeah, facebook marketplace is a great idea if you want to get lowballed, verbally abused, or maybe someone wants you to deliver it to the sketchiest street in town late at night because of their work schedule, and not at all because they're planning to stab you or anything.
I saw an Ormsby 8 string on sale at a shop for 20% last year that had been listed for over a year. I put in an offer for half off the original price and they sold it. Great guitar for a great deal. It is a chambered shark one
I purchased a Private Stock PRS from a big dealer in Chicago. After a couple years I wanted to trade it back to them for another high end guitar. They quoted me a price they’d give me for it. After they received my trade they changed their offer to 40% less than their initial offer. The guitar was in super shape. I considered it a scam and eventually got the deal undone. No more business with those guys. Buyer beware.
@@vorpalblades I’m not exactly new at this. I was prepared to take a bite from new and it was worth it to move on for me. Picking a favorite Clint Eastwood film is a challenge. After many decades of watching The Good Bad & The Ugly, I’ve never been disappointed. That said … I’m addicted to Reverb and have found many great used guitars. Just find a model you dig and look for one that’s Very Good with obvious scratches and has been up for over 6 months. At least, that’s where I found some great deals like a ‘92 Taylor 555 12-string jumbo in phenomenal shape for $1250. Like the one in Rust Never Sleeps.
So I started my guitar collection through Reverb. I took about $1500. I saved up and I would try to find those holy Grail gems and make lower offers than what I knew. The guitar was worth and I would buy it then I would resell it at a few local Guitar shops and try to make between two and $500 more that was my goal. I did that to the point That I was able to continually save and up the Annie on the Guitar purchases and I eventually got some crazy Guitars and then when I got tired them felt like I just want something. I truly truly needed or just always have my high on. I would sell it and now I have a select you and I’m very fortunate to Have
A fascinating video. The situation in the UK is very similar. On a side note, the BBC isn't strictly speaking state-run. It's state funded through the licence fee but is independent of the state. By statute, it has to be politically unbiased - although that is often disputed by both right and left wing politicians.
If you don't mind waiting a short amount of time, Sweetwater's gear exchange will give you a gift card with no fees deducted when you sell through them. You can also buy your shipping label at a discount. I sold a EVH Wolfgang for $750 and was able to keep all the money which I applied my gift card to another guitar. Much better than being low balled at GC!
I feel fortunate that a local shop treats people like people. I went in knowing there needs to beeat left on the bone for them. Traded a nice nylon string Yamaha for a Gretsch 5410 Rat Rod that both listed for the same price plus $100 . I didnt really play the nylon string, so everyone won as far as I'm concerned.

My offers on reverb reflect what I think I can get on the street for it. I’m okay with a small loss, but not a big one. I’m sure it annoys some sellers, but who’s out to take a risk on a used instrument you’ve never tried at a potential loss?
Joker 2 was not great, but i still had plenty of laughs with a buddy. Your enjoyment may vary depending if you like/hate musicals. I dont mind musicals, although the number of songs was excessive and kinda tiring. The ending was the dealbreaker for me though. The Penguin tv show on the other hand has been absolutely fantastic so far!
People are putting the items on reverb they dont plan to sell. Prices are so high that if it sells great, but if it does not sell...well...thats fine to. Make sense?
Iv got a 1974 solid body not plywood ampeg get100 with bigsby style trem and original patent pending maxon pickups and you could hit a home run with it drop it on the floor and fall off stage with it and it would still be in tune better than any gibson and I only paid $390 for it 3 years ago and now people are asking a grand for the same guitar nuts
I've seen both of those movies. Joker 2 is an interesting film saddled with an ending that is probably ruining the movie for many fans, hence the low ratings, etc.. Megalopolis comes right out & says that it's a fable, so you can't expect a typical movie. They both will require more than 1 viewing.
Guitar Center offered me $300 for a German Warwick bass when new ones sell for $3000 sold it for what I paid and everyone’s happy and yes I won’t be buying anything from them 🤫
I hate how these guys treat customers too. they talk down to you, as if you are some dumbass kid. i only shop a a couple stores here in Canada now, and i hope the rest go under
I know the new Joker got really bad reviews, but I actually really enjoyed it, but I’m kinda of quirky and like dark, depressing, nihilistic musicals 😉
So are they Re-Vultures, or VultureVerbs?! Also, do you have any UkeTars that have just been sitting around? I've been looking for years now. (hee, hee, hee) PS, I'm scared to leave comments down here in the comments. I think I accidentally offended a certain person there at Casino one day and I saw Jonathan and Shawn talking about "why would that guy say that to me?" or something like that on the Wed. live show. They didn't SAY who it was, but if'n it was me Jonathan, (oops) I'm really sorry man. And if'n it wasn't me. Good, cause I love sewin' the seeds of Kaos in the chat! lol Just think, I once thought that the guitars that came from Sears and Montgomery Wards were just junk. I sure wish I had them now.
Pale rider. On the western. But I get it. Flooded markets are not the time to sell your precious fender squire from china. Not saying it’s a bad instrument. Just not really a mover when there’s 20 on the wall already.
I understand the idea of taking a haircut, but some shops just want to rip you off. Guitar Denter is one of the worst in my experience. I would rather sell on consignment at a local shop i trust. It generally works out for everyone.
Trades are currently being low balled. My strategy is to just sit on all my shit and let inflation happen. I know i wont get true value, but I'll get my number. Otherwise I'm going to network my guitars to see if I can get close to a Reverb-type like "Ask"
The only thing cringier than “content creator“, is “content creators” cringing at the idea that they’re “content creators” lol. You’re all “content creators”, and you al do it, so just embrace it 🤣 You guys are great btw. Just ball bustin
Phase 3 of the guitar apocalypse is happening. I predict at this time next year, we'll be longing for the good ole days, that we're these last 5 years. Batten down the latches, in this case. Literally. Cause we're heading into some uncharted territory. Sweetwater has already started a new sales strategy. Where certain select old stock models, have little sales flags attached to them. That say "contact your SE for special discount pricing". The new models are starting to roll out. There's deals to be had. Prices will ALL be going up again soon. Peace!
you're better off going to the GC dumpster grabbing a box and listing your guitar on reverb at the lowest price and you're still getting 30-40% more than the trade in value.
Behavioural economists call it the endowment effect: an individual places a higher value on an object they own than an identical object they do not own.
I’ve done okay with Craigslist on both the buy and sell side. Face to face, cash only. Any inkling of sketchy, move on. Still tho, it’s often an annoying PITA and I have cut way back on gear churn.
If you are selling a used guitar you took on trade for $1169.00, you probably got $300.00 to $500.00 in it. If someone comes in and wants to trade a $600.00 guitar on it you will offer $200.00 for the trade. You just got a free guitar. No offense intended.
Some of those 50% offers are because with shipping people are asking literally more than the instrument currently costs new - on the SAME site. The fact that you paid a premium during the plandemic does not increase its value.
Basically you can't get anything for your gear anymore. The fact that Reverb is reporting your sales to the IRS so you can pay income tax on the gear you are selling at a loss is mind blowing. I guess just donate to charity
My local shop never took trade ins, they'd just tell people to go to GC and bring back the money. lol. It worked. I'm sure it's a risk losing a sale but most people were loyal to the shop. I know I was sometimes buying from shops that took trade ins though.

My local store will gladly take a 59 LP for trade in or outright buy. For pennys for their collection.
My locals never did trade ins even during the boom lol, theyd even tell you to go to GC because youd get better value from them
I've seen both of those movies. Joker 2 is an interesting film saddled with an ending that is probably ruining the movie for many fans, hence the low ratings, etc.. Megalopolis comes right out & says that it's a fable, so you can't expect a typical movie. They both will require more than 1 viewing.
If you watch Joker 2 carefully, you'll figure out why the bad ending really isn't bad.
Sh*tter's full!!!!!
Guitar Center offered me $300 for a German Warwick bass when new ones sell for $3000 sold it for what I paid and everyone’s happy and yes I won’t be buying anything from them 🤫
I hate how these guys treat customers too. they talk down to you, as if you are some dumbass kid. i only shop a a couple stores here in Canada now, and i hope the rest go under
Is the name of the Clint Eastwood movie, “pale Rider?? “
The Movie is Pale Rider. WooF!!🐶🐶
I know the new Joker got really bad reviews, but I actually really enjoyed it, but I’m kinda of quirky and like dark, depressing, nihilistic musicals 😉
I have sold about ten things on reverb and seventy percent was boughtby small stores
Ok. I’m good with this video.
Speaking of uke’s - check out Uke Hunt. Great Uke artist :)
Otherwise I'm going to network my guitars to see if I can get close to a Reverb-type like "Ask"
eBay fees are ridiculous. I sold something for $400 and they took $60 if it in fees.
The only thing cringier than “content creator“, is “content creators” cringing at the idea that they’re “content creators” lol. You’re all “content creators”, and you al do it, so just embrace it 🤣 You guys are great btw. Just ball bustin
I'll just sell my used guitars myself on reverb or Sweetwater and get what it's actually worth. It's really not that much trouble
My guitar center is getting incredible used gear all the sudden!!!
Pale Rider is the Clint Eastwood movie
Phase 3 of the guitar apocalypse is happening. I predict at this time next year, we'll be longing for the good ole days, that we're these last 5 years.
Batten down the latches, in this case. Literally. Cause we're heading into some uncharted territory. Sweetwater has already started a new sales strategy. Where certain select old stock models, have little sales flags attached to them. That say "contact your SE for special discount pricing".
The new models are starting to roll out.
There's deals to be had. Prices will ALL be going up again soon. Peace!
I knew Jonathan was rich….he’s very haughty.
you're better off going to the GC dumpster grabbing a box and listing your guitar on reverb at the lowest price and you're still getting 30-40% more than the trade in value.
Pale Rider is the movie
DAGGAR SHREDDER SO SICK MELTS FACES
Pale Rider, hope he’s hangin in there.
I think the movie is pale rider
Behavioural economists call it the endowment effect: an individual places a higher value on an object they own than an identical object they do not own.
Any Which Way But Loose is the one with the monkey.
"throw your arms around this honkytonk man"
I’ve done okay with Craigslist on both the buy and sell side.
10:58 NPR is but it isn't.... I am feeling spicy today.
THE GODDANG TURTLES
Basically you can't get anything for your gear anymore. The fact that Reverb is reporting your sales to the IRS so you can pay income tax on the gear you are selling at a loss is mind blowing. I guess just donate to charity
Don’t go see either movie seen them both left early at Metropolis. Joker forced myself to stay horrible movies although Audrey Plaza was quite great.
Let’s all get on reverb and low ball casino guitars for fun 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
NEXT TIME ON PAWN STARZ
I wanna trade a Martin 000-28 for a Gibson ES-335 🎉
Reverb has gone crazy
My local shop never took trade ins, they'd just tell people to go to GC and bring back the money. lol. It worked. I'm sure it's a risk losing a sale but most people were loyal to the shop. I know I was sometimes buying from shops that took trade ins though.
Pale Rider, btw.
