    Is that the G1 or G2 Tamron lens?

    Does autofocus work? How it is possible? As I saw pictures of this teleconverter, it has no contacts. Or has it contacts?

    Good Morning from the UK.
    Great video and thanks for sharing. I too shoot with the Tamron 150-600mm and up until this morning I hadn't really thought about using a teleconverter but thanks to your video I am definitely going to look into this further.

      +The Disabled Photographer thanks Adam, I wouldn't necessarily recommend the vivitar 2x but there should be a number of choices around 2-300 US.

    Hi MYbackyardbirding..
    I want to find out what other teleconveters would fit on the G1 Tameron 150-600mm. I have the same lens (In Nikon F Mount) and i am trying to use it for Astrophotography. 600mm is not enough of a reach. Your video is the only one that demonstrates the G1 150-600mm with a teleconverter. Was wondering if you know another other brands that fit.
    I have the nikon 2X teleconverter and it doesn't fit.
    thank you!

    Thank you for posting this video, you just answered a lot of questions for me! I have an A011 Tamron 150 to 600 mm zoom lens with a t6i, and I was wondering about a 2x converter. For me it would be worth getting a 2x converter, basically I would be doing this with it. I can manually focus. If I want to take pictures of hawks or eagles in flight, I'll just take the 2x converter off. I already have an effective 960 mm at 600 mm with the crop sensor. I just want the 2x for a little extra reach when I'm shooting elk and such. I think it will work out just fine!

    • @MyBackyardBirding
      @MyBackyardBirding  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you'll get good results with video and I would suggest getting the best 2x you can. Tamron makes a 2x for the 150-600 but its a bit hard to find and pricey there are a number of options out there. BB

    Do you know if you add a 1.4x instead will the f/6.3 at 600mm become an f/8 or will it go above f/8? Tnx for the wonderful work. Tnx for sharing this wonderful work.

    I'm thinking of getting this lens for my GH5. 2x crop factor pushes 600mm to 1200mm and the 0.71 Metabones adapter will turn f6.3 to f4.5. And while recording 1080p, there's a crop x2.(?) that will push video past 2400+mm. Oh, and with in body stabilization and lens stabilization... I wont need a tripod for pictures... What cameras can do these days that Iphone X cant do... lol

  • @tectorama

    Fascinating to see this. I phoned my camera shop the other day to ask about putting a 2 x converter between my D500 and 200-500 f5.6... , they said it wouldn't work. I imagine they just meant autofocus ? Saying it wouldn't focus below f8. I'm still tempted to get one....The 1.4 tc works very well, even hand held.

      yes it is actually f/12.6 which requires good light to get the ISO down. the focal length is correct on the crop sensor but it is not real. The field of view gives the appearance of that focal length on a crop sensor but the focal length is still only 1200mm.

  • @maumuxas
    @maumuxas 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    nice video, can you explain cropping? because basically its like smaller rectangle in the middle of full frame so if you crop with full frame camera it would be same as if you crop with Photoshop latter ? or it is better quality then yo do that with camera ?

    • @MyBackyardBirding
      @MyBackyardBirding  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, cropping just means cutting a piece out of an original image - this camera is not full frame - but because full frames have higher resolution you can have a pretty good zoom-in effect by cropping the image later. My point in mentioning was just to note that these photos were not cropped or altered so you're seeing reality.

    • @maumuxas
      @maumuxas 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It has nothing to what you'v said before I'm sorry if you misunderstood me. Basically I'm just looking for info what is the difference if you crop with full frame or you make full picture with full frame and later crop with Photoshop.
      if you have camera 24 megapixels 6000-4000 and you crop with camera, cropped picture will have less pixels or same ? because obviously cropping with Photoshop you loosing image size in pixels.
      and what about quality by doing it with camera you have better then with Photoshop by doing same cropping ?

    how does autofocus work in low light situations?

    • @MyBackyardBirding
      @MyBackyardBirding  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It wont work with the teleconverter installed, but without it if it is too dark you wont get auto focus outside of the f-stop range of the lens - you can use manual focus, but again if it is pretty dark it will be grainy at high ISO's.

    I almost had a heart attack when I saw your tripod oriented backwards. You should have the single leg extending forward, under the lens, with the other two coming back towards you. That's a lot of money to take a nose dive.

    • @RagicalPlays
      @RagicalPlays 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was gonna say the exact same thing seeing his tripod set up like this. Also I've actually see someone's lens topple over on it's front element, having his backwards tripod like this, there was a big scratch on the glass. That silly git also didn't have his lenshood on for some odd reason :o
      This stuff is scary as heck to see, even if it's not your gea...

    • @Michael-w8v

      Bullshit. The center weight are on lens, not camera itself. I have heard many people made mistakes like that, mount camera with 400MM lens! Also, yes, if camera and lens are too heavy for tripod then it is bad.

    • @Sc0pee
      @Sc0pee 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Marr, that's the point. That long single leg should be pointing outwards at the front, since it's capacity is much higher than the other two legs. It prevents the camera from tilting over...

    Tele's cannot use autofocus with lenses that have higher f stops. Why the Tam 150-600mm is not the lens of choice for extending. Additionally, you are limited by your camera body. The Canon 1D X and 5D III can both auto-focus at f/8... but that's it. No other Canon camera can do this. The Tam is already fairly soft anyways. You would be better off using a fast prime lens with that tele. If you purchased a 300mm f2.8 lens, the AF would work. Much better to have a 960mm set up with AF than 1900 without, imo. Finally, not every tele is a good fit for every lens. My 300mm f2.8 AF's with both my 1.4x and my 2X, but no matter what I do, the 2X is soft, while the 1.4X is very sharp.

      200-500 x2 converter with Nikon D500 is an option too.. as the D500 has AF above f8 too

    • @rogerbarnett8412
      @rogerbarnett8412 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a 150-600 g2 and it is decidedly not soft. I've had a 300 2.8 v 1 and 500 f/4.5 (no IS)in the past, and the Tammy compares favorably. But. no AF with extenders. I again got acceptably sharp images this morning of the ~95% waning moon with a Canon 2x III between the Tammy and my 5D IV (MF only of course).... my guess is, cropping the lens only shots will result in similar sharpness and resolution. I'm considering buying a 500 f/4 II, as I'm watching one on ebay. With CC points and ebay bucks. I could get it for close to 6k..a lot better than 10,499 when the lens was introduced!

    600mm with a x2 teleconverter is not even close to 2000mm. Unless you are using a crop sensor as well and adding another multiplier of 1.5 or 1.6.

    • @MyBackyardBirding
      @MyBackyardBirding  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a crop sensor so multiply by 1.6 that's 960mm then by 2. Full frame DSLR's are generally much more expensive than high-end crop sensor cameras of the same make.

    1920mm? Rubbish. The 600mm lens with 2x converter is 1200mm. This is the same whether on a full-frame, or cropped sensor. If you take a photograph of an object at a given distance, the image of that object will be exactly the same size no matter what size sensor you use. Only the surrounding area will be altered, because of the cropping due to a smaller sensor size. If you use a full-size sensor, you can get exactly the same effect as the cropped sensor by cropping in Photoshop!! Don't use bad science!!!!
