Brent, I realize that this is a video from December of last year but I still have to add my two cents. First, had you taken that corrugated sheet metal and made two walls held in place with the rocks and THEN built your fire (or even two firepits) on either side of the fire, the metal would have heated up to some extent. Also, first thing you learn in camping; you don't unroll your sleeping bag until you are ready to go into it so that the creepy crawlies won't have a chance to get in there before you do. There is always the chance they will come in as you sleep, but that can always happen... Also, if you use a bedsheet inside your sleeping bag you will not only be much warmer but much more comfortable as nylon is not the most comfortable material next to the skin. Finally, you should have built your night bivvy in the first stone structure that you came across; it still had remains of walls which would have served as a windbreak and would have supported a roof made of the corrugated sheet metal...
You have no idea how much your videos have helped me to deal with my loneliness. I have been struggling to be alone and seeing you so comfortable living such a happy life and not relying on other people to make you happy is really helping me.
I’ve been thinking about why I love your videos so much and why I watch and rewatch your videos and it’s not just the history and the beauty of the landscape but it’s because of you Brent. These videos have the feel of a diary with great wisdom thrown in. Watching the joy and heartbreak that you continue to go through because you’ve fallen in love is incredible
And maybe a sleeping pad too. Sleeping bags are temperature rated based on the insulation provided by a pad. You lose body heat mostly through the ground as it works like a giant heat sink.
Hi Brent - The first mine you found is called the "San Lucas Mine" and the deep shaft you found nearby actually connects to it. I sent you more information via Instagram. For example, 1.5 tons of ore was removed every 12 hours... Lastly, I believe you camped at the Belmont Mine. :)
I ll be honest. First watching Brent I thought he was lost and a bit bonkers. After watching many of his films I’m convinced he is neither. Such a genuine love of his surroundings is obvious. Brave and passionate guy.
Don’t get too confident with those mines always proceed with EXTREME CAUTION. I have seen some horrible things happen in Mines, closing in or sections completely collapsing just from a small vibration, especially if the wooden beams are worn down enough. Always Makesure someone you trust know your general location and know to come find you if you don’t answer in X AMT OF DAYS. Best wishes to you and your exploration! ✊🏽💪🏽 And always bring enough water if something happens, you can live without food for weeks but not water. Always want to be prepared for the worst come worst.
I think some of those locator beacons like the one he has have a feature where you can just send out a location ping sort of thing to specified contacts just to update them on where you are. I think it would be really good if he made it procedure to send one of those out at the entrance of each mine before entering so if something does happen someone will know the last mine he went into so that they know where to look. Maybe even leave a note at the entrance saying if he is inside and then update or take it down after leaving so that in the event he ever did get trapped in a mine people would know 100% he is in that mine and can focus search efforts and rescue there.

It always seemed like common sense to me that most people would hide their valuables inside buildings. Do it outside somewhere and you'd run the risk of someone seeing you hide or retrieve it whereas inside you could take your time away from prying eyes. So it makes sense to me to investigate the interior walls & floor for the mason jar full of gold nuggets. 💰

Keep in mind this area is basically above Death Valley, it's one of the most remote and hostile areas in the USA. Mostly because of the lack of water and extreme temperature swings. That said, vast areas of California and the Western USA, are basically empty. The rain shadow side of the Sierras and the Great Basin areas of Oregon Nevada, CA, and Utah, are similarly devoid of humanity. It is a wonderful area to get away.. if you dare.
If you visit remember it is called Death Valley for a very good reason . Many a European has found themselves in peril , due to the fact that they do not know how far and isolated it can be here , in North America .
Because trash used to be rare. We live in a disposable society. Everyone throws things away all the time. Back then people didn't throw out things that still worked. Trash has a whole different definition. A lot of these items were soiled or lost. And are now collectible because they were rare (creating low supply). Also we used to have trash and rubbish. Rubbish was usually burned. Only trash was thrown away. Now we throw it all away.

I am also from Cumbria (home of many interesting mines that I used to explore in my youth) and it warmed my heart to see Kendal Mint Cake. I brought some back to Wisconsin for my kids and my daughter hoarded it, forgot about it, and found it a year later in her rucksack. It was still perfectly edible. I used to take it caving in my late teens and early twenties… it fit perfectly above the cradle in my helmet. I’d love to visit Cerro Gordo and Death Valley at some point.
You are a great story teller, as many have mentioned. Amazon be damned. Your future books on Cerro Gordo, and owning a ghost town, will be bestsellers where it matters. With your followers/fans. You are destined for greatness.
I think you should go a day hike out in every direction and build a little camp in half a dozen spots. Carry some supplies there and leave them there. Then you can hike there lighter, and use these camps as a base camp to go another day's hike out to explore further. You could go to a thrift store and buy an old pot and some utensils really cheap to leave by the campfire. Leave some water, some flint, and some canned foods. Use the rocks and wood to make a shelter ready to sleep in for your next hike. Maybe leave some clean socks, and some first aid stuff. And the sunblock. Put them in some kind of dirt colored canvas bag, and throw some dirt on it to keep people from finding the items easily. This way you can hike lighter up to your little base camp, and then stay the night, and hike another day or so out without carrying so much weight. If you map these locations, later on you can guide guests to your village on hikes to these spots for them to hike further from, also. I wonder what happened to all the pack mules and burros they must have had.

That was all standing not long ago, I have pictures of it from 8 years ago. It had a 2 story cabin and other buildings
That's really cool! If there's any way you could post the pictures that would be great! We would all love to see them...,
timestamp?
Brent: *Finds litter from 100 years ago* This is so cool
Also Brent: Littering is my pet peeve
Lol seriously!!! He just robbed future generations the joy of finding that "Happy Birthday" mylar balloon in the wash he was walking in.
I guess he's one of those "Trash snobs" you're always hearing about complaining about the quality of the trash he finds. 😂
Yeah, its pretty funny when you think about it :D
@@PinkaMJL I thought the same thing
guessing its because animals can choke on plastic balloons but metal cans likely wont do them harm. a small critter might even make it a home
You should metal detect around those stone houses and will probably find some cool stuff.
YES! I thought the same when he was talking about silver buried by trees. xxx
@@andiepasdedeux6576 i would carry a metal detector everywhere with me in those hills

he can also find ores... and he's close to a mine of silver... so, hard to tell if he'll be able to scan anything

Wow! Thank you. Sharing them are the highlight of my week. Really enjoy it.
Thank you for the videos Brent. Stay safe and good luck. 👍🇬🇧
You should get a bivvy bag. They’re way lighter and pack way smaller than a tent, but it will still keep you warm and dry
And maybe a sleeping pad too. Sleeping bags are temperature rated based on the insulation provided by a pad. You lose body heat mostly through the ground as it works like a giant heat sink.
You definitely get the impression he’s just winging it
Brent - "I'm right on top of a mine, that gets me excited!"
Me watching intently hands starting to clam up - "God be careful Brent!"
Also - I think the rock you kept is Azurite (55% copper content)
@@steincheers6031 Azuurite & malicite (the green)
WOW! AMAZING! SIMPLY AMAZING😊👏🏼👏🏼💪🏼
Deep shaft 😏
I wonder if the azurite is down in the lake as it may make refelct blue light. Very beautiful. Like the Cote d'Azur in France for example.
This guy risks his life every time he goes into a mine , just to find some *old dynamite, cool rocks, and jeans* .
Serious respect. 👊
I could happily listen to Brett pottering about his land all day long
He is always asking what kind videos we want, I don’t care as long as he is making them!
Brent is AMAZING. The guy is an addicting story teller & life relater.
I ll be honest. First watching Brent I thought he was lost and a bit bonkers. After watching many of his films I’m convinced he is neither. Such a genuine love of his surroundings is obvious. Brave and passionate guy.
😊
You said you're not a good speaker, but you were hitting the heart strings with your sunset speech.
Brent is a bit of a renegade
A lot of wild animals use those mines for shelter too, wild animals which can get very dangerous when cornered down a dark mine...
If he keeps on doing this he won't live old... It would be so sad... He doesn't seem quite conscious of the huge risks he takes.
This is the most sad video i´ve seen for a long time. Made me realize, how far away i am from were i really want to be. I´m stuck in "cool" Berlin, working at the company i always wanted to work for , earn good money,.... but when i see this, i just want to be out there in the wild, discover things, camp under the sky and leave all the BS that´s not important at all.
Please keep up posting stuff like this!
Change requires sacrifice, my dad told me once "sometimes you have to be so sick of something your actually willing to do something to change it." Comfortable is dangerous you get stuck when your comfortable
Don’t forget, Brent and is partners had to come up with $1.3M (I think I read that somewhere) to buy this “freedom”. Freedom ain’t free.
Dude is a millionaire and can afford to do this and still earn money
@@garymerrin2370 you know this how?
@@motor2of7 he’s said he still works part-time remotely for a book marketing agency or something, which could easily be enough to “live on”..the interesting thing is these videos (mostly) arent monetized at all, so he’s not making ad $…so yeah, it’s hard to imagine the investment strategy doesn’t go beyond the stated purpose of the videos of “just want to show my friends back home what I’m up to”. This is viral marketing for some eventual Airbnb resort/historical theme park
Aside from the stunning visuals and interesting ghost town content, my favorite part of Brent's videos are the sincere, one-on-one moments about life and purpose. You inspire us my friend, keep on keeping on!
I am so proud of you for realizing what is truly important in life, and buying the ghost town. Keeping our history alive is so important. Thank You for helping keep it going!
Thank you! I appreciate that. Thanks for checking out the video.
Around minute 41:30, top-left part of the footage, let it roll for a few seconds... Do you also see it?
Might just be a little smoke from the fire maybe.
That sunset story really was something special. Especially when you are 25 years old, stuck with a job you hate and with the dream of paying the rent from being a musician. The story really gave me the hope and the strength I needed. Thank you Brent.
You're like the Bob Ross of Exploration!
3:27 you dont know how happy i am that thermo gives F an C at the same time hahah
Blue rock is most likely azurite, Green would be Malachite , both an indicator of Copper
Are there any practical uses for Malachite or Azurite? Or is it just neat to look at?
Neat! Thanks for the response. Though I figured as much. Still wanted to ask. 😎👍
i thought lapislazulli
@@michaelmich00 Lapis lazuli is found mostly in the Middle East, countries such as northeast Afghanistan , Pakistan, also Italy, Mongolia. It is found in the US and Canada but is not common. Kendal mint cake is a traditional hikers treat to have when you’re hiking. Quite high in sugar but it’s very tasty! It’s from Kendal, Cumbria (also known as the Lake District).
I'm in the lakes at the minute. Absolutely love it here.
Get a metal detector, the old miners would hide their valuables behind loose rocks in their walls.
But then carry it half way and leave it in a mine shaft with all your other stuff haha

I've begun to realize the overarching theme of this channel is: Let Go. Get Lost.

every time you upload a video i seem to be GLUED to my seat for the remaining of a clip, sometimes i watch your videos twice in a day, it really brings some piece of mind. you inspired me to buy some land in patagonia
He makes his videos so inspirational, how many of us could really say we could survive in a ghost town alone for 6 months. VERY FEW this is a brilliant man!
I think the most eye-opening thing to me is how isolated things are. Here in the UK, its hard to go anywhere without bumping into someone.
"My one Pet peeve is littering" *Proceeds to become excited when finding 100 year old litter.*
Lol!
Ya but that 100 year old litter becomes valuable 100 years later when it becomes Antiques.
I was going to say the same thing but this was the first comment lol
At that point, it's not trash anymore. It's an artifact lol
Thanks Brent for sharing your story! I followed my own path in life as young man as a professional motorcycle racer. Baja, Dakar, The Andes, Europe, South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia, It took me all over the world. Hope to meet you some day!

When Brent uploads so you know he’s survived another week 🙏🏻
