So when a shiehk wants to make Dua he will say example ahmed bint Maryam or Muhammad bint amatullah. This is how we address ppl the same way Allah addressed prophet ISA pbuh in the Quran

If your mother science haven't proven it yet, it doesn't make it obsolete. Till last week, scientists were convinced that there are 4 states of matter. Until they found last week(as of news) that there's also exists 5th state of matter in space. So you should not believe in the 5th state as you haven't made any experiment on it in your laboratory. Here, we are seeing them in physical appearance and you are lecturing us that these all are fake. Better to focus on science and religion. Because when in future, more things will be proved, you will curse yourself that I once heard about it but my mother science didn't prove it that time. Or you might not be alive that time.

What a wonderful lecture by Dr. Yasir Qadhi. I have seen both of the parts of the reality of Djinn and by Allah's will I have now come to a decent understanding of the world of Djinn and how Black Magicians are using people's desperation to incur even more harm than good. Now I know I am late to the party and I don't know if anyone have raised this question on his next lectures on this topic or not but I like to address this in this comment. But first let me preface it by saying, I am not trying to refute Dr. Qadhi, rather I'm merely asking to quench my curiosity on what he said about "Djinn cannot give you cancer". I know he meant it in a sarcastic way and this question does sound a bit crazy but still here it goes: As the Ulama deduced from his research and understandings that Djinns are an energy-form entity (I tent to agree with him on this as Djinns were created from fire which is a form of energy but this is not explicitly said in Quran and hadith by his own admission) and have the power of turning matter into energy and vice-versa (inserting the example of the Throne of Sheba here). This was a very intelligent and thorough discussion of sihr and the dark arts. Quran is clear as to its stance on sihr, but there are some of us who even in small degrees engage in these types of activities. This may be because they don't thoroughly understand that what they are doing is haram. I'm happy that Dr. Qadhir in simple language clarifies this in this discussion. May Allah bless him.

Hi Yasir Qadhi, I have no doubt that the story about two angels transformed into humans is indeed in Jewish legend, but it's not in the Bible. As a Christian who grew up in church and had read the full Bible, I had never heard this story before reading the Qur'an.

Black Magic 2:102 In this verse, the two names Harut & Marud are mentioned. Are they? Angels or Human Shaitans, There is disagreement between scholars. Following the word of the two angels (Malakaini), since the words Harud Marooth are used, Some scholars have suggested that the place is supposed to have been called Harut Marod, the angels. According to the meaning that they have given, it is said that two angels named Harud and Marood taught the magic Zihr. How can angels teach witchcraft? Some lecturers have also written a story to explain the question. The angels are envious of the Lord's frequent mention of humanity and express their objection to the Lord and list the sins of men. To which the Lord said, "I have given men a sense of desire. Thus they often make mistakes. Choose two of you. I give them a sense of desire. Let them go to the earth.” Of the angels Harut and Marut were chosen. They both came to earth and committed more sins than men. They were the ones who taught magic. The story goes like this! The above story and the meanings based on this story correct? When we examine that, we can see that the above meaning conflicts with many verses of the Quran. The verse 2:30 says that the Lord declared the creation of human and that the angels said, "Human shall be confounded and shall shed blood." After the Lord has demonstrated the excellence and merit of the Adam "You are pure. We have no knowledge other than what you have taught us. You know yourself; The angels have repented of their mistake by saying, "Wise."2:32 In addition, the angels bowed down to Adam and sought their repentant 2:34 The angels are the ones who have already criticized the merits of man and acknowledged that the criticism was wrong after the Lord explained that it was wrong. How could angels of such nature have once again objected to the Lord? The angels will not disobey Allah. Verse 66: 6 says that they will do what is commanded. The angels bowed respectfully. They will not overtake him. Verses 21: 26,27 say that they will act according to his command. In the above verses the characteristics and nature of the angels are clearly explained. How would angels with such qualities have objected to the Lord's lack of action? They made their point because the Lord had asked their opinion to create man. This is not to say that it is objectionable or preachy. In this story, it is said that the angels have voiced opposition to the Lord has not heard them, and has created man. Such preaching is a change in the nature of angels. Teaching the sorcery Zihr is a denial of Kubr. The angels could never have done such lofty things. If we think of Harut Maruth as angels, then we will have to change the way that we believe angels. Therefore, the meaning of the attributes of the angels must be taken. We have to see if this can be interpreted in a different way without contrary to the attributes of the angels. The two angels are mentioned in this verse. If we say that the two angels are mentioned before or in the preceding verses, the two angels are mentioned in the verse 2:98 as the angel Gabriel Michaeel. The Jews who are against the angels Jibreel and Michael are condemned in this verse. Allah condemns this trend of the Jews and states in the series (verse 2: 102) that the two angels were not enchanted. Allah says this contrary to the Jews who said that the magic came to us through the two angels of Jibreel and Michael. The idea is that Jibreel and Mikayel have nothing to do with the witchcraft. In verse 2:98 it is said that the Jews were enemies to the angels called Jibreel Micahel. This is the explanation. By this, Allah removes the blame attributed by the Jews to the two angels, claiming that the two angels of Jibreel and Mikhail taught the magic. So who are Harut and Maruth? What is the need to mention them here? Questions arise here. This verse starts with saying that they follow what the Shaitans taught. Did the Shaitans teach directly? Or are evil men referred to here as satans? We need to understand this first. Just as the word 'Shaitan' is used for the real Shaitan, it is also used for evil men in verse 2:14, 6: 112, 114: 5,6. The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) mentioned that the one who traveled alone was Shaytan, (Abu Dawood 2240, Tirmidhi 1597) and the poets were Shaytan (Muslim 4548). In this verse we are discussing, Satan is said to have taught witchcraft. Do these Shaitans mean true Shaitans? Or the question of whether it refers to human shaitan . Lord says Harut, Marud, to clear this doubt. That is, Allah shows that the Shaitans who taught the sorcery were bad people named Harud and Marood. In Arabic, there are several meanings of the word, followed by another word. They say this in Arabic Badl. Harut, Marood is the description of the Shaytans (Badl). The Prophet Solomon didn’t teach the Jews the art of witchcraft. Neither are the angels Jibreel and Michael. On the contrary, what we have said so far is that Harut and Marut two human Shaitans taught sihr. Imam Qurtubi, a genius of Tabsir, said, "This is a very good explanation, even if the verse is interpreted differently." Ibn Kasir also took this interpretation of the Qurtubi in his Tafsir. In conclusion Allah clearly mentioned in sura 2:102 وَٱتَّبَعُواْ مَا تَتْلُواْ ٱلشَّيٰطِينُ عَلَىٰ مُلْكِ سُلَيْمٰنَ And they followed what the (Shaitan -devils) had recited during the reign of Sulaiman. وَمَا كَفَرَ سُلَيْمٰنُ Never Sulaiman did disbelieve وَلٰكِنَّ ٱلشَّيٰطِينَ كَفَرُواْ And the devils disbelieved. يُعَلِّمُونَ ٱلنَّاسَ ٱلسِّحْرَ by teaching magic to people. (Note: From here give more attention. They way of black magic teaching method used by devils) وَمَآ اُنۡزِلَ عَلَى الۡمَلَـکَيۡنِ بِبَابِلَ هَارُوۡتَ وَمَارُوۡتَؕ وَمَا يُعَلِّمٰنِ مِنۡ اَحَدٍ حَتّٰى يَقُوۡلَاۤ اِنَّمَا نَحۡنُ فِتۡنَةٌ فَلَا تَكۡفُرۡؕ فَيَتَعَلَّمُوۡنَ مِنۡهُمَا مَا يُفَرِّقُوۡنَ بِهٖ بَيۡنَ الۡمَرۡءِ وَ زَوۡجِهٖ ؕ وَمَا هُمۡ بِضَآرِّيۡنَ بِهٖ مِنۡ اَحَدٍ اِلَّا بِاِذۡنِ اللّٰهِ ؕ وَيَتَعَلَّمُوۡنَ مَا يَضُرُّهُمۡ وَلَا يَنۡفَعُهُمۡؕ وَلَقَدۡ عَلِمُوۡا لَمَنِ اشۡتَرٰٮهُ مَا لَهٗ فِى الۡاٰخِرَةِ مِنۡ خَلَاقٍ ؕ وَلَبِئۡسَ مَا شَرَوۡا بِهٖۤ اَنۡفُسَهُمۡؕ لَوۡ کَانُوۡا يَعۡلَمُوۡنَ ﴿۱۰۲﴾ and that which was revealed to the two angels at Babylon, Harut and Marut. But the two angels do not teach anyone unless they say, "We are a trial, so do not disbelieve And they learn from them that by which they cause separation between a man and his wife. But they do not harm anyone through it except by permission of Allah. And the people learn what harms them and does not benefit them. whoever purchased the magic would not have in the Hereafter any share. And wretched is that for which they sold themselves, if they only knew. [Al Qur'an 2:102] To the safest side 1. we have to believe what Allah says. 2. From Quran Allah says Shaitan was teaching Black magic to people. 3. Angels never bring black magic to Haruth & Maruth 4. Angels never disobey Allah 5. Allah never send black magic to Haruth Maruth through Jibreel or Mikaeel. 6. If you believe those haruth maruth are angels then you have to believe against what Allah said in verse 1:102 (shaitans had teach black magic to people). 7. Therefore we have to understand this verse 2:102 without any contradiction to Quran and sunnah. Do not rely on Israyilliyath stories. Even if our interpretation is wrong Allah is merciful he will forgive us. But if you disbelieve by saying against teaching of Quran and sunnah you will be in trouble. Please weigh which stands is more safe for your belief. Allah knows best and I seek forgiveness if I am wrong.

DragonSlayerzz Surely. My comment was directed at YasirQ, not you or anyone else in the comments. I watch his historical Islam lectures like the ones on the Battle of Karbala or the Muslim World in 1914 because he's western educated, speaks English well, and obviously has an Islamic point of view. None of the Muslims I have known have ever talked about Sihr in any way. I mentioned this lecture to one and asked if the topic ever came up at Friday prayers. He said no but entirely depends on the Imam. He is of Egyptian decent so perhaps this is a bigger issue on the subcontinent. Regardless, I highly doubt that sorcery and witchcraft is a big part of the average Muslim's daily life in this day and age. At least not in the West. On the contrary it seems a very insignificant part of the religion and increasingly so and therefore there could have been better topics for the lecturer's time.

Is there any hadith that mentions about magic that can cause physical pain or illness? The hadith on Prophet (SAWS) getting affected by magic refers only to magic causing confusion in the mind.
He's very knowledgeable. I don't subscribe to Islam, however. Choose your own path. These entities are very proud and more clever than perhaps the ones the doctor has encountered. Because they do the same tricks over and over, year in and year out, it may give the impression of a lack of intelligence. Repetition is a part of brainwashing and conditioning as well. Its is a mistake to think jinn does not have aqal. Shaytan was knowledgeable that is why he was amongst the angels. Jinns don't have ability of wahi. That is more powerful than aqal, the qalb not the mind. Iblees aquired knowledge but Allah gave knowledge to Adam peace be upon him.

I heard him say the magicians in the time of Musa (peace be upon him) did sihr to trick people's eyes so they saw the ropes moving. Then later he said street magic isn't haram. That's a contradiction. I will go with the scholars who classify all magic as forbidden.
You completely misunderstood. The magician in the time of moussa were using real magic against the eyes of the people while magicians of nowadays use only a couple of rubbish tricks.
Bismillah-Hir-Rahman-Nir-Raheem Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh The Jinn Prepare now to undertake a journey upon the wings of scientific vision into the ancient past to explore the nature and identity of the jinn. The Quranic concept of jinn has been briefly discussed before in Life in the Perspective of Quranic Revelations. Arabic lexicon mentions the following as the possible meanings of the word jinn. It literally means anything which has the connotation of concealment, invisibility, seclusion and remoteness. It also has the connotation of thick shades and dark shadows. That is why the word ‘jannah’ (from the same root word) is employed by the Quran to denote the paradise, which would be full of thick, heavily shaded gardens. The word jinn is also applicable to snakes which habitually remain hidden from common view and live a life secluded from other animals in the rock crevices and earthen holes. It is also applied to women who observe segregation and to such chieftains as keep their distance from the common people. The inhabitants of remote, inaccessible mountains are likewise referred to as jinn. Hence, anything which lies beyond the reach of common sight or is invisible to the unaided naked eye, could well be described by this word. This proposition is fully endorsed by a tradition of the Holy Prophet SAW in which he strongly admonishes people not to use dried up lumps of dung or bones of dead animals for cleaning themselves after attending to the call of nature because they are food for the jinn. As we use toilet paper now, at that time people used lumps of earth, stones or any dry article close at hand to clean themselves. We can safely infer therefore, that what he referred to as jinn was nothing other than some invisible organisms, which feed on rotting bones, dung etc. Remember that the concept of bacteria and viruses was not till then born. No man had even the vaguest idea about the existence of such invisible tiny creatures. Amazingly it is to these that the Holy Prophet PBUH referred. The Arabic language could offer him no better, more appropriate expression than the word jinn. Another important observation made by the Quran is in relation to the creation of the jinn. They are described as having been born out of blasts of fire (from the cosmos). Al-Hijr Chapter 15 : Verse 28 And the Jinn We created before that (the creation of man) from blasts of fire (naris-samum).1 Here the adjective used to describe the nature of the particular fire from which the jinn were created is Samum, which means a blazing fire or a blast that has no smoke.2 We find a similar statement in another Quranic verse Al-Rahman Chapter 55 : Verse 16 And the Jinn He created from the flame of fire.3 Having established that the word jinn applies here to some type of bacterial organisms, let us again turn our attention to the verses quoted above that speak of the jinn as having been created out of fire. The prime candidates for the application of these verses seem to be such minute organisms as drew the energy for their existence directly from hot blazes of lightning-Samum- and cosmic radiation. Dickerson inadvertently agrees with the Quranic view he observes that the most ancient organisms:- ‘…would have lived on the energy of lightning and ultraviolet radiation…’4 This scenario of cosmic radiation is not specifically mentioned in the work of other scientists in their search for the pre-biotic organisms. But they too have corroborated the idea that whatever organisms existed before biotic evolution must have drawn their energy directly from heat. Of all the categories of bacteria classified as the most ancient only ‘prokaryotes’ and ‘eukaryotes’ were mentioned by previous generations of scientists. However, that conclusion proved to be a hastily drawn one, according to Karl R. Wœse and his colleagues. They observed: ‘Simply because there are two types of cell at the microscopic level’ it does not follow that there must be only two types at the molecular level.’5 For the benefit of the lay reader the difference between the two bacteria, known as the prokaryotes and eukaryotes, is explained in terms as simple as possible. It relates to the presence or absence of a nucleus in them. The prokaryote type of bacteria, despite having a well-defined cell membrane, have no distinct nucleus. The eukaryotes on the other hand, possess well-defined and well-developed nuclei occupying the center of each cell. It was considered that these were the only two ancient forms of bacteria which gave birth to others and evolved into organisms which could be referred to as the ancestors of life. However, Wœse published the findings of his pioneer research in Scientific American, June 1981, claiming that archaebacteria, could be rightly considered as the earliest form of organisms. He and his colleagues informed the scientific community that they were a third distinct line which preceded all others. Thus it is they who should be entitled as the most ancient ancestors of life. Wœse and his collaborators continued to pour strong evidence into this discovery and as the ice began to thaw, according to Wœse: ‘Although a few biologists still dispute our interpretation, the idea that archaebacteria represent a separate grouping at the highest level is becoming generally accepted.’6 Again he writes: ‘This implies that the methanogens are as old as or older than any other bacterial group.’6 According to The Hutchinson Dictionary of Science: ‘…the archaebacteria are related to the earliest life forms, which appeared about 4 billion years ago, when there was little oxygen in the Earth’s atmosphere.’7 But the author of Genetics a Molecular Approach states: Since 1977 more and more differences between archaebacteria and otherprokaryotes have been found, so much so that microbiologist now favour the term archaea, to emphasize that these organisms are distinct from bacteria.’8 THE ORGANISMS REFERRED TO AS JINN in the Quran seem to fit the above description. But, though scientists unanimously describe these bacteria as possessing the potential of drawing their energy from heat, they are not mentioned as having been originally created directly by the cosmic rays and blasts of lightning by any scientist other than Dickerson. ‘The rest however, continue to throw more light on their various modes of dependence on heat for their survival: “… in undersea vents, hot springs the Dead Sea, and salt pans, and have even adapted to refuse tips.’9 On the issue of antiquity though, Wœse and his colleagues have no doubt that the archaebacteria are the prime claimants. According to some scientists they may have evolved from some unknown parenthood simultaneously. But these are issues which fall outside the domain of this exercise. Whether the other bacteria evolved out of them or not is irrelevant to the discussion. The relevant point is that all forms of most ancient bacteria draw their energy directly from heat. This is a tribute of no small magnitude to the Quranic declaration made over fourteen hundred years ago: Al-Hijr Chapter 15 : Verse 28 And the Jinn We created before that (the creation of man) from blasts of fire (naris-samum).10 According to the accepted scientific studies, direct heat from fire had to play a vital role in the creation and maintenance of pre-biotic organisms. This, in fact was the only mode of transfer of energy for the consumption of organized forms of existence during this era. As they multiplied during their uninterrupted proliferation lasting over billions of years, their death must have polluted the oceans while they decayed and fermented turning the oceans into the primordial soup. I need to take him to a legitimate raki. He is in the subcontinent and has anger burts, depression, stays awake the whole night, sleeps during the day. What a wonderful lecture by Dr. Yasir Qadhi. I have seen both of the parts of the reality of Djinn and by Allah's will I have now come to a decent understanding of the world of Djinn and how Black Magicians are using people's desperation to incur even more harm than good. Now I know I am late to the party and I don't know if anyone have raised this question on his next lectures on this topic or not but I like to address this in this comment. But first let me preface it by saying, I am not trying to refute Dr. Qadhi, rather I'm merely asking to quench my curiosity on what he said about "Djinn cannot give you cancer". I know he meant it in a sarcastic way and this question does sound a bit crazy but still here it goes:
As the Ulama deduced from his research and understandings that Djinns are an energy-form entity (I tent to agree with him on this as Djinns were created from fire which is a form of energy but this is not explicitly said in Quran and hadith by his own admission) and have the power of turning matter into energy and vice-versa (inserting the example of the Throne of Sheba here). Quran is clear as to its stance on sihr, but there are some of us who even in small degrees engage in these types of activities. I have no doubt that the story about two angels transformed into humans is indeed in Jewish legend, but it's not in the Bible. As a Christian who grew up in church and had read the full Bible, I had never heard this story before reading the Qur'an.

2:102 In this verse, the two names Harut & Marud are mentioned. Are they? Angels or Human Shaitans, There is disagreement between scholars.
Following the word of the two angels (Malakaini), since the words Harud Marooth are used, Some scholars have suggested that the place is supposed to have been called Harut Marod, the angels.
According to the meaning that they have given, it is said that two angels named Harud and Marood taught the magic Zihr.
How can angels teach witchcraft? Some lecturers have also written a story to explain the question.
The angels are envious of the Lord's frequent mention of humanity and express their objection to the Lord and list the sins of men. To which the Lord said, "I have given men a sense of desire. Thus they often make mistakes. Choose two of you. I give them a sense of desire. Let them go to the earth.” Of the angels Harut and Marut were chosen. They both came to earth and committed more sins than men. They were the ones who taught magic. The story goes like this!
The above story and the meanings based on this story correct?
When we examine that, we can see that the above meaning conflicts with many verses of the Quran.
The verse 2:30 says that the Lord declared the creation of human and that the angels said, "Human shall be confounded and shall shed blood."
After the Lord has demonstrated the excellence and merit of the Adam "You are pure. We have no knowledge other than what you have taught us. You know yourself; The angels have repented of their mistake by saying, "Wise."2:32
In addition, the angels bowed down to Adam and sought their repentant 2:34
The angels are the ones who have already criticized the merits of man and acknowledged that the criticism was wrong after the Lord explained that it was wrong.
How could angels of such nature have once again objected to the Lord?
The angels will not disobey Allah. Verse 66: 6 says that they will do what is commanded.
The angels bowed respectfully. They will not overtake him. Verses 21: 26,27 say that they will act according to his command.
In the above verses the characteristics and nature of the angels are clearly explained. How would angels with such qualities have objected to the Lord's lack of action?
They made their point because the Lord had asked their opinion to create man. This is not to say that it is objectionable or preachy.
In this story, it is said that the angels have voiced opposition to the Lord has not heard them, and has created man.
Such preaching is a change in the nature of angels.
Teaching the sorcery Zihr is a denial of Kubr. The angels could never have done such lofty things.
If we think of Harut Maruth as angels, then we will have to change the way that we believe angels. Therefore, the meaning of the attributes of the angels must be taken.
We have to see if this can be interpreted in a different way without contrary to the attributes of the angels.
The two angels are mentioned in this verse. If we say that the two angels are mentioned before or in the preceding verses, the two angels are mentioned in the verse 2:98 as the angel Gabriel Michaeel.
The Jews who are against the angels Jibreel and Michael are condemned in this verse.
Allah condemns this trend of the Jews and states in the series (verse 2: 102) that the two angels were not enchanted. Allah says this contrary to the Jews who said that the magic came to us through the two angels of Jibreel and Michael.
The idea is that Jibreel and Mikayel have nothing to do with the witchcraft.
In verse 2:98 it is said that the Jews were enemies to the angels called Jibreel Micahel. This is the explanation. By this, Allah removes the blame attributed by the Jews to the two angels, claiming that the two angels of Jibreel and Mikhail taught the magic.
So who are Harut and Maruth? What is the need to mention them here? Questions arise here.
This verse starts with saying that they follow what the Shaitans taught.
Did the Shaitans teach directly? Or are evil men referred to here as satans?
We need to understand this first.
Just as the word 'Shaitan' is used for the real Shaitan, it is also used for evil men in verse 2:14, 6: 112, 114: 5,6.
The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) mentioned that the one who traveled alone was Shaytan, (Abu Dawood 2240, Tirmidhi 1597) and the poets were Shaytan (Muslim 4548).
In this verse we are discussing, Satan is said to have taught witchcraft. Do these Shaitans mean true Shaitans? Or the question of whether it refers to human shaitan . Lord says Harut, Marud, to clear this doubt.
That is, Allah shows that the Shaitans who taught the sorcery were bad people named Harud and Marood.
In Arabic, there are several meanings of the word, followed by another word. They say this in Arabic Badl. Harut, Marood is the description of the Shaytans (Badl).
The Prophet Solomon didn’t teach the Jews the art of witchcraft. Neither are the angels Jibreel and Michael. On the contrary, what we have said so far is that Harut and Marut two human Shaitans taught sihr.
Imam Qurtubi, a genius of Tabsir, said, "This is a very good explanation, even if the verse is interpreted differently."
Ibn Kasir also took this interpretation of the Qurtubi in his Tafsir.
In conclusion
Allah clearly mentioned in sura 2:102
وَٱتَّبَعُواْ مَا تَتْلُواْ ٱلشَّيٰطِينُ عَلَىٰ مُلْكِ سُلَيْمٰنَ
And they followed what the (Shaitan -devils) had recited during the reign of Sulaiman.
وَمَا كَفَرَ سُلَيْمٰنُ
Never Sulaiman did disbelieve
وَلٰكِنَّ ٱلشَّيٰطِينَ كَفَرُواْ
And the devils disbelieved.
يُعَلِّمُونَ ٱلنَّاسَ ٱلسِّحْرَ
by teaching magic to people.

and that which was revealed to the two angels at Babylon, Harut and Marut. But the two angels do not teach anyone unless they say, "We are a trial, so do not disbelieve And they learn from them that by which they cause separation between a man and his wife. But they do not harm anyone through it except by permission of Allah. And the people learn what harms them and does not benefit them.
whoever purchased the magic would not have in the Hereafter any share. And wretched is that for which they sold themselves, if they only knew.

To the safest side
1. we have to believe what Allah says.
2. From Quran Allah says Shaitan was teaching Black magic to people.
3. Angels never bring black magic to Haruth & Maruth
4. Angels never disobey Allah
5. Allah never send black magic to Haruth Maruth through Jibreel or Mikaeel.
6. If you believe those haruth maruth are angels then you have to believe against what Allah said in verse 1:102 (shaitans had teach black magic to people).
7. Therefore we have to understand this verse 2:102 without any contradiction to Quran and sunnah. Do not rely on Israyilliyath stories.
Even if our interpretation is wrong Allah is merciful he will forgive us. But if you disbelieve by saying against teaching of Quran and sunnah you will be in trouble. Please weigh which stands is more safe for your belief.

DragonSlayerzz Surely. My comment was directed at YasirQ, not you or anyone else in the comments. I watch his historical Islam lectures like the ones on the Battle of Karbala or the Muslim World in 1914 because he's western educated, speaks English well, and obviously has an Islamic point of view. None of the Muslims I have known have ever talked about Sihr in any way. I mentioned this lecture to one and asked if the topic ever came up at Friday prayers. He said no but entirely depends on the Imam. He is of Egyptian decent so perhaps this is a bigger issue on the subcontinent. Regardless, I highly doubt that sorcery and witchcraft is a big part of the average Muslim's daily life in this day and age. At least not in the West. On the contrary it seems a very insignificant part of the religion and increasingly so and therefore there could have been better topics for the lecturer's time.

Is there any hadith that mentions about magic that can cause physical pain or illness? The hadith on Prophet (SAWS) getting affected by magic refers only to magic causing confusion in the mind.
He's very knowledgeable. I don't subscribe to Islam, however. Choose your own path. These entities are very proud and more clever than perhaps the ones the doctor has encountered. Because they do the same tricks over and over, year in and year out, it may give the impression of a lack of intelligence. Repetition is a part of brainwashing and conditioning as well. He might be right, maybe some are forced to do these things at times. I pray for them now. I'm amazed at what they can do. Knowing your thoughts will always give them the upper hand. Peace and light.
Its is a mistake to think jinn does not have aqal. Shaytan was knowledgeable that is why he was amongst the angels. Jinns don't have ability of wahi. That is more powerful than aqal, the qalb not the mind. Iblees aquired knowledge but Allah gave knowledge to Adam peace be upon him.

I heard him say the magicians in the time of Musa (peace be upon him) did sihr to trick people's eyes so they saw the ropes moving. Then later he said street magic isn't haram. That's a contradiction. I will go with the scholars who classify all magic as forbidden.
You completely misunderstood. The magician in the time of moussa were using real magic against the eyes of the people while magicians of nowadays use only a couple of rubbish tricks.
Street magic doesnt use the help of Satan or iblis..and its not magic its just tricks..

The Jinn
Prepare now to undertake a journey upon the wings of scientific vision into the ancient past to explore the nature and identity of the jinn. The Quranic concept of jinn has been briefly discussed before in Life in the Perspective of Quranic Revelations. Arabic lexicon mentions the following as the possible meanings of the word jinn. It literally means anything which has the connotation of concealment, invisibility, seclusion and remoteness. It also has the connotation of thick shades and dark shadows. That is why the word ‘jannah’ (from the same root word) is employed by the Quran to denote the paradise, which would be full of thick, heavily shaded gardens. The word jinn is also applicable to snakes which habitually remain hidden from common view and live a life secluded from other animals in the rock crevices and earthen holes. It is also applied to women who observe segregation and to such chieftains as keep their distance from the common people. The inhabitants of remote, inaccessible mountains are likewise referred to as jinn. Hence, anything which lies beyond the reach of common sight or is invisible to the unaided naked eye, could well be described by this word.
This proposition is fully endorsed by a tradition of the Holy Prophet SAW in which he strongly admonishes people not to use dried up lumps of dung or bones of dead animals for cleaning themselves after attending to the call of nature because they are food for the jinn. As we use toilet paper now, at that time people used lumps of earth, stones or any dry article close at hand to clean themselves. We can safely infer therefore, that what he referred to as jinn was nothing other than some invisible organisms, which feed on rotting bones, dung etc. Remember that the concept of bacteria and viruses was not till then born. No man had even the vaguest idea about the existence of such invisible tiny creatures. Amazingly it is to these that the Holy Prophet PBUH referred. The Arabic language could offer him no better, more appropriate expression than the word jinn.
Another important observation made by the Quran is in relation to the creation of the jinn. They are described as having been born out of blasts of fire (from the cosmos).
Al-Hijr Chapter 15 : Verse 28
And the Jinn We created before that (the creation of man) from blasts of fire (naris-samum).1
Here the adjective used to describe the nature of the particular fire from which the jinn were created is Samum, which means a blazing fire or a blast that has no smoke.2 We find a similar statement in another Quranic verse
Al-Rahman Chapter 55 : Verse 16
And the Jinn He created from the flame of fire.3
Having established that the word jinn applies here to some type of bacterial organisms, let us again turn our attention to the verses quoted above that speak of the jinn as having been created out of fire. The prime candidates for the application of these verses seem to be such minute organisms as drew the energy for their existence directly from hot blazes of lightning-Samum- and cosmic radiation.
Dickerson inadvertently agrees with the Quranic view he observes that the most ancient organisms:- ‘…would have lived on the energy of lightning and ultraviolet radiation…’4
This scenario of cosmic radiation is not specifically mentioned in the work of other scientists in their search for the pre-biotic organisms. But they too have corroborated the idea that whatever organisms existed before biotic evolution must have drawn their energy directly from heat. Of all the categories of bacteria classified as the most ancient only ‘prokaryotes’ and ‘eukaryotes’ were mentioned by previous generations of scientists. However, that conclusion proved to be a hastily drawn one, according to Karl R. Wœse and his colleagues. They observed: ‘Simply because there are two types of cell at the microscopic level’ it does not follow that there must be only two types at the molecular level.’5
For the benefit of the lay reader the difference between the two bacteria, known as the prokaryotes and eukaryotes, is explained in terms as simple as possible. It relates to the presence or absence of a nucleus in them. The prokaryote type of bacteria, despite having a well-defined cell membrane, have no distinct nucleus. The eukaryotes on the other hand, possess well-defined and well-developed nuclei occupying the center of each cell.
It was considered that these were the only two ancient forms of bacteria which gave birth to others and evolved into organisms which could be referred to as the ancestors of life. However, Wœse published the findings of his pioneer research in Scientific American, June 1981, claiming that archaebacteria, could be rightly considered as the earliest form of organisms. He and his colleagues informed the scientific community that they were a third distinct line which preceded all others. Thus it is they who should be entitled as the most ancient ancestors of life. Wœse and his collaborators continued to pour strong evidence into this discovery and as the ice began to thaw, according to Wœse: ‘Although a few biologists still dispute our interpretation, the idea that archaebacteria represent a separate grouping at the highest level is becoming generally accepted.’6
Again he writes: ‘This implies that the methanogens are as old as or older than any other bacterial group.’6
According to The Hutchinson Dictionary of Science:
‘…the archaebacteria are related to the earliest life forms, which appeared about 4 billion years ago, when there was little oxygen in the Earth’s atmosphere.’7
But the author of Genetics a Molecular Approach states: Since 1977 more and more differences between archaebacteria and otherprokaryotes have been found, so much so that microbiologist now favour the term archaea, to emphasize that these organisms are distinct from bacteria.’8
THE ORGANISMS REFERRED TO AS JINN in the Quran seem to fit the above description. But, though scientists unanimously describe these bacteria as possessing the potential of drawing their energy from heat, they are not mentioned as having been originally created directly by the cosmic rays and blasts of lightning by any scientist other than Dickerson. ‘The rest however, continue to throw more light on their various modes of dependence on heat for their survival: “… in undersea vents, hot springs the Dead Sea, and salt pans, and have even adapted to refuse tips.’9
On the issue of antiquity though, Wœse and his colleagues have no doubt that the archaebacteria are the prime claimants. According to some scientists they may have evolved from some unknown parenthood simultaneously.
But these are issues which fall outside the domain of this exercise. Whether the other bacteria evolved out of them or not is irrelevant to the discussion. The relevant point is that all forms of most ancient bacteria draw their energy directly from heat. This is a tribute of no small magnitude to the Quranic declaration made over fourteen hundred years ago:
Al-Hijr Chapter 15 : Verse 28
And the Jinn We created before that (the creation of man) from blasts of fire (naris-samum).10
According to the accepted scientific studies, direct heat from fire had to play a vital role in the creation and maintenance of pre-biotic organisms. This, in fact was the only mode of transfer of energy for the consumption of organized forms of existence during this era. As they multiplied during their uninterrupted proliferation lasting over billions of years, their death must have polluted the oceans while they decayed and fermented turning the oceans into the primordial soup. This will be discussed at greater length in the following chapter.

Dear Sir, I listened to the lecture with much interest and I am much better equipped to handle these issues. I have a family member , who I believe is effected because of sihar. I need to take him to a legitimate raki. He is in the subcontinent and has anger burts, depression, stays awake the whole night, sleeps during the day. Is not around when there is athan or quran recited. Wants to read namaza but can never read 5 times prayer daily. He is a changed man for the last 14 years. We need to know a specialist raki. The next step is to have an organisation certify authentic raki's all over the world and this information should be accessible to the whole world. We need someone like you to certify authentic raki's in every country that we can approach for help, when needed. Please think about this.
