Look into rainwater harvesting. There's a guy in southern AZ who harvests all his water from the yearly monsoons; he has 20,000 gallons in water holding tanks and one season's rainfall keeps him all year. If you place 3 or 4 tanks higher than the buildings you can gravity feed your water to the houses without electricity.
Ooohh, actually, if he jimmy-rigs it JUST right, he can use the "gravity feed" aspect to turn, in the course of the water's flow, an (enclosed) water wheel which will then be used to generate electricity! COOL!!!

We are deeply intrigued in your ventures and would love to bring our expertise to your town if you need help with anything, we could both collaborate and get awesome footage from it. Let us know if this is something you’d be interested in!
I'd like to see more interviews of the people who come up to work on the projects. Especially the water system. Laying new lines, trouble shooting, pressurizing the system for the first time. There's so much going on and each step is fascinating. Each one of those steps is an adventure.
I would be tempted to include the folowing topics / themes in the script: time traveling extraterrestrials, a large underground complex accessible via the mines, some sort of mad max like groups roaming around on the surface. Not sure about how to incorporate the goats though :-)
@@slovokia Or Maybe a horror story. Like the reason why it was abandoned was because it dug into a government weapons testing facility, and released a biological weapon.
This show makes me feel like I'm there. I am such a loner. I'm not shy either just feel like when I am around people I have to help them or give them something. Nobody ever does the same back.
You should set up an area for people to stay in RV's and Tiny Homes, so that they can stay, visit, and help with the rebuild. And definitely build a fire station with an older, functioning, firetruck.
Hey dude, I've been watching all your videos in random order. Also started reading history online, including a news article describing the purchase and motivation for buying the land. What you're doing is awesome and I'm incredibly envious. Nicely done.
As long as you don’t become that lost sole that starts talking to himself. Don’t lose it. You have to have some inter action. Love the view. Town is going to be awesome. Don’t give up.
I can't live all alone without phone, books, or another person that care for me, because I got some suicidal thoughts when I'm alone without doing anything. When I'm all alone by myself and the power or internet got out I read books.
@@rzkzkr20 Yesssss same. The feeling of loneliness gives me a feeling of emptyness and it's a big trainwreck from there. Gotta keep myself entertained or at least have something
When you're outside and alone with the silence, not one soul near you, and you have only yourself to rely on, your perspective on life changes pretty fast.
You could have people come and stay for free right now, on the condition they give you a couple hours of labor towards a project or two. Great way to make it a community build and bring life back to the town.
Most people think he hates life and is depressed. But I'm just like him and love being alone. I try to be like others but that makes me hate life. I'm happiest when I get to do stuff by myself and sometimes feel embarrassed about it. Its tough to admit this because I have a wife, 4 kids and a loving family and they dont understand that it doesn't mean I dont love them. This guy is awesome for doing this.
I don't get lonely either and prefer to be with only my cats and doggy. I love some people but I don't like being around many of them very long at all, even if I love them a lot! It dosen't mean I love them any less or I'm isolating myself in a bad way I just like it like that.
My husband has actually been to your town in the 1980’s when he was stationed in California. I told him about it this afternoon and when he told me he had been their I was blown away. He explored a few ghost towns when he lived out there. We think what you are doing is amazing. Hope you get your water going. Following now so excited. Hopefully, one day I can come see it. ❤️
I’m sure I was there once or twice. My Dad always took us to the old deserted mines and ghost towns and I remember going to Lone Pine, Death Valley, Mt Lassen etc. I always loved the bands of burros we found, left over from the gold rush days. They were so sweet and friendly
That's sadly exactly what the plan seems to be though. Read any interviews the owner, Bret Underwood has given... "Tourists, and group events", "plan to reinvent the town as a tourist hotspot", "a place for tourists to come" etc etc. Theres loads. He paid $1.4 million for the town. He's a professional marketer. Sorry to disappoint, but he's not a down on his luck dude that's trying to save history. It's an investment.
I've lived off the grid on the edge of the painted desert on 40 acres with no running water. I have to haul it in from a nearby town. I love it. We've got dogs, goats, chickens, and rabbits. I really felt the bit about sitting alone with yourself. You are spot on. In today's world it is so easy to run away from your inner problems by keeping busy. When my daughter was born about a year and a half ago, sometimes she would not sleep unless she was being held. I found it so difficult to simply sit down with her and do nothing. I was so used to going 100 MPH all the time and doing a million things at once. Sometimes I would need to do this an hour and a half. When I allowed myself to sit, a lot of stuff came up and I found out why I was "running." I can imagine being alone in a place like Cerro Gordo could be incredibly healing. Wow, I am so glad that someone is taking care of Cerro Gordo. I have been there many times, but that was in my younger days, it has been about 40 years since I last visited Cerro Gordo. When I was in my 20's my best friend and I explored mines in most of Southern California and Nevada. I had a Jeep CJ7 and a tent trailer that would go anywhere, later on we both bought Quad-runners so we could get into even more remote areas. My friends father owned a small cabin across the valley just north of the town Lone Pine up on Mount Whitney. Spent a lot of time all around that area. I now live in Oregon, and when I retire I think I will explore the Oregon desert.

I found myself smiling, giggling, shedding tears and making plans in my head to travel from Australia to Cero Gordo whilst watching this. That last bit ain’t gonna happen anytime soon, but it’s always a joy to be voyeuristically absorbed into your life at Cero Gordo, Brent. Your filming and editing skills are improving exponentially, which are sure to continue to grow your audience, but I still enjoyed your earlier ‘rougher’ productions 👍🏼 I feel a genuine pride in the way you are living your life and so happy that others are extending the same complimentary opinion, be it via donation, in person support, purchasing merchandise, or by a simple comment on your TH-cam channel or social media page. The greatest fear among young people living close to urban areas is the fear of missing out, while _actually_ missing out. Definitely look into building a water tower.. it would help immensely with the water issue. Elevated water tower will use gravity to feed water to your town. Remember you can use sand and Charcoal to filter water and then boil.
@@iprofox3758 It wouldn't have to be rainwater - just pump water from the mine into the elevated storage tank/tower using the existing setup and feed it to the houses using gravity.

Hey you’d should look at those firefighting skids that are drop in and fit in the back of a rzr. Would help if lighting stuck somewhere near and you could put it out before it got to big. A used fire truck wouldn’t be a bad idea but it’s pretty costly to fuel and maintain one of those
Brush truck would be better. Engines are more difficult to operate as you need to understand how to pump it. In addition you would need someone on the line as you pump or it could become very dangerous.
I really like the story about how you restored the water and all the details included. Hey you’d should look at those firefighting skids that are drop in and fit in the back of a rzr. Would help if lighting stuck somewhere near and you could put it out before it got to big. A used fire truck wouldn’t be a bad idea but it’s pretty costly to fuel and maintain one of those
A brush truck might be a better option. Most of them have a 500 gallon skid on the back and should be relatively easy to maneuver where it needs to go
Lucas Gardner very true, but hauling gas up the road for one of those beasts could be a big pain. Less of a pain than rebuilding a town however
