Dude. This is awesome and i know its winter but i look forward to the spring time when you shownus how to convert a box fan into a swamp cooler for the garage.
Speaking of dryers, dryer sheets make great shop air filters for stuff like this. I have 4 on the back of my modine keeping the coil from getting dusty. They're so cheap you don't even feel bad about not cleaning it.
My home furnace air intake was never done right(before we bought the house) so its just open to the air in the utility room, rubber band and a dryer sheet and its filtered air for combustion! Probably better than what it would pull from outside :P
Believe it or not you can combine a catalyst/hardener to most oil based paints to make it stronger. I've done it for some time, I've just been too lazy to make video about it ...
Don't need it. A forced air flame puts out zero carbon monoxide. And it's under the 40,000 BTU limit for safe use indoors that's put in place for commercial vent free propane/natural gas heaters/fireplaces to maintain good air quality inside a home. This would never be used in a home though. This would be a drafty shop/garage.
@@sixtyfiveford Oh.. okay! You should plug in a carbon monoxide detector in the garage one day and see what that tells you before you kill off a bunch of your viewers. Just in time for winter too also everyone is throwing them gas dryers away. I bet Ginger loves that heat my heeler would stick his tung in the floor vent in the summer and the winter he would run and sit on it every time it would turn on. And if the thermostat was lower on the wall he would have been smart enough to figure it out too. lol
A propane heater produces moisture (H2O) to the air when burning; much more than a diesel heater. It means that your tools will get rusty easier. You should try to remove moisture some how from the shop. Nice project anyhow! 👍
You're never going to notice the moisture unless you live in a sealed plastic bag. Generally, the moisture level in winter time is significantly lower than summer. So The miniscule amount of moisture added to the air is great. Moisture also has the benefit of carrying heat much better. So it will feel warmer at a lower temperature.
Those fuel tip work great for the fire extinguisher flame thrower. Fyi Also doubles for wasp bee insect bag worm killer with water and dawn dish detergent . Sprays 40 to 60 ft or more depending on tip size.
This would make a lot of sense if one had natural gas in their shop. I just converted an old 4000 watt Onan gasoline generator to run on natural gas, which I have abundant and cheap here.
Generally, I would just drill the hole and then use a pipe from the backside and a ball peen hammer from the front side to round it. In this scenario I used a Christmas tree/ stepper drill bit in the drill press. I used a lot of force and it deformed the metal inwards as it cut. So it gave me a natural rolled edge in. I showed a teeny tidbit of how I make the decals but didn't want to focus on it as it's in an entire process by itself. I essentially use a graphics design program(Adobe illustrator) to design them from scratch and then they get imported into a decal cutting machine called a Cricut. This cuts them out of vinyl then the rest is history.
You can just bypass that "overheat" switch, no need to poke random holes in the sheet metal. (Most propane heaters are "you turn it on when the area gets cold".)
Would you ever sell one of your shop heaters? Or make one for sale? I am currently trying to figure out how to heat my garage and would love one of these, preferably the propane heater.
You could make a fuel saver mode how much voltage amperage. Does the new heater take to run once it starts.. check it out it would be a good video to do
Any time ya use forced air,it should NEVER shut off on any limits, only room thermostat. If it does the airflow is not sufficient or there is too much flow. Good job
The humanity! The DEADLY propane fumes, the birds and squirrels! LOL, just kidding. Another awesome garage heater. I'd love to have a somewhat compact 120 volt forced air heater for my garage. I don't want to run 240 into the garage as I've already ran two separate 240 runs for my hot tub and my CB radio amplifier. I had a Mr. Heater natural gas heater that I plumbed into my furnace gas line in the garage, but that heater really stinks up the garage to where it made me nauseous. Not sure why, but it did. It was set up for natural gas and not propane.
I do find If a heater is too large for the shop, it tends to burn up a lot of oxygen. At one time I had a 200k BTU kerosene/diesel heater. That thing would heat up my shop in minutes, but it made me nauseous. I had to sell it. But for years I've been using a 50,000 BTU kerosene/diesel heater and sometimes even a second one the same size and never an issue. These natural gas/ propane dryers put out about 22,000 BTU and don't seem to phase me in the slightest.
Math says it should be right at 19 hours run time straight on one 20 lb propane tank. I find that it heats up my shop. 20x 20 in about 45 minutes from 30-40°f to 60ish which feels great. I do have almost 17-ft tall ceilings in the rafters so most of the heat tools up there. Putting a ceiling fan up in the rafters helped mix that air back down . It is blowing 100°+ air directly at me 10ft away though so I don't need to heat up the entire shop.
The electric is the simplest and quietest but most expensive to run; $0.60-0.75/hr if I recall. Natural gas is by far the cheapest at around $0.20/hr and depending on propane prices it is around 0.50/hr. So my favorite is Natural gas.
I don't see anyone else saying it ,so I could be wrong. But normally a dryer vents to outside. Burning propane creates carbon monoxide. For a long time I thought propane was indoor safe because I've seen propane forklifts used indoors. But I recently found out they have a special exhaust system to make them safe, and I can't use a propane camping stove indoors. Please be careful. Don't die!
Yeah A forced air flame produces zero carbon monoxide because it provides plenty of oxygen for a complete burn. You only get carbon monoxide when you have an incomplete burn. Things like engines are designed to be run a little bit on the rich side to run cooler and therefore create enormous amounts of carbon monoxide. A flame from a stove can only pull in so much oxygen by itself and therefore never completely burns. Dryers are generally vented outdoors for two reasons: One is the moisture that is created and dumped into the home is not desirable ( Note that the majority of dryers made are electric and are vented outdoors), second as a quadruple safety measure in case at least 3 other measures fail it prevents CO from being dumped into the home. Propane/lpg unvented ( vent free) heaters are considered safe for indoor/home use up to 40,000btu. This is roughly half the legal limit (22,000btu). This is because they consume oxygen and could create a low oxygen environment. This is nearly impossible at under 40,000btu, hence the limit. You would have to be in a completely sealed 10x10 room and not open it for a couple days straight.
I am 68 years old, done, repaired, created a bunch of stuff but got to say you make me smile with your "common sense creativity"

The electric is the simplest and quietest but most expensive to run; $0.60-0.75/hr if I recall. Natural gas is by far the cheapest at around $0.20/hr and depending on propane prices it is around 0.50/hr. So my favorite is Natural gas.
what a fantastic idea
Love the repurposing !
Hey Thanks.
Have you ever though of turning a dishwasher into a parts washer or some other way of making your own?
Nice job 👍you do make it look easy!
They take way longer than they should just to figure everything out. But in the end it's always fun.
I wonder if that front drum bearing would fit my dryer. It really needs a new one.
Good idea, MOE! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Marty

Thanks your stilll the best
@@Alientraveler003 Thanks for watching
Amazing stuff 😄
OK so could the fan be replaced with 12v auto fn, and the igniter be a glow plug
Great video, so genius! Instant subscriber here. 😎👍
awesome.. I have a special request challenge.. your are a toolman..
Could you do a video of a "recycled something" heater that is powered by 12 Volt DC?
Another good one!
Don't die!
Well, I guess I should have waited for the end of the video, lol.
How do you know so much!!!
Did someone teach you some of this stuff or…?
What’s your background?
😂👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I’m impressed and thankful!
