    After I spray the interior of the frame with cleaning agent (mainspring area, hammer, etc) I use my compressor to blow it out. This removes the debris better than I can with a Qtip. I use compressed air on almost all my guns to get the gunk out of nooks and crannies. I then take a wooden stick used for pushing back your finger nail cuticles and cleaning patches to wipe out the interior a little better. Works for me!

      I was wondering if it was okay to use compressed air on a gun after using a high pressure spray can cleaner (such as Birchwood Casey Gun Scrubber). I have a compressor and this makes sense to me ‘cause I already clean and dry a variety of mechanical things with it. But a gun I’m not sure about; as a novice the last thing I wanna do is screw up my brand new SW22. My thought was this would be a little quicker and more thorough than the Q tip method.

    I am not having the problems with the magazines described in this vid. Out of 1000 rounds fired with my SW .22 I maybe have two failures and I'm sure it the .22 ammo and not the fault or failure of the pistol. This is one of the best target pistols I have ever owned.

    Gun oil is not a cleaning agent. It's a lubricant. Some kind of solvent like Hoppes or G96 solvent removes carbon and can help with leading. Oil does virtually nothing. It's the last step after cleaning to lubricate then protect the firearm. I think this concept comes from how so many use things like WD40, thinking they are cleaning and lubricating with one product. They find out it doesn't do so well so they switch to just oil, skipping the cleaning step.
    They pull a clean patch and think it worked. I can run a brush with solvent through that supposedly clean bore, then pull an almost solid black patch. Using just oil as a cleaning product is not "old school."

      My Rem oil says it does both plus Teflon . I've been using this a long time and never checked to see if it was kosher. Is this a no-no ?

    • @craigharding6443
      @craigharding6443 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Rodney. For starters, most folks do not consider Rem oil the top of the line. Secondly, and as I stated. Oil or grease is for lubricating a clean firearm. I consider it also good to prevent corrosion and rust to an otherwise clean firearm. It's a bit like someone using a conditioner on their hair after shampooing. No oil does a good job of cleaning a firearm after you've been using it. Oil does a lousy job of dissolving power residue, carbon, or leading. It's a lubricant.
      On the other hand, nitro solvent like G96 Solvent or Hoppes No.9 solvent along with elbow grease does a fairly good job of cleaning but not so good at lubricating anything. It does dissolve power residue, carbon and even a small amount of leading. This holds down the corrosive properties of these things by cleaning them out of your firearm. Trying to make oil do the job of a solvent makes little sense to me, but people do it all the time, clean their gun trying to use just oil.
      They you have the lazy folks. They buy all in one products like Ballistol, WD40, or one of the many other of these type products. The problem is they do a poor job of each. For instance WD40 and most others are only around 20% lubricants. It has a penetrating agent for helping with rusty bolts, if that's what you need. That's not much. Ballistol is mostly organic cleaners like soap and vegetable oil type materials. You really have to soak the parts or drench them for a while to get them to clean much. Again, not a lot of real lubricants because the ingredient list is too filled up doing other things.
      I think one should really clean your firearm with solvent, using it again to remove all the debris from your initial scrubbing with that solvent. Then let it completely dry as a totally clean firearm. Finally, lubricate it according the the owner's manual. I use grease on some and light oil on the rest. I don't want additives. I follow up with a very light film of RIG gun grease on all metal except the chamber which might get an extremely light film of oil. Oil in the chamber can cause serious pressure issues when shot.

      I use Loctite to lube and I know some hard core metal workers are gonna shit to hear that. One can talk for days on preferences of gun kits. Vaseline will work in a pinch. :0)

    Should have looked this up a long time ago. I can't stand mag disconnect systems. I don't like storing my guns with the hammer drawn, but I also don't like dry firing them with a mag in. even after clearing it, it feels wrong.

    I just found your video. Thank you for the hard work on cleaning. I just picked up a Victory and it only wanted to shoot about 50 rounds right out of the box. I got it home and cleaned it with CRC QD electronic cleaner. It seems to work well and drys quickly. Then oiled it. Now ready to take it out and do it again. Thanks for the video.

    9:22 no what are you doing? You put the bolt in the slide and slide the tabs under the rear of the upper receiver into the lower receiver, then push back. What you’re trying to do is push the upper receiver straight down. It doesn’t work that way. Smh dude

      Wish I had seen this when I first got my Victory. I clean it after every use but have obviously missed a few bits resulting in a major malfunction. Just replaced the firing pin and extractor with Tandemcross upgrades and I know now how to clean the mags so I'm hopeful I won't have any more problems. Also learned how to use snapcaps. Thanks so much.

      Ahh, thanks for clarifying! Misread your question. We sell an Essential Maintenance Kit for this platform that includes an extractor, firing pin and firing pin rebound springs. We don't currently sell upgraded extractor group springs or disconnectors, unfortunately. You may have to reach out to Smith for those. Here is our kit: www.tandemkross.com/Essential-Maintenance-Kit-for-SW22-Victory_p_419.html. We also sell each part separately - they are linked within this product description. Hope this helps!

      TANDEMKROSS thanks for your response. A few thoughts: the gun failed to extract properly 70pct of the time w the ammo it liked with worse performance from other ammo. I stretched the extractor spring and the recoil spring and its much better. Now it fires 90 pct but always fails to extract one per mag. What are your thoughts? I am going to contact smith but id like to know your thoughts and i will bee purchasing your extractor and halo

    I had leading on my sw22 victory barrel after 100 rounds. I notice the chamber finish was rough/uneven and burrs on the throat of the barrel, which was causing the leading problem.

  • @bobarganbright180

    Does taking the mag disconnect out improve the trigger pull that much,?
    The one I snapped had a clunky let off.

    • @TANDEMKROSS
      @TANDEMKROSS  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It can improve the trigger pull, but that's not the main reason to remove the mag disconnect. If you're really unsatisfied with your trigger pull, installing an aftermarket trigger is going to get you more noticeable results.

      32icon I personally would not use a brass brush in my SW22 Victory but brass is one of the softest metals you will find ,don't know why you want use it but here is some food for thought just get a OTIS gun cleaning kit and a small toothbrush and that should clean everything just fine..

    What is the advantage of removing the magazine disconnect?

    • @TANDEMKROSS
      @TANDEMKROSS  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      In addition to the basic advantage of being able to fire the gun without a magazine inserted, many SW22 owners find that removing the magazine disconnect improves cycling and makes for a better trigger pull. We actually have a blog post on this topic: www.tandemkross.com/SW22-Victory-How-to-Remove-the-Magazine-Disconnect_b_31.html

    Hey Brian, that little pin you're removing from your mags is an assist button not a follower. It goes through the follower. I'd really like to see you try to run your mags without a follower. I don't think the cartridges right against the spring would work so good. 😉

    • @TANDEMKROSS
      @TANDEMKROSS  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a very detailed cleaning, and most people won't need to do it at this level every time. Gun oil and a rag is fine in many cases. But its good to do a detailed cleaning once in a while.
