Christmas Village Forum IV: How to make trees

- Hello all,
In this upcoming live stream, I will show you how to make a simple tree for your christmas village. The supplies needed for this project are listed below. I have added links below to some of the products if you need help finding them. Also, you can use any greenery you would like, I will be using Woodland Scenics so that is what I put in the list. See you all soon!
Natural Tree branches, hot glue gun, paint brushes, brown craft paint or spray paint, white craft paint, plaster of Paris (optional but encouraged), brown floral tape, Woodland Scenics Lichen, Woodland Scenics clump foliage, Woodland Scenics scenic cement or maximum hold hair spray.

I bought my daughter probably 30 or 40 Lemax houses about 15 years ago they’ve only been set up once or twice. Anyway, she and her husband just bought their first house.
She’s so excited to get them set up. I’m learning so much from you and I’m sending all of your videos to her. She doesn’t live near me and she has an extremely demanding job and won’t give her much time to set up her Christmas town.
I’m learning so much from you, and this video has been so helpful and inspiring. I’ll be trimming twigs in my yard to make some trees for her.
This is 2022 Christmas and I’m really hoping you will be doing more videos this year.

@@MiriamsManner Christmas villages are an addiction and I always find inspiration from them.
I plan on redoing several videos on my channel or a launching of a new one... video quality for older videos imo are low quality and I finally invested in good equipment for recording and editing, as I run a music React channel and the equipment can be used for other channels I run outside these two lol.
I totally get that. Some of my videos were not so great when I first started. I didn’t know how to put them in 1080p. I made a lot of mistakes but I just try to keep learning and getting better. I am not that tech savvy. 😂

I just watched the replay of this video. I have a funny way to use Aqua Net hair spray. I used to use it to spray on bugs or spiders and they freeze in their tracks! It's actually funny to watch! Lol!

I started my 2023 Snowman Village in February and am still working on the wiring of the trees. I am doing a skating pond but haven’t started it yet.

Miriam I’m watching this for the third time 😂. I’m thinking that you could probably lay the branches on a sheet pan in a 200 degree oven for a while. Or if someone has a food dehydrator that would work too. Just thinking out loud.

Miriam, I got a lot of great ideas from your videos which I'll try to incorporate in my village this year. From watching this vid, I bought some boxwood picks from Walmart that makes great treas also I snipped some dried twigs that's looks great just as they are. How can I preserve these. I would rather just spray them with something. What would you recommend? Thank you so much!
Hello, I don’t use any preservatives on my trees. I just pull my branches about a month in advance and completely dry them out before I start to work with them.
I do use “scenic cement” from Woodland Scenics once I make the tree to hold everything in place once done. 😁

I really enjoy your creative ways of making your villages and waterfalls. Have you ever made "Bethlehem" That is something I have always wanted to do, from a beautiful scenery window display, I once saw many years ago in Manhattan. The display was huge and it really had you feeling as if you were there. Would love to see your interpretation of that.

@@MiriamsManner Hi Miriam, sorry I haven't gotten back sooner. I didn't get as much done for my village as I would of liked this year. It's been 8 years since I last put it up. From watching your videos, I so want to add more things. My village came from JoAnn Fabrics and they have since discontinued their series. It's a year later 12/22 and planning for next 2023 build. Re-viewing this video to begin working on trees. Have you made any changes on how you create the trees? And lastly Dewan, how do we make sure no pipe clogging issues occurs in the long run from washing the paint brushes in the sinks?

Hey Michelle,
I have this video, one that shows how I made trees out of floral pics, and the last one I did as a members only with adding your own trunk.
I actually keep my brushes either in plastic bags while using them or in a disposable cup of water.
Once I finish my project, most of the times I clean my brushes outside with the hose. I give them a good spray on the ground with my jet stream attachment.
Wow this is awesome! Did you ever build a fairy tree? So it would be sort of a fairy house tree. Would love to make that! 😍😍
I haven’t done a fairy garden before. They are really cute.

I watched the video for the second time today. I have my trees taped together and am getting ready to put plaster of Paris on them. I didn’t see in this video what you do with the tree once the plaster of Paris dries. Do you then put the litchen on the branches? Being as there is plaster of Paris on the trunk of the tree, do it leave it white? Sorry for all the questions, I want to make sure I am doing it correctly.

IF YOU'RE not using a Styrofoam ;ground' what can you make for a sturdy base for the tree?
I would make a base for the tree out of air drying clay.
Where did you get the large styrofoam sheets? I am having an issue finding them.
They are at Lowe’s or Home Depot. They are the insulation styrofoam.
