My Brothers and Sisters. Please stay safe. I’m an old retired Detective Police Captain of 32 years and at my age of 79 years old I still and always will have your back.❤
If you've attended a Work Place Safety & De-escalation training presented by our Outreach Officers in the last few years, you might be able to watch this video and recognize the steps of de-escalation discussed in those classes. This video shows a real world example of what it's like to 1) establish contact with the individual in crisis, 2) build rapport, and 3) attempt to influence a positive decision. If de-escalation training is something you think your work place or organization would benefit from, please contact the Bellingham Police Outreach Officers for more information.
We need more officers trained just like this on the force. like it or not, mental health is a true crisis in the United States. This officer is a true hero and an awesome civil servant. Great job!
It feels weird hearing "Bellingham" on TH-cam. Thank you, every officer, for the hard work you all do. I appreciate this series and support you indefinitely.
We need mental health cops specifically trained in mental health in every state & town to go to calls. Not just regular police because most cops are not trained in dealing with people who struggle with mental health & most times just make it worse.
Too bad mainstream media only shows body cam videos when things go bad. I realize videos of cops and people talking out their problems might not make for clickbait headlines but it might give us a better idea of what the job is really like.
I really appreciate you removing identifying info. I think these videos are important, but it hurts my heart when people’s face/info isn’t protected. I love how the officer got down on the patient’s level. It’s so much less intimidating. Well done! I appreciate you.
This is the realest thing you'll see about what police deal with and how to handle a potentially volatile situation in a positive way. Thank you guys for showing this. Officer Knutsen, if I wanted to do a ride-along with one of your officers, what would the necessary steps be to do so? I'm interested in learning more and educating myself of what it's like to be a LEO.
No charges. Noone wanted to pursue anything per the police blotter. I believe the folks at the end were likely the initial victims but seemed satisfied with a trip to the hospital for him.
Who gives a flip about anybody claiming mental health in our society. It's seems like every body wants a monetary handout nowadays for a PTSD diagnosis. Remember we pay u with our tax dollars which is enough for already at a state level.

Thank you for treating him like a human and caring.

As a Bellingham resident, thank you guys, so so much.
I had no idea we were forming a behavioral health crisis team.
Wow ❤ good job! This is the kind of training all health care workers should be trained to do for any person having mental problems❤
Wow well done all! Especially zac. Just wondered why he had to be handcuffed behind back? His and your safety ?
So proud to be apart of this community, thank you for being here for us.
Now that is what officers are supposed to be!

Has anyone else noticed the Breath of the Wild stickers on the officer's computer? He's doing a great job though.

I am so glad that they have time to film this, are you kidding me. You went through a 6 month class. I guess all crime is eliminated.

You sound heartless, people like you are a major part of the problem.
