Suspect Allegedly Strikes Ohio Police Officer In the Face with Metal Pipe While Being Tased

- The Cincinnati Police Department in Ohio released bodycam footage showing a suspect allegedly striking an officer in the face with a metal pipe. Officers received a 911 call about an alleged robbery that the man was a prime suspect for. Injured officer, Johnny Harris, arrived on the scene while an officer was already engaging the suspect. The suspect allegedly struck the officer when another officer used a taser on him. The man was arrested and charged with numerous felonies including assault and robbery. Officer Harris suffered several facial bone fractures and will need reconstructive surgery, police say.

All officers are different, those first two officers probably figured that they didn't have the physical ability to take him down, short of shooting him, so waited for more able-bodied officers to arrive, is my theory. On the flip side, some officers were accomplished athletes in high school and still keep in shape, and woulda felt confident in trying to physically tackle the suspect. All depends on the officer.

Louisville Metro (Kentucky) got into some serious lawsuits after a man who had used PCP ended up being shot, because he attacked the officers with a box cutter knife, even after being handcuffed. The man had superhuman strength to be able to contort himself to attack the officers with the knife, and they were able to prove it, so the family lost the suit. This was 15-20 years ago.

I watched the video... what other 50 cops? Officer Harris was one of 2 officers I saw on the video first responding. 2v1 isn't taking down a guy who shrugs off tazers. Underrated heroism that Officer Harris refused to leave his partner even when his face is busted and leaking a minute into the video.

Suspect likely high on PCP, aggressive and armed with a pole. No one is around so no innocent people are endangered by this man - lethal force is not needed or justified. Wait until more officers arrive to ensure a successful hands on takedown whilst staying close and monitoring the situation to make sure members of the public aren’t strolling into danger. If the situation changes and bystanders are threatened then lethal force will be used. If not; well smashing a few windows doesn’t warrant a death sentence.

The second he hit the first cop with the pipe the threat should have been contained and taken down! Allowing him to walk the streets like a crazy man damaging property and possibly other innocent people. We have a people problem in this country, half our population thinks they are above the law plus when it is amplified with drugs and alcohol this is the outcome. Sad state of affairs!

The cops are clearly not competent to perform their role. I understand that if he had been shot, there would have been an outcry from the "community" and the Al Sharptons and Benjamin Crumps of the world would have tried to incite for the city to be burned down. The cops may have even been investigated and destroyed by the Justice Department, the most inappropriately named agency in existence. However, they signed up for the job and difficult though it may be, this man must be put down. As a car owner, I think a very reasonable response if I went outside and saw someone destroying my car is to shoot them. Not because I have hate towards them or because I want to hurt them but because I need my car to get to work and I can't allow someone to casually destroy my property because they were having a bad day. Even the vandalism warranted the cops shooting him, in my opinion. Our society is too soft.
If I were the owner of that smashed car I'd sue the PD for every penny for failing to act.

Sometimes (as in ALWAYS), it’s better to neutralize the crazy SOB who’s committing assault & battery on others (especially law enforcement), destroying property and removing the risk of potentially hurting more of the public. Allowing him to strut down the street, likely because they’re afraid of the repercussions from tackling this CRIMINAL, is what happens when people discard the victims and apologize for criminals.
