I am so glad this radio came out when it did. I was about to get a Bearcat 980SSB or a Galaxy--neither had FM. This radio appears to have it all. AND it can hold 10m, 11m and 12m and scan 2m. Ordered mine today.

it's a good radio if it analog. If the internals are digital it will be destroyed by an EMP.

@@unitedstatesirie7431 i don't think so. EMP will destroy unprotected analog too. VACUUM TUBES might stand a chance.

@@leejacobs8887 There is a reliable bricks and mortar place in Nz called Techoman in CHCH you might like to try . Also Bascom misspell see later in Sydney who will have better prices. They might not have this exact model but they do have Anytone5555 models with SSB and three bands. Plenty of this stuff comes out of the same PRC factory and is rebadged. Last time I looked BNCOM dt Com etc had the 5555N multimode version for 410 AuD in your hand in Sydney. ZL1 MZR

I picked up one of these at a ham fest in October. They were $149.00 with the programming cable. ($139.00 each if you bought two).
My friend and I each picked one up to get the $139.00 price. It's fun to play with and the programming cable is a must to really unlock all of the features of this radio.
I like being able to listen to 2-meter repeaters, especially my local one that I use often and my local PD. The only complaint that I have is that while the receiver is fairly sensitive, the rejection is nothing short of awful!! In a rural area, it's not a big issue, but in city areas not too much. I've compared it with four other radios and this radio is consistently a splash-box! I thought perhaps it was an issue with the radio I have, but my friend has noticed the same thing. All in all, for $139 with all these futures I'm not going to complain.

What you did not mention or maybe you are not aware of, it uses the same board as the Stryker 955 V2. This Qt 40 is also the same radio as the Anytone Aries II, exactly the same radio. The problem i have with it of course is it isn't user friendly at all, no digital frequency readout, etc., but the reality is your getting the performance of a Stryker 955 for less than half of the current price of one. It is just a royal PITA to set it up due to it being so non user friendly.
Radioddity seems to be on this kick of rebadging a lot of good radios and putting them out there at a very good price. Another good one they are doing now is the QT 60 which is a rebadged newest version of the Anytone AT 5555 NII, again, exactly the same radio. But, they are all owned by the same mother ship after all.
If you have a Stryker 955 V2, pop them both open and have a peep :)

What antenna does it need? I will be using a Radiowavz Double Bazooka Antenna. It will be in the attic of my garage. Due to Home Owners Association saying no antennas outside. The 520 transistors are same as the kl203 finals roughly 50 watt a piece splitting the drive to two should give you a solid 75 maybe 100 anymore you might cook em rm italy makes the kl60 i have had three and they range output depending pn date mfg ,my 1st two gave me 45 the third was an older model and missing one attenuate resist on input and puched 70 but had to keep transmits short i got that one free c.ause another operator had blown final only so i ordered replacements for all back in day when they were only 2.95 each they now as 520 are 35$!!!!

Being you can use a dynamic mike with it, I have some quality ones I would like to try including Heil. I just ordered one from Amazon coming Saturday! I emailed Radiodity asking about mike pinout (it's not in the manual) and got no reply, about shipping time either, so ordered from above. Do you or anybody else know the mike pinout, I would assume it's Cobra 4 pin?

I have already tried about a dozen mics on my QT40, it has the same wiring as a Cobra/Uniden mic. So far a Turner Plus 3 desk mic is my favorite on this radio.
