Inspired by Ridly Greig's empty-net goal and Morgan Rielly's ensuing reaction, DZ, Corwin and Jesse rank some of the most iconic empty-netters in NHL history on this episode of the BarDown Podcast.
lol sorry guys I said that super weird, I obviously know Perron didn’t knock out his own captain, just think that was a way more violent cross check then Rielly’s but I’m not really that upset about a 5 game suspension, a little harsher than I’d go but not totally unreasonable.
lol how was Perron way more violent he turned and saw a person standing over his captain Riley saw someone score and skated after him to cross check him in the head
I think whether it was 5 or 6, no real difference, its more about the message and I think anything above 4 sends the "This is absolutely unacceptable" signal. It's not part of any play, it's just an actual attack on a person.
I figured that was what you meant lol, I feel like what they both did was very similar though, I would say Perron was a little more violent and Rielly was a little more out of line.
Best part of the Stanley Cup and Grey Cup, is that it’s one trophy, that the teams play for. Makes it more special, rather than having a new trophy made every year
The hit was 1/8 of a second from stopping a goal too. Plus it was to the shoulder. If I have an issue. Its that because he had time to carefully line up the shoulder he probably had time to pull up a little more even though he stopped skating at the dots.
@@MyDmarte if scheifele had used his stick instead of making the hit he might have actually prevented the goal then. running him over was completely unnecessary.
The Ridly Greig empty net goal was definitely the best by far (I’m a delusional bias Sens fan but it was pretty damn funny 😂) Also on the AirPods topic, I worked in a rink and one time one of my coworkers was moving the nets on the ice and his AirPod case fell out of his pocket. The driver then proceeded to run them over because it’s a tiny white case on a giant white sheet of glass. In my opinion that might top Corwin’s being ran over by a car 😂
In ranking the Evans empty net goal, you have to think about the lasting consequence. Scheifele getting 4 games + the Jets getting swept meant he had to sit out the first game of the NEXT SEASON
The funniest part of the Canucks Louis Erickson own goal was that the player that was charged with the penalty actually got credit for the goal because he was the last player to touch it
You can't blame Greige for what he did. The Sens have zero chance of making the playoffs any time in the next decade. So, for them, winning a regular season game was their Stanley Cup. If anything, I'm surprised they didn't bust out the champagne
Is Grieg's really the first time in the NHL someone has ever clapped in an empty netter from up close like that?? I refuse to believe that hasn't happened before.
Zach Parise empty netter against Canada was at least A tier. There were many sick empty netters that were passed over in this video. That pixelated video of the guy stalling in the crease before dunking it was definitely the best one for me.
@@xtho7999nothing softer than throwing a cross check because you lost a game. I’m probably older than you. This is an idiotic take. Reilly is acting like a child throwing a tantrum. Ironic you say fuck around and found out. Reilly fucked around and found out with his suspension.

Not including Keith Tkachuk's empty net goal in 96 is a travesty. The best empty net goal of all time: Last regular season game in Winnipeg, in OG Winnipeg Jets franchise history. .8 seconds left on the clock. For his 50th of the season. Clinching the Jets a playoff spot. In front of a sold out, raucous, Winnipeg Arena rocking the white out. Jesse the resident Jets fan not bringing it up, makes it all the more unforgivable. WAKE UP! (Edit) literally sat up in bed to make this addition, as I couldn't sleep thinking about it. Where is Ron Hextall's first empty net goal? The first a goalie ever scored by shooting the puck directly in the net. Is that not iconic either? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
Missing from the conversation is the situation of Ridley putting an exclamation mark on the season series. Sens owned the Leafs this year and the empty netter put the cherry on top
2 from Brendan Shanahan: 1997 WCF, with a fan excitedly smacking a celebrating Shanny in the face, and 2002 SCF, him jumping onto the smaller Stevie Y. Shanny said to Stevie "Your bleeding." to which the Captain replied "Yeah, you broke it when you jumped on me."
Absolutely no chance he wins now with a suspension. Also, he had more PIMs in that game than the last 7 Byng Winners had in their award winning seasons
Greig's Rocket Launcher Punch slap shot was hilarious. It wasn't great because it was needed, it was great because it was dunking on cocky team of over paid hacks.
I'm sorry but these podcasts are generally unwatchable and it's not because of the content, I love it. It's because you guys desperately need an audio engineer or something, the constant thumping and bumping that is happening on set is just brutal to listen to with headphones that have any kind of bass.
I get the concern over the Red Wings, they don't take many shots, they look like the worse team on too many nights(even if they win), and they definitely don't have the high-end talent a team like Toronto has. But you know that they have the highest goals for per game in the East? Right? They are really, really bad at maintaining leads but they are also really good at erasing opposing leads because they score in bunches and draw a lot of penalties. Also, they were terrible in Dec and that's why they are on the bubble, but they are allowing almost two fewer goals per game in Jan/Feb than they were in Dec. Sorry for the short paragraph, just wanted to add some context from someone who follows the team closely. I am concerned that they don't have the breathing room they might need and that they needed to go on a heater just to be on the edge of the playoffs, but they are definitely playing better than their standing position right now.
Reilly's hit was definitely more malicious than Scheifeles. After the play, game's out of reach, his only intent was to injure. Scheifele was trying to save the play, albeit he was completely out of control while doing so. Both bad plays, but there's no chance Reilly had less malicious intent than Scheifele
