37 weeks prego with baby #5! You make this project look so easy I'm heading straight upstairs to measure a wall in the baby's room and then to waddle around Home Depot!
PRO TIP: When using construction adhesive lay down a bead of circles instead of lines, it creates a vacuum and helps the panel stick to the wall better.
Lisa Porteous there are concrete adhesives that you can get at the hardware store. Just find one that can be used with wood. There are also concrete anchors you can use, but I don’t think I would with this type of project.
@@lisaporteous3689 I would use screws. So screw the large sheets to the wall and then cover the screws with trim or frame. The real why I would use screws is they are strong and they do not require setting time like an adhesive. And then if I wanted to I could put shelves on the wall easily. I would use sheets of plywood instead of mdf If I was needing selves/cabinets.
@@lisaporteous3689 that should work, but make sure to have some boards to brace to the opposite wall to hold your pieces up against the wall while the adhesive dries. You could also use adhesive which has directions to cut the piece, apply adhesive to the back, then pull it back off the wall and let it stand open for a couple of minutes, then put it back up; it is supposed to stick better then.
Fantastic! You definitely have some great skills. About that outlet... super easy to move over and since you're also using hard board to cover the wall that just makes fixing the patch even easier.
I learn something new every time I do molding. I’ve also learned how to move an outlet which makes planning and the overall look so much better. That looks nice!
Hey Bradley, can you please share how to move an outlet? Electrical wires are generally stapled to the studs in the frame stage and then covered by drywall. I can't think of how a person could go about moving the plug from one stud to another without opening up the wall. Thanks
Mark P there is usually some slack and you don’t have to move it much. Cut a new hole and put a remodeling box in the wall. Use the cut piece of drywall to seal the old hole. Thing is that you have to use your existing wiring without splicing. That would make it a no no. Check out finish carpentry TV’s channel.
Bradley Beames thank you Bradley. I had no idea that electricians leave a little slack in the wires. Sounds like there may be enough slack to move the box from one stud to the other but within the same bay? It’s been a few years since I walked a house in the frame stage.
Start off with small projects to get a feel for it and they will be less daunting and you can do more of them. The worse you can do is get something wrong and just repeat if need be.
Looks great. I may try this idea in my home. I have a carpenters tip for joining two boards together. When you need to join two boards together as you did for the top boards you used a but joint. It is better to cut those boards at a 45 degrees. That is not 45 degrees like a picture frame but 45 degrees like you would for joining two baseboards in a corner. The 45 degree overlap will hide any lines from showing later when the wood shrinks a tiny bit. This is also good for crown molding as those boards will shrink and make the line very visible.
Beautiful. It makes me nervous that you use construction adhesive. When you sell the home, if the new homeowner doesn't want that, instead of just pulling the wood off the walls, and patching the drywall holes, they have to replace all of the drywall. The 3/4" wood you are using will adequately hold the hardboard, or mdf, up without glue. Something to consider for future you, or future homeowner. I love your projects and videos. I am super impressed by your thoroughness, and not skipping any steps that are tedious. I am so proud of you, Stefani!!! Thank you for your service!
Excellent video! Helpful tip, you could prime the hard board before installation, or even just before the strips go on. It will save maybe a little time but you won’t have to work around the boards. This sure looks good!
I like that you include you actually doing most all of the steps. My wife is an interior designer by trade and actually had a similar taste in style. Just a thought if you ever have bad results from a big box store's panel saw or it is down. Kreg makes a very handy tool, Rip Cut, that is pretty in expensive ($40?). I have been very pleased with the results. The WWMM channel had suggested bringing a cordless circular saw to get plywood to fit into your vehicle, which I think you had in a video - mine is corded. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for this video! We have textured walls and couldn’t figure what to put on the walls to make it look smooth and more professional. So glad I came across this video ☺️ New subscriber 💕
really, really nice! Here is a painting tip..after you apply your first coat of primer apply a light sand with a super fine sandpaper (do this twice for best results) and then apply the paint. Apply a light sand again and then apply the final coat of paint. It will look as if it was professionally sprayed.
Looks great! I want to do something like that in our bedroom but not sure if it’s going to go behind the bed or not. Can you do an accent wall without it being behind the bed or is that a no-no?
Only part I felt I could use some more pointers on is nothing out the boards for the plug. Did the 1/8 boards make your plugs cover not able to sit flush with the plug? Could you share a close up photo of the plug after it's all done?
Would this brown board that u used to cover the textured wall work in a bathroom?( since bathrooms have high humidity) It looks like a great alternative
Thanks for posting this video, super helpful. What color is the rest of the room? I think they go together really well and may possibly use the same. Thanks!
I would use the wall as a headboard and put the bed against it. It would look beautiful and it's too pretty to be covered up. It looks nice with boards in between as well. Great job.
I'm about to start my B&B in my powder room, but the walls are VERY textured from a previous owner. Are the hardboard panels you're using enough to cover a 90s look? Or is it better to remove that texture first, even if I am using the hardboard panels? I am hoping to minimize the amount of space I have to float. Love your wall! My husband and I are going to try this in a couple of weeks! I'm going through your list and the link for the baseboard trim isn't working. Is there something else that you would recommend? Thank you!
I work as a painter and sometimes there is renovation to do before painting. If you are nailing your panels, the liquid glue is like killing a fly with a hammer. Imagine you change your idea in a year or so, how much work will be needed to take the panels off the wall.
@@manuelcastillo5999 I thought she was adding the liquid glue because these panels would support something (shelves, etc). If not I would have just nailed the panels to the wall. Or maybe just add a line of glue to the top part (behind) instead of everywhere behind the panels.
